barring all barriers, there is an universal report that BABA IS A FLOP. not just from laymen, even his ardent fans are absolutely unhappy with the film. spiritual leaders and severe religious people are angry with rajini. For people who beleived that rehmanis going to be the sving grace, he was the greatest disappointment. There is no commitment or seriousness in his music. Pls read reviews in Anandha vikatan and Kumudham. Nice to know that the press is bold to express their views. Anyway for the sake of clippings, movie rights and votes SUN TV will place it at no 1 in all countdowns for the next one year. But what we want to know as ardent rajini fans is : RAJINI SIR, ARE YOU REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF THE MOVIE? DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS WHAT IS COMING OR YOU ALSO FEEL BETRAYED AND CHEATED?

SHIVA, sorry to disappoint you.
Baba is the biggest hit of the year even before release as the first 3 weeks bookings are full in most centers.
Baba: Tickets and Theatres
Not only was the audiocassette marketing strategy different for Baba but the selling of tickets too - with the new reservation system. Rajinikanth seems to have made his profit even before the release of the film. The expected return on investment that Rajinikanth is expecting is quite high, 120-crores as against his minimal investment for the movie. With the release of Baba on the Independence Day the movie is already booked for three weeks to follow in all the theatres where it will be released. The tickets for the movie sold out in less than two hours in all the theatres after the commencement of the sale. The price of movie tickets started from Rs.75 and soared as high as Rs.150. The movie is screened in 170 theatres all over Tamil Nadu and in Andhra Pradesh the dubbed version of Baba will be screened in 120 theatres. The theatres in which the movie will be releasing in Chennai are Sathyam, Albert, Abhirahmi, Udhayam, Mini Udhayam, Maharani, Sri Brindha, Prarthana and Rohini. The Udhayam Complex and Rohini Complex will screen the movie Baba alone in all their theatres for the first week.

Interview
Suresh Krissna
The “Baasha” of Box-Office.
By Moviebuzz
Suresh Krissna is the king of formula films forever playing his fantasies on screen right from his Satya days. He makes the kind of films for the masses like- big budget, big stars, fast and racy with all the grinds and groans. Suresh Krissna is the man who re-invented Rajnikanth as a mass hero with Annamalai, Veera and that commercial cult classic Baasha. His films might be loud and crude for the critics, but they contain the raw stuff of life, stylishly shot and told in a fairytale way. What gives Suresh Krissna this Midas touch is his ability to conceive a larger than life image, a superhero of the times. Nearly six years after Baasha, Krissna and Rajnikanth have come together in Baba, the most talked about film in recent times. The film has also raised great expectation in the trade. The media shy director, who is extremely soft-spoken, speaks about Baba. Excerpts:
Q: You must be a relaxed man after the release of Baba?
A: I am cool and relaxed, after the hectic four-month shoot and post-production work. The film as you will see, has shaped out well and all of us are extremely happy about the product.
Q: How confident are you about the commercial success of Baba?
A: After seeing the first copy of the film, Rajnikanth himself was very pleased and we are sure that it will be a roaring success. There is no doubt that it is also going to be a landmark film.
Q: The pre-release hype on Baba was driving Rajnikanth fans crazy. Why?
A: Rajni’s last release was in April 1999. Since then for more than three years and four months everybody including his fans worldwide is eagerly waiting for a new release from him. The media too has been giving a lot of prominence to the release of Baba.
Q: What is it that makes Rajnikanth a sort of demi-God?
A: I think he has a larger than life image not only in his films but in real life too. According to my experience, he is a down-to-earth, humble and above all a good human being. Maybe that is why everybody loves him.
Q: How did the story of Baba evolve?
A: The story and screenplay was by Rajnikanth himself, as it appears on the credit title in the film. When he narrated the story to me, I was amazed by his vision and clarity of thought. He is a great improviser who can make the film better even while shooting. Every morning we used to work on the script and nobody understands the mind of a common man as Rajni does. He knows exactly where to place the mass oriented dialogues and how it works.
Q: How would you describe the much talked about ‘Rajni Style’?
A: Baba is my fourth film with Rajni and I can say that there is no hero in the World with such mass appeal and charisma. People come to the theatre to listen to him and no other actor has the star power that he has. Whatever he does on screen, there is a unique ‘style’ about it. He knows what ignites the crowd and his trademark punch lines and dialogues create a halo around him. The kids of the new generation recite all the dialogues from Baasha even today!
Q: There have been many clones of Baasha like the recent Chiranjeevi starrer Indra. Please comment.
A: I do not like to blow my own trumpet but Baasha was a classic within the commercial format. This film, due to its mass hero subject has inspired all the heroes in other languages. But trust me that nobody has ever been so successful as Rajnikanth. He understands the pulse of the common man.
Q: You are the first director who introduced current day politics into Rajni potboilers in films like Annamalai and Baasha. Please comment.
A: (Laughs) Yes, I did introduce a pinch of politics into Rajni films because he is a mass hero and now people expect him to make a sweeping statement about the current state of affairs. But it has to be sugar coated and packaged well with all essential ingredients to make it successful at the box-office. In Baba too there is politics, but no political party or leader has been targeted or shown in a bad light. The censors had given the film a clean ‘U’ certificate and even ladies and kids will enjoy the film.
Q: But the music has not been appreciated?
A: Who said so? The audio is selling like hot cakes and will do better once they are shown on satellite channels. Please note that A.R.Rahman’s music takes time to grow on you.
Q: Is the film going to be a launch pad for Rajnikanth’s political career?
A: You see the film and decide for yourself. All I can say is that- “Known is a drop. Unknown is an ocean”!

Vikatan is too biased to give 39 marks to BABA. It should be less than 30.

for all those who are talking of collections: Rajini's film will ANYWAYcollect more than anyone else in India. But do you think that determines success or failiure? if u have little time to spare speak to people who have seen baba and returned with blank faces. They have nothing to talk about the film.It is even more disappointing because the tickets would have cost him not less than 150 rupees. I in the theatre could see all his front seat fans shut quite because they did not know what to do about their star's activities.

Seems RK's aanmikga guru died recently. The Sun TV newsreader said something to this effect which had me ROTFL...
"Swami so-and-so was watching Baba while he had an attack. He died soon after the movie ended".
Was Baba that bad? :-)
