Mine are P Jayachandran, MV, TMS, SPB in that order among male singers. Female singers: The one and only SP Sailaja, S Janaki, Madhuri ( Mallu singer) and Jency. I like IR singing the songs that should be sung only by him. He is like part of our landscape, but as a singer of great songs I would prefer only PJ or MV to be there.
My favorite PJ song is Nenjil Ulla Kaayam in Rishimoolam. Vaidehi Kathirunthal songs, Andha 7 Natkal songs Kavithai Arangerum neram, etc.
SPSailaja songs are many. I don't know why IR stopped using this gifted singer. My favorite is Pesu Yen anbe in vidiyum varai kaathiru (Rex's site! I cry when i hear this song) Then, of course in Dharmayudham that famous aDA poYA, poya Ulagam podi dappa...

I like SPB Charan, Yugendran and Sandhya. :-))
Aruvi - comments please. :-))
Seriously, I would prefer the exact opposite of RajaFan's preference, i.e.
SPB, TMS, MV.
But JC probably won't feature here.
Female singers? Many now. From Sujatha to Swarnalatha.
S. Janaki is the best of course.
As my dear friend Aravind would say, the Mummoorthigal of TFM are IR, SPB and SJ.

To be fair to RajaFan
I love SPBala for his versatality, his ability in bringing out the song's emotions, his "sweet" voice, his flair in singing style, the feelings he brings out in singing .... innum solli kondei poagalaam.
S. Janaki - from Singaara velanei devaa to nenjiniley is simply marvelous.

And visu? Who's he? But honestly, unkala ICE panna, I tried so hard to write it well in the miniscule amount of tamil I know. Too bad you couldn't understand it? I suppose it's like reading one of IR's interviews:-))(That's one thing that I have come to face facts about. I still can't understand his appalam, vada stories!)
Raaja's information was from sources...
But Rajafan..I am sorry for my digressions. I hadn't seen Karthi's postings for so long that I couldn't resist making that crack, considering how much we argued over PS and KSC. But I am really sorry and this will end right here.
(I hope)

Ok my turn
There are three singers in TFM that I love solo or combinations. They are KJY, SPB AND KSC. Why?
KJY-I love the carnatic richness in his voice. His sad songs are haunting and so are his carnatic based songs. Although I sometimes find it hard to hear the emotions in his renderings, for example, the "kanavu kaanum vazhkai" song, although it is one of my favorite, he's emotions don't seem to come out well, unlike "vaazhvae maayam". But hearing him recite a manthra in the morning or something like that and I feel as though I am in a separate world. Songs like 'kannae kalaimaanea' are great gems of his.
SPB-All right! In my Opinion, he's the best TFM ever got and will get. He can sing any song with absolute comfort and great modulations that it makes me wonder how he does it. Unlike KJY, he's voice is sweet. KJY's is rich but not honey sweet. SPB's is. And he can liven up the song without seeming to force it out. There are way too many songs of his that I love but golden gems such as 'vaan nila nila alla' and 'vannam konda vennilavea' are a couple of my favorites.
KSC-Well this is a special case. I know that many in this forum would choose PS or SJ but to me KSC is the best. Although I have to say that SJ beats anyone in the versatility category. But I love KSC's voice. It's the only reason why I got into tamil music. And why I went back to tamil film songs of the 80's when my friends were into Backstreet Boys and Mariah and stuff like that. Her voice is truly great and to beat it off, she has got a great singing ability too and I think that she keeps getting better and better. REFERENCE:ESK songs. Ninaithen Vandhai.

Okay Aruvi - we'll call a truce.
Anyway since you and I seem to agree - to a certain extent - on SPB and SJ, I suppose we must belong to the same generation. :-))
But enakkannavoa, SPBC & Y & S seem to have somethings extra. :-)))

Okay since Kolluthaatha bb is here, it makes this discussion complete.
Reading between the lines, I take it PUC is bb's all-time favourite singer.

Appavey sonnein illaiyaa. Probably the SPB he is refering to is some S. Paartha Bharathi or some people we (Aruvi & I) haven't heard before.
Forget about not having heard the song, I don't even know the meaning. And I am scared to ask.
Probably bb belongs to the golden age of Cherans & Cholas. :-)
On topic:
To list my favourite SPB & SJ songs would be a herculean task. I'd probably need to begin a separet home page. But that's how much I love them.

Guys and gals - Please forgive us, if you think that our line of postings are major digressions.
Maybe it's a demo on how we can enjoy ourselves in this forum, without insulting each other.
Well insults of a different kind at least. :-)))
Kolluthaaththa - Sirghazi is your favourite singer. I felt a chill in my spine. I love many of his songs, but best singer?

If we were to list all the singers we like, each one would probably have a tremendous list.
I would have one from SP Bala to Sreeni, whilst you may have one from PUC to Ghandasala to what not.
I think what RajaFan wants from each of us is one favourite male singer and one favourite female singer.
You have already chosen PUC. So no going back on that. Who is your favourite female singer?
MSS or is it someone we haven't heard of before? :-))
