Shall we discuss about copying ( I think a more gentler term is "adopting") of musical innovations also.
Listen to the 1960's Vis-Ram compositions.
1. "kAtradithAl thalai saikum nAnal, kAthal vandhAlthalai saikum nAnam " - Film "kAthirundha kangal"
2. "manithan yenbhavan deiva mAgalam" - Film
Sumaithangi.
if you listen carefully you will notice there will be a single note piano beat through out the beginning stanzas when there is western accompaniment.
This beautiful accomplishment missed out by most music directors including the Jambavans in the Hindi field was after - the 1960's stage singers
PLATTERS - in the song "ONLY YOU - TO MAKE MY HEART"

Telugu MD's Raj-Koti had been at the top of Telugu FM even during IR's reign. But are equally responsible for the most number of copied songs in TeFM history.
Song:
"Mila mila merisaavu..." from Pokiri Raja
http://www.raaga.com/channels/telugu/movie/A0000183.html (the second song)
is lifted from
"Kala Kala.." from Eeramana Rojave
Koti was part of IR's group for a long time. He is the son of the genius telugu MD S.Rajeshwara Rao.

If you watch one of the commercials of Mini Cooper (which is shown in PBS, before BBC Worldnews), the music that is part of the commercial is copied in the song "enge kaal pogum pogavidu.. kaalam oru naal kai kodukkum. adhuvarai poruthiru", probably an old Sivaji movie. Not sure which is original.

I was listening to "Enna Desamo " from Unkannil Neervazhindhal Dir by BM and MD IR.
Looks the song was heavly inspired from RDB's " Naakoi Umang Hai" from Katipatang.

A small confirmation-
setup a mathi(sundara purushan) copies shamelessly from CIRCLE OF LIFE(THE LION KING), specially the african lyrics in the beginning featured in the song CIRCLE OF LIFE.

Friends,
In the movie Autograph, whoever did the BGM has used the tune of Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' in the scene in Kerala where Senthil (Cheran)
goes everyday to Lathika (Gopika)'s house when she has gone outstation & in the following scene when he gets to know it's her birthday (in the
rain).
A female voice was used to hum the tune of the song.
On another note,
In the serial Annamalai, Dhina has used occasionally a particular piece of music which comes in Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', directed by
Francis Ford Coppola (Starring Keanu Reeves). The piece of music comes in 'trouble' scenes in Annamalai. His other bgms for various
scenes, have heard them somewhere before also.

The bgm (Boat scene) was uncannily similar to Titanics BGM - When Jack dies and when the old lady drops the necklace into the ocean.
I think John higgins did the BGM for Titanic.

that irritating (for me) song "Engal veettil ellaa naalum kaarthigai" from 'Vaanathai pola' is lifted from (or viceversa) from an Aishwarya Rai movie, i think its Josh..?? Or someone told me that even that Josh song is an old song's rehash.

Anybody watched Chinna Pappa Periya Pappa yesterday (election episode) on Sun TV? The theme music was a ditto copy of the BGM of Indru Poi Nalai Vaa. I think Rehan is the MD.

Watch out for the song in the Hindi film “MUSKAAN”.It sounds the same as “Engal Veetil Ella Nallum Karthikai”(MD:SAR).I don’t know the words in that song but the hero in that song falls from top of something and dances. Gracy Singh is the heroine.

CP,
No, it's not the first instance!
SAR's "akshaya pathiram" song, "Edho oru paattu En kaadhil Ketkum", which he himself has recycled in every film and almost every song of his ever since, has been copied in Hindi.
And the culprits are none other than Sanjeev-Darshan (sons of Shravan of Nadeem-Shravan). I think the movie is Mann, their debut film, if I am not mistaken.
