Ashwathama...I didnt mean to undermine your efforts in my previous post. Just wanted to inform that this is rather old news and a simple google search would yeild results of forums where this has been posted and discussed. Just felt that there's not much point in discussing old stuff.

The resemblance between Last Christmas and YSR's 'Where do we go' is easily noticeabale. Both the songs has almost the same beats which makes it even easier to notice it.
How could you have missed that ?

Copying :-
1."Roja Malar vEndumA" song from the film
Gemini's "Raji yen kanmani" is heavily based upon the Spanish folk classic "La Paloma"
2. The song"Pirakkum pOthe azhugindran" from the film "Kavalai yillatha Manithan" was heavily based upon Dean Martin's "With his little mandolin" song.
...and more to come.

Hi Guys,
The BGM in Kadhal Konden as the theme for Sudeep & Sonia's love, the tune is quite similar to the tune of the track "Boadicea" from the album The Celts by Enya.
Regards.

Any place where I can get an audio clip of this theme?

Velji...
Very interesting. I remember reading in another thread that 'Roja malar venuma' was inspired by the theme music of Charlie Chaplin's City Lights. I havent hrd the Tamil song or the 2 originals mentioned here. Would sure like to start with the Tamil tracj first....any place where I can get a clip of this track? Dhool and Musicindiaonline have only one song from this movie (Malligaipoo Jadhi) and not this one.
And yes, after 2 Hindi lifts, Dean Martin's 'Man with the mandolino' sure seems to be the source of the Chandrababu track...though it has been considerably reworked by Viswanathan Ramamoorthy.

I came across a song "Sorgam Maduviley" from movie "Sattam En kayyil" (music IR?)
The "Charanams" have a uncanny resembles with a Kishore Kumar number
"Ye Jawani hai deewani ,Ruk jaa o rani". I am not sure which came first and who the MD in
hindi is.
The first charanam in Tamil is
"KAAdal oru Geedam , adai kanden un idam,
PONAl aval POnal , NAAn parthen Nooridam..."
The hindi one goes as
"BAAtein Mulaakaatein, Karney kee shaam hai
Aisey Mein Arey Roothna, Deewaano ka Kaan hai...
Karthik/Anyone can throw more light??

Read the last part in hindi as "Deewano ka Kaam hai"

Sri...
I dont see a very direct similarity in tunes of the charanam. BTW, Jawani Diwani came in 1972, while Sattam en Kayil was released in 1978! And yes, IR is the composer, while RD Burman was the composer of the hindi track!
- From: sri (@ 203.200.199.155)
on: Fri Feb 20 06:16:22 EST 2004
Thanks Karthik,
Maybe not directly...
But i felt that the only major change in IR (at least in the part i had marked above) vis-a-vis the RD clip is that the tempo is raised. It was almost immd that the hindi tune flashed to me when i heard that part.
Thanks again..

My Dear Karthik
You are right! "malligaipoo Jathi" is the song!!
In fact the words "Roja Malar Venduma " will come in between. Please listen to that song.
I have La Paloma as a sung version in Spanish which is about 3.40 MB. Even if I zipped it it comes to 2.94 MB. If you need I will try to send segments of it in a small file.
Charlie chaplin's film is LIME LIGHT and not city light for which he himslef composed the main theme. This tune was also lifted by Vis& Ram in the song " Pandal yirundAl kodi padarum , PAlam amaindal vazhi pirakkum" in a Sivaji film whose name I don't remember. But in this film the buxom actress Chandrakantha will be in a wheel chair!

Further the (Anandha Jothi ?) MGR song "Ulagam engum ore mozhi...
kAdhal Mozhi" was a direct lift from the 1960's
Madras Listeners' choice English programme favourite song
"Hang down your head Tom Dooley, hang down your head and cry..
Hang down your head Tom Dooley, poor boy you bound to die.."

The yester year MD Veda was a avid fan of western pop music of that time.
His "Minnal Poochi jackettu, Melae parakkaum rackettu" song was a direct lift from the carrebean song " Drinking rum and coco-cola".

I think the song in Naadodi is different on charanams as this one is a repeat of the same pallavi. Adhe Pallavia paadaran :-).

Niwdah, that is a joke. The song is 200-300 years old. The original composer is oothukadu venkatasubbaiyer. The song is a pretty much a household song.

hahaha.....this is the joke of the year. Alaipayuthey kanna is copied from an IR song??......LOL
as Someone rightly said, it is a classical song composed by Oothukadu Venkatasubbayar, in the 18th century!!!
bias against ARR is clearly evident here.

I listened to that Tom Dooley track and it reminds of so many other songs. The prominent 'Ho-ho-ho' of 'Kung-Fu fighting', shades of 'By the rivers of babylon'!!!

My Dear Karthik
I have not heard Ho-Ho-Ho , but Babylon is right! You have a keen sense of music! Congrats.
Did you notice traces of Babylon in IlayaRaja"s
"oru penn pura ..etc.etc... enthan nimmadhi pariponathE" ( i don't know the film's name but Rajunikanth will sing this sad song.
