explains why the monalisa song sounds like it has been inspired heavily by
'vasanthame arugil vaa' from amaran composed by the same MD.

Hi Guys,
I do not know if you guys would agree with me if i say Uyire is a good album. But somehow i find all the songs to my liking.Infact i like the tamil version compared to the hindi one. That may be attributed to seeing the film in tamil.Without doubt some of ARR songs seems similar to my fav western pieces. But then i cannot remember any song totally taken from one. Some of you have said the beats/rhythm is similar, i personally feel that is no scale to frame a MD.
Regarding Copied songs...Minnamma from ASAI is OH mama...phil collins/Genesis.
Akila Akila..Nerukku Ner----Buffalo Soldier
A B C D Pollae-----is an exact replica of Reggae #

Arun,
"But then i cannot remember any song totally taken from one"
That's the reason why I'm calling him "multiple-inheritance ARR" :-)

One more to MI-ARR's credit...
Chandiranai thottadhu yAr's (rakshagan) BG is a "Alt-x & Alt-V" of Sunita Rao's paree hoon mein.

Guys,
The song "monalisa" from Roja Malare is very similar to the song "Ilamai ennum poongattru". Just sing both and check for yourself.

Hey,
I find ARR's Tittle song of Jeans "Madhumitha"
very close to Michael Jackson's "Will You be there"
I am bayangara visiri of ARR still .....

The song Keladi Kanmani was copied from the Tezaab song because Tezaab came first (Oct 1988) and not
the other way.
Raja has copied quite a few times. Once I heard an English song which was exactly similar to the first few lines of "rum pum bam" from the film
MMMK.

mr. raja-also-copies-once-in-a-while,
i don't understand the similiarity between the 2 songs. can u please explain? other than the first 2 words which perhaps has 50% similiarity the rest of the songs are COMPLETELY different from each other including the interlude music.
if first 2 words are same then chumma don't say it is a copy. the interlude of the tamil song is countless times better than the hindi and does not bear even the remotest resemblance to so gaya.

I feel that the "Vandhe Maatram of ARR is inspired by IR's Kaalapani version. The type of beat seems very similar. Similar is the choral exploration. Both give a filling feeling.

The beat in the song 'Akkadannu' from the film Indian is definitely inspired from "Loving the Common People" by Paul Young.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned earlier. I know that "Adi anarkali ennai paradi" song ( Ullaththai alliththa ) is replica of some English song.
Does anyone know what song it is?

the song is in the summertime by shaggy.
another song in that movie, chittu chittu kuruvi is a straight lift of a punjabi folk number, laung awaacha.
sirpi is quite broadminded when it comes to lifting. he doesn't restrict himself to any one kind.

Hello Raja_also_copies_once_in_a_while:
This one is for you and others who are unable to make up their mind as to what a copy is:
The song 'SO GAYA YEH JAHAN' is definitely way diffrent from 'KELADI KANMANI'. I advise you to kindly listen to both the numbers FULLY, and not stop with the first 2 words, which I agree have more or less the same notes. It is absolutely unfair on the MD if you accuse them of COPYING in cases like these. And as I have always said in earlier threads too, please give exact detailed reference when you bring up this issue of copying. That halps us understand the differences or similarities for that matter.
Earlier too, people said ARR has copied DITTO from such and such number, but most of the times I found them to be untrue. A definite copying case will be songs like Akila Akila (DEVA), Chittu Chittu Kuruvikku, Adi Anarkali(SIRPI)etc. or when you say for instance, the 2nd innterlude of this song is taken from Deep Forest's such and such song.
Hope you got my point. Thanks.

While we are at Keladi Kanmani, and copying, I would like to add that the song KELADI KANMANI was copied to a great extent by Anand Milind (the biggest ever IR copying machines) in a film called BAGHI. The song goes like this: 'Chandni Raat Hai, Tu mere Saat hai'.
Another case in point is: 'Ilaya Nila Pozhigirathe'. This was copied by Kalyanji Anandji in the Hindi remake of 'Payanangal Mudivathillai' ('Kalakaar' in Hindi, starring Sridevi) as 'Neele Neele Ambar par Chaand jab Aaye '. This too wasn't a cent percent copy, but the essence of the song and the guitar pieces were retained. This Hindi album also had an instrumental version, which stuck to the original cent percent. The song went on to become an immensely popular number and an all-time favorite of Kishore Kumar.

Isn't the song 'Raja raja sozhan naan'(Rettai vaal
kuruvi - IR) seems to start along the lines of Hindi song 'Aaja sanam madhur chandni gagan'.

Ram Kumar,
You are right, I had this hindi song performed last week live here , and I sounded similar to RRC. Chords pattern are similar.

Srikanth:
Are you suggesting that RRC was copied from the hindi song ? I am asking because this thread is about copied songs in TFM. Can you post a comparision of the chords in both songs here please ? Personally, I don't think RRC is similar to "Aaja Sanam" in any way.

Hey,
I am sure IR was inspired from Aaja sanam,
because as and when I played the hindi song I always ended playing RRC.
The basic melody and the meter (timing) are similar.
Especially the first few lines...they are structured in the same pattern, no doubt about it.
Aajasanam - sa pa pa pa
Raja Raja Chozan sa pa ma pa
In the Anu pallavi always I can see same formation.
I will give you the chords for both, It is at home.

Regarding the guitar piece of IlayaNila, I recently had almost a similar version in one of the NOW3 songs. The pattern, tune is almost similar. ofcourse NOW3 came couple of years back, PM came a looong back. May be there is a common source or IR could be the source for these guys!

Aaja sanam starts in upper sa and comes to pa..
infact the sa is bended.
sa(upper)pa pa pa | ma pa tha
Raja Raja chozan has similar opening parts.

The first line of the song vandhaaL mahAlakshmiyE
(Movie: Uyarndha Ullam; MD?) is a straight
copy of the starting line of the song,
mugaththil mugam paarkkalaam
(Movie: Thanga Padhumai; MDs: MSV/TKR).
Both songs are in kalyANi.

Uyarndha Ullam MD is IR. btw, hindu review rated that particular song as a pathbreaking and praised IR for mixing hindustani very well.

Apart from the first line copy, the songs are
quite different. Similarly, I think the first
lines of kaadhal kasakkudhaiyyaa (aaN
paavam) and kaadhal kanirasamE (some
PUChinnappa movie) are exactly the same. However
the two songs are different afterwards. In fact
the former is in chitharanjani raga (s r2 g2 m1 p d2 n2)
whereas the latter is in shanmukapriya (s r2 g2
m2 p d1 n2).
