"The unassuming nightingale has received her summons and passed on to the world beyond, but she has left behind her songs ?songs that are lingering epitaphs carved indelibly in annals of tfm, as in the hearts of thousands of steadfast fans. "
Saravanan, this was such a wonderful write-up! And such beautiful, moving lines.
For sure, I find Jikki's rendering of these lovely songs so captivating in its own right. It is always very nice to listen to two or more singers singing the same tunes in different languages.

It is hard to believe that Jikki was in her teens.Voice is sweet, expressions matured and on the whole a listener's delight. In Ane vaa -AMR 's uneasiness in delivering the custom made lip-synch words built, is noticable.Jikki's voice carries lesser inhibitions about the lyrics.
Ekanthama is just divine stuff.Kalyana oorvalam betrays the Hindi parentage more than once. But both these songs are real treasures.
Something about the lyrics - Kambadasan must have been the inspiration to Vairamuthu on deathly-strategies.)).Anbe vaa lyrics at times tests your tolerance limits.
Somehwere during 1988 when DD arranged a premature funeral to Rajkapoor before his death under the guidance of Simi Garewal ,all his movies were telecast.Nargis's husky "Raj" brings in the only solace.God!she was good and RK brought in the effects to neutralise that.
Earned "The greatest showman".(((( from whom? Prithiviraj Kapoor?.That title is the mother of all these absurd "Puratchi Kalaignar",ïLaya dalapathy"categories. His popularity in USSR....those are the side effects of 34 years of communist rule.

Ekanthama - melodious tune and sung beautifully - stands up against didi's version -thanks bb.
RajKapoor's contribution to hindi films and song sequences cannot be discounted, remember pyar huva - stays with you forever.

>After several twists and turns, the lovers >finally unite.
Theydont. Nargis will marry Raj kapoors friend(Pran) and her marriage procession will pass through RKs dead body.

OISG, I guess you are referring to something like a documentary series with RK looking back on his acting as well as (mis)directorial days. That was a good series.

Saravanan: Ramki is correct. Nargis does not marry Raj Kapoor in Aah. He lies dead while the wedding procession passes by. 'Kalyaana oorvalam' is played in the background.
Consider the rest of the songs for SOTD someday. Also, it is 'jala jal jala jal thandai adhan naadham', not jalakku jalakku.

OISG,
Raj Kapoor was very appropriately given the title
"Show"man.
Consider the facts
He showed
Padmini in " JDMGBH" & "Mera Naam joker"
Simi G in "MNJ"
Zeenat Amman(am?) in SSS
Dimple in "Bobby"
Mandakini in " RTGM"
after all this you are not convinced?
Probably u want to call him India's greatest Show "woman"! It is your prerogative . go ahead
;-))

Is it G Krishnaveni? In southern languages, it will be `ji ki'rushnavENi...which became jikki, I think...much like Padmini becoming pammi:-)

Senty, e is right. Jikki's full name is P.G.Krishnaveni. Pillavalu Gajapathi Krishnaveni.
Her father's name was Pillavalu Gajapathi Naidu.
I learned from a journalist friend that her pet name as a child was 'Jikki', and everyone started calling her thus. Or perhaps as e says it may a short form for G.Krishnaveni!

Posting a link here which I accidentally stumbled into. This site claims to sell mp3s legally and a portion of the price paid goes back to the recording companies. If anyone is desperately looking for that elusive mp3 or if you are one of those types who want to get music the right way
this is for you

Song of the Day: angum ingum from avargaL.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/angumingum.rm
- Sung by SPB. Music by MSV.
- I find the lyrics of this song to be pretty interesting. Kannadasan has written such apt lines to fit the storyline:
Angum ingum paathai undu
indru nee endhap pakkam
gnaayirundu thingaL undu
entha naal unthan naalo
Kallaik kandaaL kaniyaik kandaaL
kallum indru mella mellak
kaniyum menmai kandaal
kadhai ezhudhip pazhagivittaaL
mudikka mattum theriyavillai
Kannaa endraaL murugan vanthaan
murugaa endraaL kannan vanthaan
enthath theivam sondham endruk
kooRi poojai seivaaL
avaL ezhudhum kavithaigaLai
vidhi pugundhE thiruththudhammaa..
Simple lyrics, yet it captures the essence of Sujatha's dilemma. She meets her ex-husband who wants to get back with her, meets up her ex-lover and also has a poor ventriloquist hopelessly in love with her. What path will she choose today?

SPB-MSV songs esp. of the mid/late 70s period are to be treasured for the melody deprived listeners of today. To me, my favourite TFM combination. As usual, KKD quite effortlessly reaches out to heart and gives it a whirl. INterestingly enough, KB the director of the movie had invited both MSV and KKD to a college program and without prior notice, narrated the situation and requested both to start composing, much to the audience's delight. The entire song was composed on stage. SPB puts the song through with the right reflective tone with precision, though a shade less negative than iLamai enum poongAtrU which is yet another 'background' song. sollavA vENdum. ingitham niraintha sangeetha kalaignan !!!

Excellent song, aptly summing up the situation. Anu (Sujatha) is lying sick, while the men take turns in nursing her. A little while ago, she was all alone, now she has 3 men in her life. Janardhanan (Kamal) perhaps never had a chance; Bharani (Ravikumar)is still hopeful...but the wily Ramnath (Rajni) is pretending to have reformed..Anu is at the crossroads..
avargaL (1977/ Kalakendra) remains among KB's best films, with MSV and Kannadasan coming up with wonderful songs.
SL, you're right, I think it was at the Madras University Auditorium that this song was composed on the spot.
