Known as '
Nammavar ' Mahesh, he balances his passion for music with his corporate career
as a Director of a Private Limited Company, Real Image. Mahesh's interest in
music started in his early years. His parents, identifying their child's keen
passion, enrolled him as a student of Dhanraj, who incidentally was also the
mentor of Music Maestro Illayaraja.
Mahesh learnt the rudiments of
Western Classical Music on the guitar and successfully passed the exams
conducted by the Trinity College of Music, London, for the guitar. Throughout his
years in school, college and later on at the Management School at XLRI,
Jamshedpur, Mahesh won many accolades and started a ' Pop ' group called the
'Versatiles'. His interest extended to Indian Music also and Mahesh learnt to
play the Sitar. Opportunities then came his way to compose 'Jingles' and music
for advertisement films. Before his foray into the film world he was known as '
Sottu Neelam ' Mahesh! He went on to compose over 250 jingles and many Tamil
film serials.
His entry into the film world was
inevitable and in his first movie titled 'Nammavar' featuring Kamal Hassan and
directed by Sethu Madhavan, Mahesh won the National Award for music and also
the ' Screen Panasonic ' award for the Best Debutant Music Director. His first
Telugu film 'Premichi Kundaon Raa', won him a double platinum disc for
outstanding sales of music cassettes. Having scored music for over five feature
films, Television Serials, Mahesh's latest is a ' Pop ' album called '
Butterfly'. This album is special, for it has the well-established and
accomplished Carnatic Musician Veena Gayatri, hailed as a child prodigy,
singing 'pop' for the first time. Gayatri has also played the Veena.
In Butterfly one can 'hear' the true
fusion of the Indian with Western, a mix of the truly traditional with modern
masala. Mahesh has also directed a song with Sukhwindra of the Chaiya Chaiya
fame. A real survivor, Mahesh has successfully fought against Cancer. His zeal
for life and his positive attitude is fully reflected in his music.

Don’t miss the beautiful, but sadly neglected song “udaiyOdu pirakkavillai,
uNarvOdu pirandhuvittOm”. An amazing song, to say the least.
