oh, so deva has already poached on ofra haza, has he? chche, this guy is incorrigible. btw, it is rumoured that deva knows next to nothing of even the basic music fundas and that all his hits and duds are "composed" by his "talented" brothers. deva is used as a front because of raasi. in fact, one of his first big hits "yeh kutti munnaala nee" from Indhu was actually a gaana paattu created by a mahaa vetti in life called "kallarai" baalu, a guy who's mission in life is getting stoned and singing in a graveyard somewhere in madras!! sad but true.
another really sad sidelight is the recent death of the wife of one of deva's brothers, of cancer.

cram : Thanks for these "revealing" insights.
I myself have noticed some of these copies ;-
I have also noticed that the rap-humming in Iruvar has been repeated as Ishq kar blah blah in Dil Se.
Did u also notice that the rap-humming after the malayalam chorus "golusalle blah blah" is also in the same "tune" ??? :-((
Two repeats in the same album ! Phew!!!!

yeah novelty, dil se was not exactly what i have come to expect fro ARR. but u can't blame that chap. he needs inspiration to come up with gems, something that never stopped IR from giving us some unforgettable numbers. for eg, i recently saw a movie called agal vilakku that has one of his greatest numbers "Yaetho Ninaivugal" by KJY. was shocked to see vijakanth and shobha koothadifying to such a classic. no wonder IR has stopped giving memorable stuff. ippadi paattai kolai pannina!!

shashi, the hindi song u mentioned earlier does not end "meri yaar shabak hai" but " mere yaar shabba khair". the song was lifted note for note by VEDA (antha kaala DEVA)for a song that goes
un kanngalil yaen intha veruppu
something something
aasaiya koabamaa
aasaiya koabamaa
on copied songs, on sun tv i have seen this song that goes
kanavu kaanum vaazhkaiyaavum
kalainthu pogum kolangal
thuduppu kooda baaram enru
karaiyai thedum odangal
which is a straight, unabashed lift of kasme vaade pyar wafa from manoj kumar's uphaar. i can't believe IR (sun tv credits the song to neengal kaettavai) would do such a thing. answers anyone?

IR copied the song because he was totally compelled by the director. He was insistant on IR reproducing that song in tamil. From what I have read.

Another song pair which look very similar in emotions are:
"Kangal Engay Nenjamum Engay" by P.Susheelam (Great Man !) and "Maalayil Yaaro Manathodu Pesa " by Swarnalatha (Blown up!). hope Raja has derived his inspiration from that song. the first and second lines are extremely similar. But still I do not feel that IR has copied because the songs have their own individual impact.

murali,
IR is said to have got inspiration for that song from the hindi song 'khilte hain gul yahan' sung by kishore in the film sharmili. IR is a fan of SD burman.

cram,
Read my earlier posting to see why IR redid the song as Kanavu kAnum.
It was Balumahendra who insisted on that.

It was told by Gangai Amaran in a program that
(few years back) the hindi song 'Ek Do teen' from Tezaab is

I don't know whether this copied song was posted altready in the thread.
1. The song in DIL SE sung by Sonu Nigam "sat Rangi Re.. Rangi re.. " seems like a Punjabi or Hindi version of "Urvasi Urvasi.. Take it easy urvasi.." - kaadhalan.
2. "Kabhi kabhi ka.." - DIL SE sung by lata I guess. The 0pening Heavy Electic Guitar seems to me as a straight lift from PINK FLOYD Album WALL or is it again juts a coincedence as ARR always says.
But I like to hear the DILSE songs putting aside all these things.

i do not understand the similiarity between the above 2 songs. except perhaps for the first 2 words which seem to be somewhat similiar sounding the rest of the 2 songs are completely different in both tune and orchestration.

Keladi Kanmani was copied as "Chandni Raat hai" in one of Salman Khan's early movies - Baaghi. Suggesting that IR copied Sogaya is like saying Beethoven's Choral Symphony was copied from "Yankee Doodle went to town..."

Guys,
Just check out the song 'narumugaiye..narumugaiye'
in Iruvar.. Sing it 2-3 times(2,3rd lines) and then sing
'thangaman inru singa nadai pOttu' from Basha..
Looks like ARR listened to this song before Iruvar ;-)

Hi Mr.Ramami,
Thagamgan is (a irregular) Kedaram based song, changes as it likes, has no tune in the saranam.
Narumugaye is Nattai based and changes to different ragam. Also a excellent tune and renedered perfectly by Bombay Jaishree and Unni. Not like Thagamgan - Saranam and other parts have a "thoivu" or a hole in the score.
KJY and Chitra tried thier best to improvise it. The credit goes to them rather than DEVA who hobby, profession, business is copying.
Both the ragas are similar. It is not copy.

I was listening to 'Bombay, Madras, Delhi...' song from Ratchagan. All of a sudden it hit me that this song's starting lines are nothing but the famous nursery rhyme 'Old McDonald had a farm, eeaa, eeaa Oh.
Now try singing Old McDonald had a farm three times and then sing eeaa, eeaa oh as the fourth line--- Wallah.. you have 'bombay madras delhi song.

Hi Nitin
If you don't beleive me try playing both the songs yourself on any instrument. The notes are basically the same with one small difference. Bombay madras.. song starts after "samam" or "thatu" whearas Old McDonald starts with "samam or thatu".
Notes in both cases are Sa Sa Pa D2 D2 Pa for the first 3 lines and the 4th line is G3 G3 R2 R2 Sa (ie the eeaa eeaa oh portion)
If you read my posting I never mention that he copied from this rhyme. It is just an interesting coincidence.
Yesterday I happen to watch a commercial for Chrysler concorde. I thought towards the mid portion a melody starts which was very similar if not same as the "Kaatu Vazhiye oor karachaan kuruvihala.." This is that high pitched somewhat irritating prelude to Thaiya Thaiya in Uyire. Has anybody noticed this before?

In Uyere,
Thaiya Thaiya : The saranam part is nothing but Harihiri Nandhinee solkam.
