>>Probably KJY has more hindi followers than SPB<<
incorrect, this is purely your opinion, of course you are entitled to it, SPB is known widely in Hindi than KJY, this is fact, KJY has about 100 hindi songs to his Credit in Hindi compared to SPB's 500 hindi songs.
>>According to mallus KJY is god let alone singer!!!
<< very true!!!
but According to Tamil/telugu/Karnatika people SPB is god!!!

Rahu it your personal opinion. Don't make it universal. I don't think he is the greatest male playback singer every produced.

Last night I was listening to 'Nilavu thoongum neram'... a great song by IR... but what made the song more beautiful was SPB's voice and modulations.. He is actually beyond comparison...

“The best song is Baba Kichchu. No one but SPB could have sung this track with so much elan and the ebullient energy with which he modulates his voice effortlessly through the track makes one want to keep listening to it. Also, the lyrics by Vairamuthu are good and funny but full of political overtones - one reason why it will go down well with the fans”

raghu,
for baba songs, go to www.mohankumars.com
and for mp3, there is not just one site I can suggest. Thousands of songs and not all of them are available in one website.. www.anytamil.com sells some of them online, if you want..

Saravanan,
The song by Yasu Daas in 1997 that you have mentioned, is it from any mainstream Hindi film,
or is it an outskirt one?
Can you tell whether Yasudaas sang any Hindi
film songs in the 80's?

SPBS has not rendered? Any field, nook,

Hi all,
No doubt SPB is a greatest singer. I am an ardent fan of his. I just wanted to know if there are some songs in which u feel he could have done better in terms of modulations etc. I am sure there could be some songs of SPB like that

Rathiri nerathil ratchasa peigal star wars -- i heard SPB lost his voice for a whileafter finishing the song
Ram.. if it is not obvious... why do you want to do research and find out such songs... In playback singing singer sings the way the MD wants him to sing. He determines even modulation if i am right. I think there is only little scope for improvisation for a singer in playback singing. Correct me if i am wrong.

<<
ha ha ha is that so, ha ha ha
let me rephrase it
Hariharan is the worst singer with the worst voice that India had ever produced.. It is not fair to put HH in that place. SPB is greatest ever legend.even HH knows that.
Curses;
that was funny, but I think what outsider meant was the muscical types within India, since rap is west indian, u can not expect SPB sings a rap, nor can you expect M.C.Hammer to sing "shankaraparanam", enna sari thana :))

Ousider-
Sorry, I hadn't seen your query. Thanks for the reminder in the VJ thread.
Dhaud-1997- was very much mainstream cinema- it was a Ram Gopal Verma film and featured Sunjay Dutt and Urmila.
Reg. KJY's hindi songs in the 80s, I do know much about hfm- but a few I can recollect are:
Sur main akhiyon mein- Sadma
Dheere dheere- Haysiyath
Kahaan se aaye-Chashme Badhoor(was it in the early 80s or late 70s?)
One song in Pathaal Bhairavi-Music by Bappi Lahiri
As I already said, my knowledge of hfm is very limited.

There was a some Kerala DD related inaguration function where many of our leading singers(70s and 80s) gathered. This was Sep 15 2001.
SPB and SJ sang Sippi Irukkuthu..from VNS.
As they finished, SPB began, "mayakkam thanthathu yaar? tamilo..." and concluded "amudhoo??? kannadaasano?" !
That one gesture alone summed up the nostalgia connected with the event.
Such spontaneous wit and life, only he can provide to a song.

I liked the last part more where SPB has voiced his true opinions about the current state of TFM:
It has become a fashion to introduce newcomers to sing in a language alien to them to set tunes.
They have no basic knowledge of music, no diligence to learn but are ready for the mike. Some of them go off-key with an equally ignorant director incapable of detection or correction. During our heyday, we too sang in different languages not our own. Yesudas, Janaki, Chitra and myself. But then we make it a point to know what we are singing and learn the language. My fear is that mediocrity might become the order of the future if this trend continues. Creative work is best achieved only in the hands of persons with proper grooming in the field.
I sympathise with the present generation of singers who lack guidance and are floundering. I only wish this purple patch will not last long.
