ARR is a great musician considering the extent to which he has revolutionised TFM.......but does he copy a lot??
But I personally know just a few songs which are lifted and it is of course every MD's right in TFM to copy........NOM to deva :-)
They are.....
1.Telephone Manipol, the beats part from All That She Wants
2.En Veettu thotathil........sum carnatic song??
3.Velli Malare in JODI.......from some song in Karnan??
4.Muqabla......those cool beats in the end not lifted but inspired from some english song
5.Sundari from KM.......i dunno abt this one....coz i heard extremely similar beats in The Drew Carry Show.....may be co-incidence
6.Manasukkul oru puyal from STAR.......these beats exactly same as i saw in a movie played on Star Movies.......i mean towards the end when the cast and crew are displayed.
7.Shakalakka Baby......i feel these beats are kinda similar to those in NFS 3......not sure though
8.KM from KM.......again in one particular place the music is similar to ( not much ) wat i heard in NFS 3
can any body add onto this list.........???
Please donot pull other MD's into this discussion and star sum sort of ARR vs IR war........i know tis too hard to resist but please do :-)

Arr to my knowledge only takes bits from his own music..
The only copying he's ever done r
1. Telephone Manipol beats
2. The piano part in Kulluvaalile from Muthu

"Thillaana thillaana" from Muthu.. the basic rhythm beat is a loop which i heard in Discovery channel. Just an example.
ARR is heavily inspired... and i dont think he copies directly... he lifts tunes/bits/loops from international albums and uses them as loops/BG/rhytm ...seems that Peter Gabriel is his favourite. and in my opinion, inspiration is awright, but copying aint.

NFS3 is Need For Speed 3......ya game.....ur rite
NOM=No Offense Meant
magix,
I am sure about the music/beats which were played in the drew carey show....they were kinda siilar to the opening beats in sundari.....i wasnt having brahmai......coz even my mother pointed out the same bit.......i dont think the two of us can have the same 'brahmai' :)......the music was actually played in the round in which dat black guy(sorry dunno his name) sings for the music played by the troop there (sum 2 or 3 ladies).
i never said it was a lift.....it may be inspired or just a coincidence.
KM from KM has similar beats to the one in NFS3.....towards the end........but it may just be for some five-ten seconds.......nothing great
Velli Malare.......i dunno........my father said tis so similar to some song from karnan.......any one clarify???
And the song in STAR......i don remember which movie.......ill try to find out
and just in case u concluded im against ARR......im a HCARRF.......just wanted to know if he's copied
and as for my scul......tis over......gotta get into a clooege now :-)

>>Thillaana thillaana" from Muthu.. the basic rhythm beat is a loop which i heard in Discovery channel<<
That vague humming in thillana is copied from a piece in the island of Dr.moreau...where the hero watches dr.moreau's daughter dancing alone...
and everyone knows of Dr.albans beats in muqqabla...There are quite a few...and have been discussed as many times...

Every MD's inlcuding ARR,IR,...may extract a tune from another song or theme music, it can not be classified as copying, copying means, the whole song it self, we have living example Deva, he is the one that creates the perfect copy, Vazha Deva

I think these 'lifts-from-loops', 'he-lifts-bits' and 'hey-that's-lifted-from-ace of base' have been done do death. I think anti arr ppl have this sadistic pleasure in digging this topic again and again and see HRARRF's wince everytime this topic comes to the fore - vice versa for anti IR ppl and the ilaya nila - kanavu kaanum example!
Lemme put it clearly on more time. Ace of base happened to use a commercially available rythm loop for the all that she wants song. The same loop was also used by ARR. ARR DID not lift it from AOB, it was available for whoever who needs them! Same with other loops like thillana opening and muquabla closing beats, shakalaka baby ryhtm and so on.
Despite loads of allegations of ARR lifting tunes from older Tamil songs (I'd idealy not call them lifts...if you are born in Tamil Nadu and grow up with film songs of your age, when you become a composer, your tunes are bound to source inspiration from what you've heard so far in your lifetime - In other words I feel its not a conscious effort by ARR to imitate older numbers)...I'm yet to come across a genuine tune lift of ARR. Now dont go on and on about thangapadhakathin mele, sippi irukkuthu etc etc. I'm tired. Read the above again for my response! It'd be the same next time.
Yes, one inspiration I've been wanting to ask ARR is the piano piece in 'hello mr ethirkatchi' which sounds a lot like Dave Grusin's piece in The Firm. Dave Grusin is a celebrated composer and I dunno how much he relies on commercial loops!

Even I am tired by all these. See board'sover's list... from some song, similar beats, kinda similar, similar but not too much.
Isn't there a Copied Songs thread for all these?
And is ARR copying )or any otehr MD for that matter) breaking news to warrant a new thread?
It is about time the page maintainers started charging for opening of threads. (Naa thappichen.) :)

boardsover ,
What i heard from ARR's mother is that he got caught 'blue'(ink pen) handed when he tried to copy in his 8th std exam..
So we can safely say that he copies..

hey guys,
before u are mistaken im a HCARRF......ever since i heard ARR's Roja
when i heard some of my cousins (and my father for the Velli Malare one) accusing ARR......quoting the sources, i found them somewat similar........all my vague terms(kinda, sumwat) were a result of this.....so i just wanted to clarify if it is true
the music played in Drew Carey show and All that she wants are the only one i could recognise on my own
btw, sorry for using the word 'Copying'.....i guess it is a bit too harsh.........the main purpose of me starting this thread is to know more abt ARR's music........thought u guys wud let me know more.......unfortunately it looks like it is turning into an anti-boardsover thread :-(
