Hi guys,
I strongly believe that this song is surely the best of the vintage collections that we have from 2001. I hear the song atleast 30 times a day,... Due to some reason it really touches the soul of the listener, especially the starting combo of humming and the violin. I just want to try to ask some person who have no idea of tamil to listen to this song, and guess what this tune conveys.

My 4-1/2 year old daughter and 8-month old son are addicted to this song. My daughter, prior to this song, would always insist on playing only Disney songs (Tarzan, Mulan, Emperor's New Groove) when we drive out and will not let me play Tamil songs but now (thankfully) it is "Undhan Rajyathil" all the time.
My son begins cooing everytime he hears this song.
This is a great song...just reaffirms my opinion why IR is a class above the rest....

Hi Friends,
Great to see that IR's song reaches the beginners in life too! The melting tune in this song will surely make any sensitive person cry, IMHO!

IR can reach the hearts so easily... probably, its just because, he works for his satisfaction and not the market.

To me its the best song of the year so far. Unbelivable Ist interlude. The way IR sings the second charanam(especially "Inge eppothu ne thodungu") was awesome.
Also in the same album, "Enna paada paduthura" has some gripping WCM movements in the 1st interlude.
Asusal this will all go unnoticed.

One among the ever green melting melodies of Raaja... Nice song.. and even ennenna paada too.
I personally like the dappaangutthu songs also.

"naalaiya vaykaikku maligai kattita inru adikkallai pottan "
"nee varum munname, vaayum idam thandha dhaarenru nee enna maattai ".
wooow.... Mu Metha has done one great job .

adadaa now we are having threads for individual songs. What next, thread for pallavis, charanams and lines?
If we question this the admin closes the thread. This clearly shows that admins are also interested only in one particular MD

Let us list all the "Undan Rajiyathil" category songs:
Here is my list,
1. Kadavul ullama - Anbulla Rajninkanth
2. Aadungal Paadungal - Guru (Tamil)
3. A chorus song in RaajaPaarvai at Blind school (does it start like "Panivizhum...")
4. Enn Guruvum - Housefull
5. Undan Rajiyathil - Aandan Adimai

I think the one you are mentioning is the prelude to 'andhi mazhai'. The way a simple 'mellisai' like prayer song blends into a rich, classic 'andhi mazhai'..... one has to hear it to beleive it.

yes, that is the one i mentioned, but it is the prayer song for the blind school in the picture, so that I can include.

UVII, the song no.2 in your list doesnt fit well..its a happy song sung for Deeepavali celebrations in that film..the rest I think are prayer songs..both kadavul ullame and undhan raajyathil have a slight pathos touch to them ..in fact the first time i heard this song i was reminded of "kadavul ullame"..
but I honestly feel that like in the kadavul ullame song IR could have just let the chorus sing or chosen someone else to sing other than himself..it brings down the song a little..

yes...agreed Vijay. I think the list now is :
1. Kadavul ullama - Anbulla Rajninkanth
2. Devanin Koyililae - Vellai Roja
3. A chorus song in RaajaPaarvai at Blind school (does it start like "Panivizhum...")
4. Enn Guruvum - Housefull
5. Undan Rajiyathil - Aandan Adimai

raamaa, I guess your son hasnt heard "veetukku veetukku vaasapadi venum" yet then :-)) because this song is a blatant recycle of "veetukku veetukku"..sandham wise..also even the "thanguduthakka tharikida ...thome" part before the start of the original has been modified and reused...
overall, its a pretty medicore album..with one good song and another OK one(ennana paada paduthara)

UVII,
I don't know if this song has come in any film yet. But there was a song that IR song during the inaugaration of Swabhiman Foundation (led by Revathi, Rohini etc). It goes like "Idhyame idhayame anbu ennum dheepam thannai yetru". That song was really wonderful. I guess even that can be included in this category.

on: Fri Jun 8 15:07:20 EDT 2001
I do not agree with the fact that "nammava thappu pannina" is the same as "veetuku veedu". In the beginning, the tabla beats are similar but the tune of the song and the beats thereafter are not similar at all.

Deepak,
I know that song, IR composed that song on the stage with all the kids, revathi, rohini, Nassar singing it. Wonderful song indeed. Yes, That can also be used in the list.
Later on IR used the same tune in a malayalam film called "Man of the Match" - song name is "Virahamai".
So the list now is:
1. Kadavul ullamae - Anbulla Rajninkanth
2. Devanin Koyililae - Vellai Roja
3. A chorus song in RaajaPaarvai at Blind school (does it start like "Panivizhum...")
4. Enn Guruvum - Housefull
5. Undan Rajiyathil - Aandan Adimai
6. Idhayamae Idhayamae Anbu ennum - Sung at inaugaration of Swabhiman Foundation (Does anyone have this video recording?, it came in SunTV ).

Uh hoh!! That song was composed on the stage huh?? I remember that he walked in, greeted the stage people, picked up the mike and started singing!!

UVII,
I dont know whether we include this song in ur list. The song is "Innarul tharum annapporani" from AATHMAA, sung by T.N.Seshagopalan and chorus.
And the second one is "janani, janani" from THAAI MOOKAAMBIGAI.
If u want to include the songs from malayalam GURU then "guru saranam, saranam naadhaa" is an apt song to the list.
If u want to add other MD's songs, "iraivan varuvaan" from SHANTHI NILAYAM, "ammaavum neeyae, appaavum neeyae" from KALATTHUR KANNAMMAA", "devan thiruchabai malargalae" from... i dont remember the movie and MD ( IR??!!)
are few...
Vijay,
I agree the first few tabla beats and thaalaangu thaalam are similar to veettukku veettukku song. But not the entire song. The tune, music everything is different.
And moreover it's not a medicore album. How do u draw a definition for medicore songs? The songs must be situational. For village oriented songs or films, do u want drum beats and Jazz music??!! IR could have done like this because of the situations explained to him. Will u categorize the songs in NAATTUPURAPPAATTU as medicore??? Dont expect a music used in KM or FRIENDS to be there in movies like these...

"Dont expect a music used in KM or FRIENDS to be there in movies like these...
"
Saravanan, my expectations from him is always high..and IMO he didnt meet it in Aandan adimai..so dont worry about it..:-))
Regarding your argument that he tuned for village situations did someone tell him to reuse the beats that he used for "veetukke veeetukku"? that shows that while he made an effort to do something in "undhan raajyaththil" the other 3 songs he did nothing special about them..he could have asked his assistant perhaps to come out with those tunes..:-))
even "ennen a paada" which I believe is set in Mohanam has nothing to rave about..it reminded me of "melur maaman melaga paakuraan"(sung by chithra) from makkal aatchi in places..

Vijay,
How can you overlook the first interlude in "ennen a padda". It was just awesome. Initially I too kinda skipped the song after a minute into hearing but by accident I heard the full song and the Ist interlude caught my attention. Please revisit the song.Especially the violin movements in the fist interlude. Amazing timing.
The tune is very ordinary(compared to IR standards) but very rich in orchestration.
