Raghu,
Still, What comes to everyone's mind when u think of SPB is his High bass voice.
Even in song like 'unnai partha pinnu than'...as the song goes by, u can notice high bass. Sounds like High bass and SPB are inseperable!

Jeeva;
Are you saying that spb's voice beauty is only in the lower pitches? not good in high pitches???

I am saying there are singers who sound good and nice with low piches as well.
Unni Krishnan for instance.

on: Thu Aug 23 04:44:13 EDT 2001
Jeeva;
Unni's voice at low pitch, sounds feminine, not as heavy as SPB, Dr.Bala Murali Krishna's low pitch is very good, but then again not as deep as SPB's bass.
Any way, Have you heard of song(hindi) rendered by SPB for mithun chakaravarthy, a bit of the song contains tamil sentences like "naan than krishnan ayer sami...", if you do could you pls let me know the name of the film. also SPB rendered for jackie shroff, I think the song is "sunbaliya sukhriya ...", can you also tell me which film it is from?

One song i can remember of spb on jackie is from Gardish: "Hum na samjhey they baat itni see" penned by JA.

Ram & NCR;
thanx 4 letting me know, but I am 100% certain that SPB did sing couple of songs 4 mithun, I have heard them in Asian Radio station here in UK.
Another issue, is do you remember Mithun's "disco dancer", this film was dubbed in tamil, with "ananda babu", as the disco dancer,& all the songs are sung by SPB, I think it is called "vanam padi", could you pls clarify me on that pls.
Much obliged.

Raghuvaran,
The Mithun movie is "Agneepath", the hero was Amitabh.
Mithun's was a painfully hamming performance and his character "Krishnan Iyer Naariyal paani wala" was an insult to Tamils. And guess what? The Hindi audience thought he was superb as an authentic Tamil Iyer(!) Coconut vendor and showered him with a bunch of best supporting actor awards.
Well, Mahmood, the yesteryear Hindi film comedian was the original culprit... He shamelessly 'suruttified' many of Nagesh's Tamil film scenes in Hindi (but as is the usual norm, never acknowledged him). He also has the dubious distinction of stereotyping MADRASEEs and making clowns out of them!

The tamil version of Disco Dancer was Paadum Vaanumbaadi.

Neels and cosmician,
Digression starts
culprits are there in both bollywood and kollywood. remember seths(sayts) of thamizh movies? right from the MGR movies era seths(generalization for northies) use to speak "nambaL varaan nimbaL tharaan asal maelae vaddi thaaraan", just like thamizh iyers(generalization of southies) with pattai on their forehead always speaking "aiyoo swaamiee humu kuch nahi boltha swamiee" in hindi films. but yes i agree with mehmood copying nagesh's sequences without(i believe so) acknowledging.
The only difference in this northies southies bashing in kollywood and hollywood is that in hindi films leading comedians like mehmood did this role drawing too much attention whereas to my knowledge not so much of "seth" roles were played by leading comedians of thamizh; good example is mehmood's role in padosan a remake of aduththa veettu peN.

I did not know that "mithun" takes mick out of tamils, I used to like him, he was good looking,& a good dancer, I do hear that he used to act in Hindi films as tamilians!, any way this discussion is not abt mithun, but abt SPB.
Has any body heard SPB's "sivaarpanam"(devotional), the entire songs in this album are in sanskrit!, SPB have scored 100% as usual, but this time in devotional songs, you will forget abt this material world & enter the heavens, once you listen SPB singing these songs!
Amazing man

i think spb is the one and only person to be in the music field for more than 35 years especially in cine field and even now he is the numero uno in telegu, his mother tongue. this itself is a great thing to happen

Fan;
You are right, I mean even after 35 years, he is still the don in Telugu, but unfournatley TFM is in a mess big time, without him, but MD's prefer nasal & feminine voices like Hari,Unni Krishna, Udit,Shanker,Srinivas. what can we do,?, we will just have to put up with it.

i dont think this will happen for a long time and spb will be back in tfm due to public pressure.
the tragedy in tfm is no body feels the public pulse .

