Hi Friends,
It's time we recognised that IR is the only person who gives equal importance to comedy as an emotion and as a song situation. Just have a ear at these songs which though convey a sense of comedy have great compositional skills. In fact, IR is the first and only person till now who broke the feeling, "comedy paattukku idhu podhum" and brought it to the center stage:
1) Maamaavukku Kuduma - Punnagai Mannan
2) En Pathiramaathu - En Bommukutti Ammavukku
3) Mappillai Mappillai - Paasap Paravaigal
4) Namma Boss - Naangal
5) Gundu Onnu - Arangetra Velai
6) Ooru Vittu - Karagaattakkaaran
7) Anne Anne - Kozhi Koovuthu
8) Pachaiyappa - Thendral Varum Theru
9) Maamanukku - Velaikkaaran
10) Summa Thodavum - Mudhal Vasantham
and many more etc., etc.,.......
Can we discuss this in detail?

Kavita,
Why should I change the title? I think you misunderstood me. I am glorifying IR and not defaming Him. A comedian is a person who makes us laugh by His work. IR makes us laugh in His comedy songs even without the picture. If it is right we can call Kamal a comedian for his acting in Michael Madhana Kamarajan and Thenali, it is right to call IR a comedian too!
What do you all say?

His interviews are more hilarious than his comedy songs-long live the comedian

Vijay,
The comic effect comes from the lyrics. The tune is just the usual dappaaankuthu.
My contribution:
Pacha moLagA athu kAram illa - from Mr.Bharath - Late Viji's dance number.

Neel:

Mere lyrics cannot provide a comical effect for a song of this kind of situation. I can quote a number of examples with very good comical lyrics where other MD's, while facing a similar situation, have deliberately reduced the standard of the tune thinking, "comedy paattu thaane"! But my arguement is that IR never ignores such situations.
"The tune is just the usual dappaaankuthu"
Aiya, Ungalukku manasatchi irukka?
Can you call "Maamavukku Kuduma","Gundu Onnu", etc musically inferior songs by way of composition to any other standard IR song?
Do you think all comical numbers are dappanguthu? Probably, based on situation, you can say "Thanni Thotti" from Sindhu Bairavi is a Dappanguthu! But even that song bears a typical Rajamuthirai.
You must listen to the songs carefully before commenting. Listen to the flow of the interludes which are by mood itself very hilarious. You will then understand!

You are right. They are not all dappaankuthu. I take it back.
"Enna samaiyalO" - semiclassical.
"Maamaavukku kuduma" - pop.
"pOdA pOdA puNNaakku" - folk.
Please award me back my manasaatchi.

I have already explained the reason for naming the thread so in my previous posting. I or anyone for that matter cannot change the name of any thread after it is started as per newtfmpage provisions. I hope people know this fact. But I still say that I am justified in naming the thread and I am glorifying IR in contrary to what you all think!

If you notice IR's background music for comedy sequences one will realise what a great sense of humour he has and how well he is able to use his music to express his humour.

Hi! That was the next topic I was trying to touch and you have done it before me!
Can we ever forget the BGM for Goundamani-Senthil in Karakaattakkaaran? In fact that lifted up the humour content in the scene a lot, IMO! The introduction of the characters itself when they enter the village with an old car will be humourous due to the BGM!
Other examples to follow!

Vijay,
I can remember that tune. It was used in sun tv for comedy varam and also some other comedy program.
How about the song in Thooral ninupochu?
En soga kathaye kelu thaikulame...

I wanted to mention the movie Naane Raaja Naane Manthiri which is the only comedy movie of Vijayakant I think and you have to see the movie to enjoy the BGM. That movie came in 85 I think and I have seen it many times just for some memorable BGM pieces.
Also Aan Paavam has some memorable BGM pieces in comical situations.

IR usually watches the film once and the next day he sits for the backgroundmusic...I read this somewhere...
No where his background music looks odd...This indicates that he loves watching movies and involves into it deeply..Because if u think of composing a song to a situation, even if the tune is not perfectly matching the situation listners wont find it very odd...But background music can be composed only if u fit into that situation and have a feel of it..Raja is great in that aspect...
Yesterday i had a chance to watch MichaelMadhanaKamarajan in RAJ TV ...wow...What a background music for a great comdey film...

Friends,
What about the BGM in comedy sequences in "Mudhal Mariyaadhai"? Esp. when Nadigar Thilagam lifts the stone? It is one of my all time favourites! Comments please!

Kavitha - Truth is always bitter.
IR definitely had a good orchestra to play for comedy sequences as a MD.
But the way he composes and speaks in public and press of late, makes the thread true!
I think he is not a full 'gnani' of Thiruvannamalai, because he is no different from other MDs who blabber unable to accept failures and flops. He has already started repeating his tunes with ARR rhythms. His melodies are not catchy, and he is self-pitying tooooo much!
He definitely needs some psychological help.

You are really crossing the limit. What do you know of Tiruvannamalai? Or for that question, what do you know about IR as a human being? If you have the guts, mail me and we shall have a real arguement. You must not comment without knowing the history. Unga Anti-IR velaya ellaam Anti-IR threadsla vachikunga. This is for discussing His comedy music.
He is the only Gnani in TFM. You better get some more brain from somewhere to understand the thoughts of the genius which are not for low IQ fellows like you!

Hi all,
Just now I am returning to net after seeing a sequence from Rajadhi Raja - the place where the Rajinis meet at Nadhiya's house! Yappa! What a great musician this man (or someone above man?!) IR is? He has composed a single tune for both Rajinis but plays them with different orchestration and timing so that the one for the character "Raja" is majestic and that for "Chinrasu" is comical!
May be, Maestro is saying by music that these two guys look similar but are still different in character? IMHO, Maestro is the only person to make so many co-relations in BGM to the story!
