It is a known fact that with Baba, ARR has marked his 10th year in TFM in a Big Way.
The beneficiaries of this prodigy's talents, tat’s us the fans, have decided to call for Celebrations in a Big Way.
Hence, a Constellation of ARR Fans from the newtfmpage Forum got together and took a walk down memory lane, through each year of A Decade of Rahmania.
The fruit of our labour saw the creation of a whole new Website, "10 Years of Universal Conquest", in Dedication to ARR.

Here's the bio of ARR at rahmanonline. Many dont seem to know much about ARR or his past. There are all these myths that ARR came from a rich family, had all the funds to do what he wanted to do in life and came up the easy way. Even worse, some fantasies that ARR had nothing much to do with music till his later life and he doesnt know WCM.
Anyway, here's a good site:
http://rahmanonline.com/bio/
Some interesting snippets:
"Dileep started learning the piano at the tender age of four"
"At the age of 9, his father passed away following a mysterious illness.."
"The pressure of supporting his family fell on Dileep. At he age of 11, he joined Illaiyaraja's troupe as a keyboard player."
Have a look here:
http://www.rahmanonline.com/articles/sections/father/five.shtml
"But all this had an adverse affect on his education. Infrequent attendance and an unaccommodative management forced him to shift schools from the prestigious Padma Seshadri Bal Bhavan to the Madras Christian College and finally he dropped out of school altogether."
His musical background:
"He also played on the orchestra of M.S.Vishwanathan and Ramesh Naidu and accompanied Zakir Hussain and Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan on world tours. All this experience enabled him to earn a scholarship to the famed Trinity College of Music at Oxford University from where he obtained a degree in Western Classical Music."
"He was also a part of local rock bands like Roots, Magic and Nemesis Avenue where he performed with his future colleagues like Ranjit Barot and Sivamani."
ARR's dad:

Those who know all this, pardon me. Since this thread is about ARR and his achievements, I thought his bio was relevant.

The laugh earlier is for these lines.

I visit every thread and post, but I enjoy seeing you shout. Even my constellation friends might not agree with me attimes, but you are carrying my orders with out any break. You keep shouting and that's good.

adhu dhaane nadakkadhu.

Great to see your desperation. My God, I never thought that I will get into your nerves so deeply. Oh God , I am that influencial?

A favour from ARR/MR fans in this thread:
Of the two films - Alaipayudhey and Kannaththil Muththamittaal - which do you recommend?
They are showing here at the film festival and I thought I might give either a shot (I don't think I can handle to MR films in the same month :-)) Your input and help is greatly appreciated - in advance! Thanks.

If "Mouna Raagam" is your Fav film from MR ..and if u are gng with your partner..then go to "Alaipayudhey"
else
if u love serious subjects dealing with socio economo politicio things..:-)..then go to the other..

LLD - Thanks. I will keep that in mind. Let's see what the consensus is in two days. The film screen here mid-next week. (BTW, I didn't much care for Mouna Ragam (romance) or Bombay (socio-political?) Now the dilemma :-)

Naaz, My choice would be to go with Alai payudhey... Kannathil muthamittal is a heavy subject and some ppl might find it too dragging in the second half.. Alai payudhey has the right mix of everything.... again as LLD has specified, mouna ragam fans would like alai payudhey and anjali fans would like kannathil muthamittal....
Are yaar, i agree with u about Chinna chinna aasai... The feeling you felt was what most of the people felt at that time... I saw the song on that sirappu oliyum oliyum and was literally zapped... 2 weeks later, I saw that movie in Rahini (the koyambedu complex) theatre and on my way back home, heard the songs in an Auto... The feeling I had that day was something , u can call it the aura mystique... Definitely Roja was a trend setter and ARR himself was a trend setter to TFM....

Thiru,
same here...i still remember that first "chinna chinna asai" in sirappu oliyum oliyum..same day we went to the movie and to my surprise there was very less crowd in the theatre(MSM theatre in thiruvotriyur)..i liked the movie and songs very much..and the songs was used to be telecasted(in ad) in radio long time before the movie got released and i felt that rukkumani song was very different..surely its a trend setter in music..no doubt abt it..my father used to hum chinna chinna asai..:-)..all age group was totally sweeped..the expectation was too high and that may be one of the reason why pudhiya mugam was not a Big Hit when compared to Roja..and everyone thot he is a one film wonder and he is gone..but he proved wrong..and still proving..

Naaz,
IMO, AP as pure pulp. It was a story abt a guy and gal falling in luv and running away tog. If ur not into cheesy one-liners and soppy romance, it can make ur stomach turn. Even Mouna Raagam had more gravity. U can watch it jus for the songs tho.
I watched KM 3 times and each time failed to stop myself from crying...and weirder still cried at diff parts of the story each time. It was a good attempt by MR tho it had room for improvement. Since ur a movie critic, I reccommend u watch KM.
At least wit KM, u'll have something to comment about, analyse & criticise.

WN -
I've had my "mush" pot filled to the brim for the next couple of years after watching Devdas. If what you say is true (and I have no doubt it is,) I will give KM a shot. Although, you talk about "crying" - and I don't play that "game" no more...But, thanks for your input. I hope it turns out to be a peck and not a slap on the cheek :-)
(In case you are wondering, my pick from the MR filmography will be Pagal Nilavu. Mouna Ragam was just a modified Nenjaththai Killadhey - minus villy sister-in-law, but same insipid Mohan!)
