1. கங்கை கரை தோட்டம் கன்னிப்பெண்கள் கூட்டம் கண்ணன் நடுவினிலே - PS excellent - wondering nobody mentioned this

2. வாரோயோ வெண்ணிலாவே கேளாயோ எந்த கதையே

3. கண்ணாலே பேசி பேசி கொல்லாதே

4. விஸ்வநாதன் வேலை வேணும் - one of all-time great teasing songs

5. நெஞ்சம் மறப்பதில்லை அது நினைவை இழப்பதில்லை

6. ஓராயிரம் பார்வையிலே உன் பார்வையை நான் அறிவேன் - inspired? lifted? but I can not ignore this awesome song

7. ஓ ஹோ எதனை அழகு இருபது வயதினிலே - peppy

8. நீ எங்கே என் நினைவுகள் அங்கே

9. மனிதன் என்பவன் தெய்வமாகலாம் - PBS

10. காற்று வெளியிடை கண்ணம்மா

11. நினைப்பதெல்லாம் நடந்து விட்டால் தெய்வம் ஏதுமில்லை

Going further down memory lane. I believe we need to look at these movies as a base from which Tamil film music developed. That will give us a good idea as to how far we have come.

I would like to draw attention to two movie, whose songs I believe everyone interested in Tamil film music history must listen to.

1. Nandanar. There were multiple versions of Nandanar. I remember Randor Guy writing about this in detail in the now defunct sangeetham.com long time back. I am referrring to the Dandapani Desikar's version. All songs are carnatic music oriented. Dandapani Desikar has a ringing voice and adds a lot of emotion to the songs. I think it was Papanasam Sivan who would be credited for the music. 'vazhi maraithirukudhu', 'varugalamo', 'kaamam agatriya thuyanavan', 'ayye metha kadinam' are some of the lovely numbers that should not be missed.

2. Meera: An excellent example of how the singer, the character and the song cannot be separated. I think S V Venkatraman must be the music director for the Tamil version, where the tunes were different from the Hindi version. (Many of the actual Meera bhajan tunes in the Hindi version were tuned by Dilip Kumar Roy.) One of the greatest voice in any form of music.

Some more Vishwanathan Ramamurthy stuff.

1. 'thottal poo malarum' (Padakoti / TMS - Susheela/ Lyrics??) : Lovely claps. Wonderful Suddha Dhanyasi based number.

2. 'thazhayam poo mudichu' (credits?): A very nice folk melody.

3. 'kattodu kuzhal aada, aada' (TMS/Susheela/Eshwari, Lyrics?, Movie?) - Another very nice folk based melody.

4. 'ponnonru kanden penn ange illai' (Movie? / TMS/PBS/ Kannadasan): One of the early Brindavana Saranga number. An evergreen number.

5. 'poo malayil or malligai' (Ooty varai uravu/TMS/Susheela/Kannadasan): Was this only MSV? The humming at the start proclaims that this is going to be an instant classic. The song maintains that level.

(Iru dhuruvam- oh what a song .. inikka inikka nenachu .chu..... what a singing by PS .. KD, MSV again )

2. Thesulavuthey then malarale (TFM cannot ignore Shri Adhi narayanrao (husband of Smt Anjali devi). He was a very talented musician and his musical score was beyond imagination.. this one is an epic song.. Ghantasala & Suseela wow what a rendition ...)

3. Azhaikathe ninaikathe .. another gem by Adhinarayanarao .. the flute creates magic and PS takes it to greater heights..

4. Kangalum kavi paaduthey (SG and TL have sung it so beautifully which again is a brilliant composition by Adhinarayana rao from Adutha veettu penn..) I just love this song



5. Then unnum vandu ma malarai kandu ..
one of the catchy tune which i got inclined during my early days. What a music by t.chalapathi rao and lyrics by k.p.kamatchi(remember the priest in parasakthi)
Veenai inba naadham meetidum vinodham viraladum vidham polave . Sweet AMRaja with PS .. is definitley one of the top songs of TFM
