Rjay, Trend,
Usually when a composer composes music, he is more likely to use predictable sequences.
"Buddhiyuzha" starts in Minor, then its chord progression (you can play this song by breaking a chord!) is very predictable. Any composer can get similar kind of idea. While composing, it is good to avoid predictable sequences & chord progressions. This kind of compositions are catchy, but in musical point of view it is childish.

Rjay!
I have posted earlier that the `ooo' humming of Don't worry has inspired the `kAdhalikkum peNNin kaiyai' song of kAdhalan...now it looks like the kAdhalan song had another inspiration too (buddhi uLLa manidhar ellAm):-))

Trend, you are right. If you look closely at the melody and progression, there is no similarity at all. I was talking about the 'feel' or 'mood'
of the songs. That may be very subjective.
Naveen, agreed that Buddhi-ulla is a very simple composition. But the 'attitude' is very unusual and stylish. Ennada polladha vazzhkai has
a similar attitude.

We have to note that ChandraBabu writes the lyrics themselves. Musically, the composition may not be a classic but this is what is POP all about. The idea or attitude + music + lyrics should all gel together. We listen to POP not just for the music but also for the lyrics/meaning/mood. I consider ChandraBabu to be one of the POP pioneers in India. (Apply correction to the aforementioned views, as I have a weakness for almost all ChandrabAbu songs :))

kiru,
Most of Chandrababu's songs are in Rock style. During an Recording artists interview, one person who involved in recording chandrababu's songs said that Chandrababu never stand in one place and sing. he dances and keeps on moving here and there. So studio guys used to surround him with 6 or 7 mics pretending that all the mics pick up his voice. But actually only one mic is switched on!

Kiru's clarification makes sense and no doubt
JPC was a pop pioneer. He amazingly gels together
coloqquial lyrics (konjam thallikkanum) with
western influenced (derived) rhythms.
I recently read a story. Once MSV's group and Chandrababu went to Delhi and they were invited to the then President Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan's
residence. He asked them to sing. Someone brought a
harmonium and MSV gave the key and JP sang his
tear jerker: "Pirakkumbodhum azhuginran". Radhakrishnan listened to the whole thing and then
commented "what a meaningful song and what an emotion". JP got very delighted and he jumped into
the Presidents lap and with his fingers caught hold
of President's chin and said, "Kannu, nee periya
rasiganda". Everybody was shocked but then all laughed including the President.

Kiru, with your view, it seems to me
pop is contemporary Nattuppurappadal.

rjay,
most (=all) music except the written (western classical) music is nAttuppurap pAdal. this includes carnatic, hindhusthAni, blah blah blah :-))

Lot of w.c music is also derived from folk music (Stravinsky, Bartok etc).
