He has produced some really great music, especially in Malayalam. But I was wondering about some of his tamil ventures. I know he has some movies in tamil. I heard one and it was pretty good. The movie's name, I think, was called "Thaye Nee Thunai" or something like that. Anyone heard the music to this movie?

ravindran is a great musician - indeed and isn't this an underestimation?
He has composed some really mindblowing scores in Mallu - Aaram Thamburam, Bharatham, His Highness Abdullah.

I think Thaye neeya thunai was composed by Ben Surendar. Ravindran's Tamil movies are Rasigan oru rasigai and another Sivakumar-Ambika-Lakshmi-Ganga movie (forgot the name).

V, I distinctly remember Ravindran's name in the credits of "Thaye Neeye Thunai". I think the movie has Karthik in it. Anyway, check the movie out and you'll see.

Bharatham was great. I had the opporunity to listen to KJY live singing Ramakadha. It was a mei-silirkka vaikkum experience. All the songs in that movie were great, (if you excuse the interludes that were taken from Jagadhanandha kaaraga. Did the situation warrant it?)
I would really like to listen to his tamil numbers.

Try Ravidran's Rasigan Oru Rasigai, s0. It is available on www.musicindiaonline.com
Kaatrinile Varum Geetham by VJ and Paadi Azhaipaen Unnai Dinam by KJY are haunting songs. It will be intro - trust me. :-))

Naaz, if you haven't, you must listen to the original versions of these songs in the Malayalam "Thenum Vayambum". 'Otta kkambi naadham' and 'thenum vayambum' are mesmerisingly brilliant! KJY at his prime, Ravindran in full flow..

MGS's song in HH Adbullah is a great one.
Also Ezhisai geethame - sivarnajani handled in a unique way.
With more people knwoing the Mal songs i suggest a G Devarajan's thread too.He is another MD like VB who had some path breaking and brilliant numbers.

Ravindran as a composer has consistently given some sweet, timeless semi-classical numbers. His numbers in Tamil may be limited, but in Malayalam, his track-record is amazing!
KanmaniyE PEsu *ing Sivakumar, Lakshmi, Ambika had a great S. Janaki number: 'Nalam pAduven Nee vAzhathAn'. Great semi-classical melody typical of Raveendran with some interesting piano and violin arrangement.
'PAdi Azhaithen Unnai IdhO thEdum Nenjam'& 'Ezhisai GeetamE Enakkoru Jeevan neeyE' are both in Shivaranjani I think, but with completely different shades.
When the much-acclaimed film 'Bharatam' *ing Mohanlal, Nedumudi VeNu, Urvashi was remade in Tamil recently by hold your breath, P. Vasu (forgot the name of the movie, ws it 'vAsu'? it had Karthik and MAlavika in the lead), I was taken aback! It had music by Deva and I saw a song on TV and almost puked...
The song had absolutely no merit and the picturization was an insult to one's sensibilities and of course to the original movie.
Wonder why these producers can't employ the original team to remake it in Tamil with local actors, retaining the soulful original music?
I think His Highness Abdullah also was remade in Tamil as a Satyaraj starrer, 'EngirundhO vandhAn' with some forgettable music and the 60+ GoundamaNi& almost 60 Satyaraj's 'abatha' comedy!
Raveendran IMO has given some great, complex songs for Yesudas, which most other singers would have difficulty rendering. A case in point is this song from a Malayalam film called 'AyaaL katha Ezhudunnu': 'Akasa thAmara pOley' - an exotic mix of Carnatic (Yaman KalyANi) and Arabic sounds, it is one hell of a complex number (and the song is about 7 minutes in duration). I even thought yesudas would get the National Award for it.
Has anyone heard this number?
Hope somebody brings in this composer back to TFM.

'ayala katha euthukayanu' music is by raveendran ..but chitram is not scored by reveendran..its by kannor rajan

reveendran is one of the best of mallu..but he has some plus and minus points ...he and kjy had a lot unforgettable songs ....he has his own style ...but after 1993 he only scored good music for 3 or 4 movies...arram thapuran, kanmadam , and recently released nadhanam...
but he couldn't produce his old touch ...songs from sughamo devi, kalipattam, his highness, bharatham, aye auto ...thats are the greats by ravi..and some of ravi-kjy combinations ....but he couldn't produce music with the trend ...he has won state award in 1991 for bharatham..and he has won neumorus private award for his songs...
now vidyasagar has been in mallu and people liked it bec he is giving fast numbers but he has given a lot of malayalam flavor songs thats loved by all kind of people ...suresh peters has gone ...s.p venkidesh gone ...so now mallu has only one copycat styler mohan sitara..even though he has given good numbers..but he is repeating his songs and rythms

source,
Who is the Malayalam MD of Priyadarshan's big hit, 'ThEn mAvin Kombathu' (original of Rajni's 'Muthu') who copied most of the songs and went on to win all the awards (Kerala state and miscellaneous others)?
I remember at least 2 songs from 2 diverse sources:
1. IR's MaRupadiyum song 'Aasa Adhikam vachu' became 'Maanam kuRugi ninnaaal...'
and
2. The Hindi oldie, 'piyA milan hO jAnA' became ' EndE manasil oru nANam'
That too, he won these awards in the same year as the mind-blowing 'Guru' (Malayalam) of IR was released!
Is he still very popular in teh Mal film circuit?
Is Johnson scoring music these days?

thats bernie-ignsious who has done the music and won the award...i heard it was copied ..after its audio release most of the people talked abt it...
he is not popular in mallu..i think he has done couple of movies and others are low budget...johnson isn't famous now he has given one good album in 1996 ...after tht he is awful..last year he had one but its crap ...i think he has two of them this year up to date ..
i think the famous in mallu ..vidyasagar..his audios sells like hot cakes..reveendran is still one of the best in mallu..but he doesn't do a lot of projects ....may be 3 or 4 ...now he scores depends on directors ...he scores good for good directors..recently one released and it was good ...and there is another director mohan sitara ...he is alright ...but he does like 10-15 movies a year..but he is dead last in mallu...and ousepachan is a good one too ....ousepachan and vidyasagar does like 3-4 movies a year thats all...

peter pan i think ..i am not sure ...guru by ir was released in 1996 or 1997 ..and thenmavin kombathu was released in 1994..the song were popular ....the couple of songs u mentioned were copies..but there was two songs were really good
"karutha penne " sung by m.g sreekumar
"kallipunkuyile" sung by m.g sreekumar
both were very popular here ..i think thats why he won the award ....

"kannan vandhan" was remade from "Chithram" and not His highness Abdullah.

md of 'thenmavin kombathu' was berny ignatious, brothers i think, it was their debut album. none of their later albums have made such big waves like thenmavin kombathu. with 'chandralekha' 1997 priyadharshan tried to create magic with berny ignatious, but the songs weren't as cool as the ones from thenmavin kombathu...
ir's 'guru' was released in july 1997.
johnson is a much better md than many so-called hit directors of nowadays, like mohan sitara or suresh peters. he had his last peak around 1996-1997 with his all-time hit 'sallapam'. last year his 'uthaman' had very beautiful music.