Hello all;
Does any body know whether all songs in "paadum vaanampadi" were rendered by SPB?, & who is the md 4 that film, is it bhappi lahari???
By the way I was listening to "saagar" songs, SPB outshines 100% better than KK, in the song, where SPB & KK sang together, KK sounds like an old man, but spb, need I say more.....
KK often sounds like IR, anybody agree with me...

Guys
After seeing so many threads, and also in forum hub too. Its really boring. I really felt to post the following, I posted there too. this might be digression to Tamil Music as I talk mostly about telugu film music.
Sorry for the digression:
Guys SPB has sung in many languages. He is considered great singer. He crossed 40K odd songs. He sings easily in many languages, His voice is a divine gift. But he is not the greatest singer in his home state AP. He can never be compared or can be reached to Ghantasala. In telugu Ghantasala is the greatest ever singer till this age and will remain the same.
The following are the reasons.
Melody Songs: Ghantasala is the best between the two. There are lot of songs where you will be mesmerised with the songs that Ghantasala sang. SPB tried to sing many of them later as an experiments with IR but original songs stand really great.
Devotional songs: Ask every individual in telugu. To whom they listen, Its Ghantasala not SPB. His voice has that magic where people feel the devotion just listening to his voice. He will be involved in the song as if in trance. SPB can never be compared to this. He is good, better but Ghantasala is the best.
Carnatic Songs: Definetely SPB is not a contestant here. Though he sang Sankarabharanam, you hear to ghantasala's easyness, modulation, he is no way comparable. still purist feel SPB as a child before Ghantasala. Even SPB himself agrees.
Complex songs: Just one example Shiva shankari, shivananda lahiri. This is the complex song ever in telugu film industry. How many people tried to sing this song and failed. There will be thousands who tried to sing like Ghantasala. All they failed. I can never imagine SPB can sing a song like that.
Bass and High Pitch: People feel SPB can sing both easily but you cannot imagine the same . Listen to ghantasala. you will feel where he stands.
Composition: SPB composed music for movies. But how many are known to people? How many are hit like ghantasala's compositions? Look at the ghantasala's compostions like Mayabazar, lavakusa. Can SPB match him?
Private Albums: Any body heard Pushpavilapam? man what a great album. There was a debate that karunasri was known to public just because ghantasala sang that. Look the expression, look the clarity, you feel as if flowers are singing. SPB can never bring this much.
Last but not least Listen to Ghantasala's Bhagavadgeeta. He sang before his demise. You will know what his voice is.
SPB is great but not the greatest.

NCR;
At least you posted some proper posting, I mean most here post garbage. I agree Ghantasala is great but not the greatest, I have listen to his tamils songs, he is good for example "Kaliyan samiyal sathm kai karikalum" from maya bhajar, and few old songs.
Ghantasala's voice is similar to SPB so as BMK(balamuralikrishna). These three singers have the greatest bass voice ever, But SPB's voic is some what different, his voice can enchance a silly song with a silly tune, like mostly composed by Deva.
I agree that Ghantasala is proper carnatic, but SPB is not, hence there should not be any comparison, yet SPB is awsome in carnatic, his carnatic music are self taught,not trained by any.
Now coming to SPB's music compositions for films; perhaps he did not do good film direction in telugu, but he certainly did in tamil like, "thudikkum karanghal", "Sikaram".
Talking abt melodies Ghantasala's melodies were 50's,60's & early 70's, were different than spb's 70's,80's,90's,00's melodies, there is trend, hence comparison can not be made, but SPB is the lord of melodies.
Now coming back to music composition, SPB has done several albums in Tamil & Telugu, perhaps you are not aware of that. His first song in 1966 called "raagamum athan thaalamum" was composed & sung by him, this is the song that attracted S.P.Kothandapani, this was the beginning of SPB era.
His devotional songs are also excellent as well as ghantasala,KJY,Seerkhazi Govinderajan, BMK...
Other factor was SPB is multillingual, hence he is talents are not restricted,as ghantasala,
by the way, I never heard Ghantasala rock!, can rock as hard as SPB, I do not think so, Can ghantasala can do that magical laugh of spb within the songs, I do not think that any one can.
So I conclude by saying SPB is the greatest ever in IFM!
thanks
