hi guys,
For me spb is the best bcos he is an all rounder/versatile and conquered tfm 4 a long time...But some are saying that upcoming singers like HH and UK already reached spb's stature and maybe better than him...What are your comments??? I am a fanatic fan of this great spb..so my fellow fanatics, plz e-mail me if you want to discuss more abt spb.....

hello gv , i am a pucca pucca tamil. he has sung many good songs in tamil. but do not compare him with spb, rafi, kishore. he belongs to the class of pbs, amraja, mukesh etc.

Hi, deepa: That seems to be the problem:-))) I mean that you are looking at this in a "pucka pucka tamil" perspective. If you really want to know why KJY belongs to a much different class, please click below and read just the first few paragraphs:

Tell me, who in your first list has achieved all that much? I do not want to start an argument with you about this, but when you make sweeping statements like the ones you did, I just wanted to show you a few facts.

as far as singing in films are concerned , i said jesudas does not belong to the class of spb or rafi. may be i am wrong in comparing with mukesh etc. but certainly he is a great carnatic and classical songs singer and even spb cannot match him in those fields. our argument is only in respect singing of film songs where spb is the emperor and others are all kings.

Anyway, I respect your right to stick to your opinion. No more arguments, OK??

LV: I will send you an e-mail for "jiginaa" postings:-). I am NOT a hardcore fan of SPB's Hindi songs per se, though I will say that he has delivered some wonderful numbers in Hindi. I still hold my opinion on Rafi's regional songs. Looks like you disagree with IMF on his opinion vis-a-vis SPB and Rafi, as well as, rajaG's qualifications. I am honored. Thanks:-) Till date IMF has not demonstrated an iota of knowledge about SPB's thamizh/telugu songs and yet he wants to compare Rafi's Hindi achievements with SPB's thamizh/telugu achievements. I think that is foolish. As I rightly guessed, he doesn't have a clue. My knowldege in music may be suspect, but my knowldege about IMF is 100% AGMARK certified now!!!:-)
Please read my posts carefully again. I am as much a fan of Rafi as the next guy is. I am aware of his versatility - to the extent that he sang even for KK for a song which demanded somebody more than KK , viz. man mOra baanwara. However, I still hold that KK had a fantastic voice and and in many genre of songs he excelled. Yep! he was not the next Ameer Khan or Paluskar, nor was he a threat to Mehdi Hasan or Ghulam Ali (though he did sing ‘thOdi si jO peeli hai, chOri thO nahin kee hai’:-)). But we are talking about film music here – how many ghazals and light classical are we talking about per film? LMF has quoted HKKN- people were throwing money on tha stage when KK introduced Rishi with ‘bachna ai haseeno’. If you think panthee hun mai is path kaa, koi hamdham na rahaa, meraa jeevan kora kaagaz, chingaari kOi bhadkE, zindagi ke safar me bicHad hai, zindagi kaa safar, mei shaayar badhnaam, are BAAAAAAAD philosophical/pathos songs, nobody can make you see anything positive about KK. Prejudice is the word which comes to mind. Again I repeat – Rafi was excellent and had the complete arsenal of tricks. But despite limitations (in the area of classical and consequently ghazals or qawwaalis), KK excelled in many areas of film music – especially the basic meat and potatoes songs – sheely because of a wonderful voice. Denying it is useless. I am not prepared to argue about KK vs. Rafi anymore.
Since, both of us agree about SPB and Rafi being top notch, let us not get into the unpleasant area of who is better.
IMF – Until you learn some more about TFM, your posts are not worthy of a direct response from me in this forum. You may think it is conceit or ignorance about HFM – I have no compulsion to convince you to be a believer in me.

LV: Can't we all just respect other people's opinions. I just said IMO rafi is better than SPB. I didn't demean SPB in any way
and i didn't say he was bad or anything like that. Comment finds that kk has better modulation than rafi. That's his opinion and
we are respecting it. By the way, can you give me your e-mail address so we can discuss music.
Comment:
>>>>>you might write me off - i dont know much about it.
Comment, you are proving that you don't know much about the subject. And by the
statements you made you are not giving proper facts. Please research first then come back with your comments.
RajaG: We are talking about how good rafi and spb are in overall singing not in different languages. I have heard quite some of SPB's tamiz/telegu songs as well as his hindi ones. I know this topic was about SPB's tamizh songs but one guy early on in this topic said that SPB can only be compared with legends like rafi, lata etc. and he was making a general statement and not a statement about different languages. That is when i gave my opinion as did others on who we thought was better. If it was kept at different languages then all this arguing wouldn't have started. I agree that he can be compared to these legends, but IMO i still think rafi is better. I don't agree with you that KK had a wonderful voice. To tell you the truth, i don't find anything good about KK's voice. It is awful and sounds as if a truck is running over it. I only like a few songs of his songs such as "Gata rahe mera dil" and "roop tera mastana" where he actually sang better than most of his other songs. He can't be compared with rafi or spb. Besides, his voice doesn't have the "dard" that rafi or spb have. This is frankly my opinion. You can disagree with it if you want.
Let's all discuss music in a good way and not get into any arguments because of people's different opinions.

comment: are you "the comment"? endha Urla irukkInga ippO.
IMF: i have a good mind to hijack this thread to the usual NI/SI free for all bashing :-). your postings deserve only that. first, do not assume things about others (like, people south of the vindhyAs don't listen know much about the "INDIAN" art, blah blah blah). when u assume u make a nass out of u and me. second, make a sincere effort to learn before you form an opinion. the difference between you and people like rAjAG, comment, et al., is that when they compare spb with rafi they (would) have heard a huge portion of their outputs (at least > 50%, not 50 songs) and analyzed them. third, it's more difficult to open one's mind than one's eyes. fourth, please do not respond to this posting. i will not reply; and by the way please do not turn away a lot of "fans" of rafi, kk, ... by your militant (which comes because of ignorance) support for one artist. (of course, this applies to all ir, arr, msv, shankar-jaikishen (how did he land up here? :-) ) worshippers).

aruLaracan :
I am not assuming that SI people do not listen to Ni music or HFm or anything like that. I mentioned that the facts which people are saying here makes it look like they don't know HFM music that much. My opinion are based on true facts and not on false facts. I have learned music and know what i am saying. The comments which rajag and others are making, don't look like they've listened to more than 50% of rafi's songs and analyzed them, maybe spb's but not rafi's. My support for one artist is my own, and i am not bashing anyone's liking for another artist. I am just telling them the facts based on reality. If they are saying something out of proportion or context then i am only telling them the true facts. When i give an opinion on an artist, it is just my opinion and not any bashing just like everyone here has given their opinion.

well, those pathos songs of KK dont come close to the filmi pathos songs and filmi ghazals of Rafi at ALL. Moreover Kishores voice deteriorated ever after Aradhana. Rafis voice was good even in 1979 (the ghazals of Ghalib). Now, the basic meat and potato songs - Rafi & Shammi Kapoor??? What about those. What about 'govinda ala re ala'. I seriously feel KJY,Bhupi,Hariharan and Suresh Wadkar deserved more chances than KK. They are better singers IMO. I feel KK is candidate for MOST OVERHYPED artist in India.
Please, for heaven's sake, when did I doubt ur musical expertise?? No,no,non,no.
