Remember the Music Director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music directors of Kamal Hassan's Alavandhaan. They seem to be missing in the Tamil scene for the last 2 years and they are doing really good in the Hindi field. They have given solid musical hits in Hindi such as; Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahtha Hai. I think they can be brought to the Tamil films again. I feel they are definitely better than Deva and a few others. I think they are the best as far as Hindi Film Music goes after A R Rahman.
I would like healthy comments who listen to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and have a fair knowledge of Hindi Film Industry.

hi oisg we dont use an arranger i am sure rahman doesnt use an arranger either. anu malik does use an arranger. mr srinivas murthy is our orchestrator not our arranger. i think naveen has a strong identity in his playing and that is very important that him playing with different music directors will make their songs sound the same.i havent heard the music of baba so i have no idea.the idea of using pretty woman was concieved by karan johar.

hi somu most award functions are highly political and are huge media events . as much as one like to win awards one cant take them too seriously. as u know india has some 5 or 6 award functions every year. jury 's choose music etc on a highly subjective basis and sometimes the best work gets left out.even javed akhtar has not been nominated for his lyrics of kal ho na ho .

Hi Ehsaan,
Firstly, whats the difference between an arranger and an orchestrator?
Secondly, how much influence can an arranager have on the outvoe of a song?
Thirdly, are you giving music for "Shafaq" starring Mammooty????
Thanks and Please reply

an orchestrator is a musician who adapts a composition for particular voices or instruments or for another style of performance. in western terms an arranger is almost the same. in an indian context an arranger composed music sections and adds his touch to a composition hence a lot of indian composers sound the same. IR , Rahman , SEL do not use arrangers

Eshaan
thanks for replying and letting us know the above points. Yes I agree with you the awards are highly political. I would be happy if you win the FF award at least. For others who still beleive in Screen award (which lost its prestige a lot already) this year results
Himesh Reshammiya has Won "Best Music" Award for Tere Naam.
JAVED Saab has won BEST LYRICS Award for "EK SAATHI AUR BHI THA -LOC."
Kailash Kher has won "Best Playback Singer" Award (Male) for Allah Ke Bande - WBHH-II
Shreya Goshal has won "Best Playback Singer" Award (Female) for Jaadoo Hai Nasha Hai - JISM
Question is did anyone here listened to the song from WBHH-II yet? I did not and tonight I will listen to it. I heared that he sang in ARR Rising movie.

Dear Ehsaan,
Whats the most diffcult part? composing the music or doing the orchestration?
Nowadays, the basic tunes almost remain the same with different orchestration, so is the orchestartor more important?

Somu- Allah ke Bandhe is a very different song, sung very well by Kailash Kher. It starts with 'Toota toota ek parinda', and 'allah ke bandhe has de allah ke bandhe' is the refrain that keeps cropping up at the end of each verse. Minimum orchestration, with the vocals given prominence--great philosophical lyrics too.

i think composition is the toughest because thats where the challenge lies.

Ehsaan, but dont compositions tend to be pretty similar nowadays? I mean a dance number, a punjabi number, a love song...dont the compositions, irrespective of the MDs sound a bit repetitive?
Also, what the influence of classical Raagas in the current Hindi film music? Do you depend on Raagas for your music?

the compositions are based on the requirement of the film if you listen to our soundtrack for alavandaan u will see what i mean it has a completely different genre of music.
indirectly all compositions amount to some raaga or the other , yes one does depend on ragaas in sme instances.

Ehsaan, Can you give some examples of your songs based on Raagas?
Also, how much dependent are MDs on keerthanas?

Hi Ehsaan!
A small piece of advice reqd here.
I am a 23 yr old who can sing. I did learn carnatic music for 9 years quite early in my life. But now have not been in touch for quite sometime, for the last 8-9 yrs. I am planning to restart my vocal trainings.
What do u suggest me to take up? My main objective is to be a good singer and not a mainstream classical musician. Will learning western classical help?
Expecting ur reply when u r free.
Thanks!

Hi Mirage I would really suggest that u get back to you classical training be it indian or western. both are disciplines which require a lot of time commintment and if u can work out a balance between both then i would suggest studying both. my suggestion to be an all round singer is to listen to all kinds of singers ranging from indian classical / film to western opera and classical to blues and jazz. the best training in addition to you formal music training is to listen.

Thanks for ur response Ehsaan!
There was a slight hesitation initially from my side whether I shud be joining western vocal training. Now that u have also voiced out it to be a good option, I am going to take a second dip in vocals :-)
Thanks Ehsaan!

Dear Ehsaan,
what are the different processes in getting a song done? Can you pls give a brief idea on how its all done?
How long does it take to get a song done?

hi vijoy first we listen to the entire script and get an idea as to what the song situations are. we then sit and bounce idea off the director and lyricist ( normally somewhere out of town) we spned anything between 4 days to 6 days per song not counting the mixing time.

hello ehsaanji...
I dont find any kind of similarity between Koi Kahe and Ennai Konjam maatri. but rahman's sa re ga me starting from boys seems to be inspired from your 'koi kahe' from DCH. the sounds/feel i the same. jus a doubt...how did you manage to get such sounds??...were the sounds created by you...or it is an 'available' sound??
