guys,
I think there are a lot of beautiful gems of IR that has been totally forgotten...
one of those songs which falls in that category is "Arumbum Thalire" from the movie nambirajanin chandralekha....
others include :
viralil suthi meethava - nanthavana theru
un munnai naanum - nanthavana theru
ponmane theduthe (sung by kamal) - movie i dont know..
and lots more... maybe everybody can contribute to refresh and rediscover the lost gems!!!!

Doorathil naan kanda un mugam is one such song. Its very well sung by SJ.
One point, whenever I hear the starting of the song my mind goes to another Gem BhoopaaLam isaikkum poomagaL oorvalam from Thooral Ninnu Pochu. I think both are based on same raaga. Pundits please clarify.

Kupps,
Doorathil Nan Kanda Unmugam is from Nizhalgal - this song was not in the movie. This is set to Dharmavati. Unlike you said, I found a strong resemblence of this song with Kanna Varuvaya Meera KetkiraL (Manadhail Urudhi VEndum).

oh! is it Dharmavathi...thanks venkatesh for clarification.
then based on which raaga the song bhoopaaLam isaikkum poomagaLoorvalam is tuned??
i'm classical music illiterate why i said the starting music of dhoorathil takes me to bhoopaLam is whenever i hear the short sitar/veena(?) piece in the starting music of dhoorathil i tend to hum as thandhannathana...thandhanathana of bhoopaLam without a feel of change.
anyway thanks for clarifying my doubt..

Kupps,
Doorathil and Kanna Varuvaya also has shades of Gowrimanohari.

Kupps, "bhoopALam isaikkum" uses both Dha's in the charaNam and therefore is a mix of Gowri manOhari and Keeravani. G3 also comes in once in the charaNam.

Bharahtiraja wasted two great songs; doorathil and "putham puthu kalai"-alaigal oivathillai.
Doorathil was ofcourse a bighit in AP, for a movie called "sithara".It goes like "vennelo gothari antham".
Songs from "aradhanai"- "Ilam pani thulir vidum neram"; the singer was a new face Radhika.Listen to it in swara.com
One more song in gramathu athiyayam-'Poove idhu poojai kalame"
"Idho idho en nenjile "- vatathukkul sathuram
"Oru naal unnodu oru naal"- uravadum nenjam
"Kannan Naalum padum"-Ilamai kolam and many more

There is yet another Gem I can remember. It is from 'Naadodi Thendral', Song 'Oru kanam oru yugamaaga yen thondra vendumo'. This song is one of my all time favourites.

'Unnai Ethirparthen' from 'Vanaja Girija' is easily one among the top 5 songs of the last decade, and one of the greatest in the IR-SPB combo. Thenali's 'Swaasame' has something minutely similar to this song, I'm not able to place my finger on the similarity...

Just bad time for IR.
The film Kattu marak kaaran " has excellent songs.
Esp "Kaththum Kadal..."
"Chinna Poove"
"Akkaraiella Seemaiyele.."
When there is a "Puyal", the sweetness of thendral gets lost.

Sridhar, raj
u both missed the superb SPB song VetRi vetRi from KattuMarakkaaran.,
IMO, This is one of IR's best albums with good melodic numbers - P. Vasu didn't do any justice to these songs in picturisation - no need to mention the fate of the film.,
BTW, Deva did BGM for this movie and his name appears in the title too !

trend,
i think you should avoid these smart-alec comments-you can do it sometime.but not always.this is the nth time you are doing this.it is esp annoying when you do it in a thread where IR's fans are seriously discussing something what they hold is precious.you want list of overrecognised gems of ARR? now, that will be a long list...

s,
Digression:
"smart-alec comments"
The comment I made was stupid.I really don't understand why you consider it as smart.
"it is esp annoying"
Why is it annoying?I just expected a "No" or "Yes" for an answer. If it is annoying that means you are giving wings to my posting thereby creating unexpected insinuations. If you want to bash me there's an email address.Don't worry I'll take it in good spirit.:)

How about the melodious duet "Geetha Sangeetha" from the movie "Anbe Sangeetha" ? It is relatively unknown compared to the much-appeciated "Chinna Pura ondru" from the same movie.
