ஜெயகாந்தன் என்றவுடன் முதலில் ஞாபகம் வருவது அவனை வாழ வைத்த தமிழையே தரக்குறைவாக பேசியதுதான். சமஸ்கிருத வெறியர்களின் முன்னே அவர்களை மகிழ்விப்பதற்காக அவன் ஆற்றிய உரைதான் இன்னும் நினைவில் இருக்கிறது. இறந்து விட்டான் என்பதாலேயே அவனை தலையில் தூக்கி வைக்க வேண்டியதில்லை. நன்றி மறந்த இவனெல்லாம் ஒரு ஆளா? அப்படி ஒன்னும் பெரிய அறிவாளியும் இல்லை இவன். சாதாரண எழுத்தாளன். தன்னை தானே பெரிய அறிவாளியாக நினைத்துக் கொண்டு தமிழை இழித்து பேசிய கிறுக்கன். இவன் செய்த தவறை நெல்லை கண்ணன் போன்ற தமிழறிஞர்கள் சுட்டிக் காட்டிய போதும், எனக்கென்ன என்று இறுமாப்புடன் இருந்தவன். இவன் மறு ஜென்மம் எடுத்து தமிழ் தொண்டு ஆற்றி செய்த தவறை திருத்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

ஜெயகாந்தன் அந்த சமயத்தில் பேசியது என்ன என்பது எனக்கு சரியாக நினைவில்லை. வட மொழியை அனைவரும் கற்க வேண்டும் என்று சொன்னதாக எனக்கு நினைவு. இணையத்தில் தேடியதிலும் அதுதான் கிடைத்தது.

"CHENNAI, Friday, Sep 02, 2005: Learning languages of other countries have been on vogue among the student community. With an aim to make the ancient Indian languages such as Sanskrit as popular as other languages amid the students, a Sanskrit week celebrations was organised by Samskrita Bharati at Meenakshi College.

Speakers at the `Samskrita Sandhya' celebration stressed the need to study Sanskrit to learn the roots of Indian culture. Drawing a comparison between Tamil and Sanskrit, Tamil writer Jayakanthan said Sanskrit had to be learnt to enrich Tamil and both the languages shared many common words. He also cited kings like Rajaraja Chola who propagated Sanskrit. Vaghul, chairman emeritus, ICICI, recalled his childhood when he familiarised himself with Sanskrit and wanted to learn the language. Scholars were acknowledged only when they learnt Sanskrit along with their local language, he added. Sanskrit's association with medicine and health was highlighted by Solomon Victor, director of the Heart Institute."
