The movie was great. For the first time, I saw audience clapping at the end of a movie.
I'll write my observations in greater detail later.

Not surprisingly, the ticket had only Rajini's, Manisha's & ARR's name. (& the date, time & venue of course).
And guys, u r right. I'm beginning to tolerate the kichu kichu song. :)
And yes, Prabhu Deva's was not tat good, RL's was much better.

Here are my thoughts on Baba...
Some highlights of the movie:
1. When Baba gives examples of yogasanas which result from doing daily chores (did u notice the bgm when he is talking & manisha & her family listen in amazement)...i liked the way he ended by saying he was blabbering watever tat came to his mouth.
2. Baba's shoe stunt...puts all of James Bonds' shoes to shame...Baba's ROS (Remote Operating Shoe) detaches itself from his foot, kicks the villain and then returns to his foot...this was one of the most entertaining moments of the movie...had the audience falling off their seats. If tis happened in a kamal's fantasy ride or a Ajit/Vijay wannabe flick, I wud have been rolling my eyes in disgust. But in a Rajini movie, it's one of the "moments" which makes every Rajini movie memorable.
3. When he makes his $$ wish...when the father of the girl he rescues inserts a piece of paper in his shirt & he opens it...the entire audience gasped in unison (unfortunately i wasnt gasping as my mum had already busted the story to me)...tat was probably the most unexpectedly realised wish.
3. Meeting with Mahavatar Babaji...certain concepts such as "I am God & so are you, but while I realise, you don't" may have been abit forced upon many people who havent been introduced to such things before...but for me & my family & many of our friends there, it was amazing to see rajini had the guts to portray such things in his movie.
4. My most fave part of the movie...the first 2 wishes with the kite...did u notice the bgm when Baba plays hide-and-seek wit the second kite...it reminded me of something i've heard before...i dont know if it's the instruments used or the tunes, I intend to find out once I get hold of my own copy of Baba...Anyway, going back to the kites. I loved those. For me, those were the most memorable part of the movie. The insignificance of the kite landing on him brought to focus the struggle of the mind in coming to accept the reality & presence of God in one's life. I think we dont need 7 wishes to experience these moments. Anyone who thinks of God as a friend probably have experienced these personal struggles in life. The tendency to write a granted/answered wish/prayer as a mere coincidence and to have little believe and trust tat any of our prayers wud be ever listened to, let alone answered. I can go on & on, but I better stop..(gattam gattam)...watched those scenes wit almost tears in my eyes. It was beautiful. rajini played the part of the unbelieving & confused layman to perfection.
It was good to have Gaundamani back again. He was genuinely funny. Really complemented the movie.
The Rajjyama song was broken into several bits and appeared at appropriate moments throughout the movie..the lyrics suiting each part. Explains why I had 2 fragments in my cd.
Dippu Dippu picturisation was done hurriedly. Which wasnt surprising...Lata RK said on the Sun TV interview tat RK had an injury and cudn't lift his right arm...so if u notice the dance steps, RK doesnt lift his right arm while dancing.
In Baba Cinema Cinema, the picturisation & the accompanying music were too "matching" & made me suspicious...VM had said RK talked to him for hours explaining in great detail what he wanted in his movie...I suspect, he probably already had in mind wat he wanted for each scene in tis song & got ARR to make the music suit each scene. U have to watch this song carefully to know wat I mean. The rise & fall of the music seemed to suit each scene.
Prabhu Deva deserves a kick for kichu kichu & RL had used some of his MahaGanapathy movements from Amarkalam in Maya Maya. I was glad an explanation on wat "chaya chaya" meant was given prior to the song.
Shakti Kodu was interrupted unfortunately.
The ending dragged on abit more than necc. The villains almost became representation of evil forces in the movie than actual characters. Which is probably in line wit wat RK wanted. Tis movie seems to have been made to bring a message across, more than to portray a realistic story or to provide entertainment. For those who complained of the predictable nature of RK movies, tis shud be a relief. Anyone expecting another Padayappa wud have been greatly disappointed.
I'm glad ARR got the opportunity to make music for a different movie like this.

WN,
did u notice that make-up was not good in the movie.....some scenes its really bad.....they cud have concentrated better i feel
if prabhu deva had danced in kichu kichu then the movements were proper.....but for RK its a bit TOOO much.....RL had chosen simple good steps dat RK was able to do well....except that "balancing one"....repeated toooo often! :)
my fav part was that third wish.....with that padayappa music!.....i loved that scene :).....and also the scene when he makes the 7th wish.....he tells wat ppl are waitin for....done in a humorous way
ARR did a great work with BGM (sunday when i had gone along with my parents i heard a guy sayin ARR-a kokkaa! :) ).....though shakthi kodu was interrupted ARR took care that the beats of the song werent affected.....esplly the music durin the Mudra Puja
many tamil dailies already say that since BABA hasnt gone well with the public RK is releasing his next movie (on Jan-15 i guess) .... name also given..... "Soorappa" !!
:))
i dunno where they get all these weird names from! (thnk god it wasnt soriappa like padayappa!:)) ) ..... i guess its a 99% rumour ... not sure though .... supposed to be directed by KSRavikumar

Excellent review WN.
You have written what I have thought. The Kite scene is the one which I liked the most. Great thought. The fear in RK's face and his ambiguity was broughtout very nicely. The BGM in those scenes were really great. MY cousin, who is a HHHCIRF was critising ARR in some scene for BGM. He was actually disturbing me thruout the movie (I don't know whether this is a general mentality with ****FANS) but he himself acknowledged that that scene and BGM was good.
I wish to see this moviw again to enjoy it with out any disturbance. Hope, those who don't like the movie don't come to the theatre. Even if that means , I am the only one in.

Dear Friends,
Baba is not a flop! It is doing very well everywhere especially in foreign countries.
In Malaysia, it has been proved that it is top 1 of all movies. http://www.cinema.com.my/
In Singapore, it also creates record. Please see the Singapore leading English newspaper, The Straits Times, for the article. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Rajinidotcom/message/2285
Please don't say it is a flop. Baba is definately doing well compared to Aalavandaan.

"In Malaysia, it has been proved that it is top 1 of all movies."
How backward malaysian tamils are.. it is really a pity. Baba Songs and Movie complement very well. Both suck big time. I see lot of Arr fans add the word "BGM" in their reviews..!! Probably Baba is one of the worst albums in recent times.
Kathal Kadaral songs.. ARR kept on adding instruments randomly in every song.. He is real novice musician but knows how to fool tamil audiences especially Malayasian tamil stupids.

Wonder where Srinivasan is?
And how idiotic and moronic the host country must be to house a complete idiot and moron like Sirinivasan.
What to do? This is life.

folks,
i *heard* that the BGM was done by sabesh-muraLi(SM) from a friend of mine who is in Rajini Fans club. Generally whatever info he gave about baba (technical and others) were true. So i want to know who did BGM. WN and others did the credits in the title say sabesh-murali as BGM scorers?? (though i don't expect this to happen in TFM. I remember kattumarakkaaran BGM was done by SM and songs by IR but was not mentioned so in the titles. same i heard for an ARR movie.)
