I remember IR's interview in Kalki magazine ,way back 1979,where he had mentioned 'mayile mayile' , as the song he liked among his recent compositions, set in Hamsadhwani raagam.

Tu hai raja, main hoon rani was written by PBS and sung by SJ as you mentioned.

Jency, who usually squeals in songs has sung Mayile, ... in a childish voice, with lot of charm.
Talking about PB Srinivas, there was a good interview in thIrAnadhi (http://www.kumudam.com/theeranadhi) April issue. It is not possible to link this article. But, a good read. You need a login for Kumudam. He writes in 8 languages (Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, English). Has published a book titled 'pranavam' - unique effort with his poems in 8 languages!! Multifaceted, talented, versatile, polyglot, mellifluous, .... I run out of gas.
mounamE paarvayai is a gem.

PBS sounds like IR-aa? Somebody is going to be really pleased, and somebody terribly hurt. :-)

PBS sounds like a tired, sleepy, groggy horse (metaphorically speaking ofcourse, all you war mongers go sip on something pleasant now). A fetching melody with very fluid tabla beats from IR, although, he later copy-pasted it to great effect for "Udhayageetham paaduvaen".
Saravanan's reasoning for IR using PBS is a remarkable one. Probably the true reason. Panju might have even requested a song like "mounamae paarvayaai" which prompted IR to get PBS.
NaNdu had another Hindi song besides "Kaisae kahoon", it was a courtesan-style Hindi song by SJ, "Hum he agilae" something. The music was great, the singing...I leave to your interpretation.

You too!Reminding of Lorry Driver Rajakannu.I would vote it as the worst ever Sivaji movie closely followed by Dharmaraja and Rathapasam,Dr.Siva,Ilaya thalaimurai.Sivaji was then on a mission to lose fans like me that time.
Regarding the "macho" effect, Padmini would have given Sivaji a run for money in "Mannvan vanthanadi".

OISG - I was almost tempted to write this as soon as I saw the posting by vengayam about Lorry Driver... but hesitated. But, when there is a bouncer, why miss hitting it. I go on the backfoot and crack a late point boundary (ala Krish Srikanth on Andy Roberts in Prudential Cup Final)

Padmini is well known for her strong peNmai, and that is a compliment. A dancer needs to appear confident and in her best posture. If not she is not a good dancer. Take your shy, coy, petite, passive women and throw them out the window. Calling Padmini "macho" shows that you are a MCP.

Song of the Day: aadhi naathan kEtkindraan from Ganga Gowri.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/aadhinaathan.rm
- Saravanan writes:
‘Aadhinathan ketkkindraan’ is from Ganga Gowri. It is a lovely song set in
Sahana Ragam. A wonderful composition by MSV, and brilliantly sing by TMS
and SJ. The light brigas with which both the singers adorn the lines add so
much to this song’s eternal allure.
Padmini Pictures’ Ganga Gowri-1973 starred Gemini Ganesh, Jayalalitha,
Jayanthi, Sivakumar, Kumari Padmini and others. It was a grand mythological
in color by veteran BR Pandhulu.
The highlight of the film was, of course, MSV’s awesome semi-classical
songs. Besides Aadhinathan kettkindraan, the other songs were:
Andharangam naan arivaen- PBS-SJ- another treasured classic
Pichchaandi thannai kandu-TMS- soulful Aahir Bhairav
Azhagiya megangal vaanathil thirala-SJ- bountiful Amrithavarshini
Yenamma annamma- TMS-LRE
Aadhi Bagavan thiruvadi vaazhga- Seergazhi Govindarajan
Adi yendi amma en kanavan yaar sollava- SJ-LRE
Sahana Ragam has been featured in SOTD previously- ‘Indha veenaikku
theriyaadhu’-Rayil Sneham and ‘Engo pirandhavaraam’- Bommai. Another Sahana
SOTD wish is ‘Thithikkum muthamizhae’- from the film Devi-1968. Music by V
Dakshinamoorthi.
- The lyrics for the song is by Kannadasan.

mannavan vandanadi song: whenever i listen to this good song, i remember the kodumai experience of me in CBE. Tk kala Tk kala - nnu oru singer gave a performance. alongwith her mother. Kala should hv sung her songs. instead tried many P suseela song. one was mannavan. she sang like this: mannvan vandhanadihi thozihi... she adds 'hi' for evrrry word. her mother sang manorama songs. avanga oottula pada vendiya paataiyellam stage-il. kodumai program.
porale ponnu thaayi: swarnalatha can sing fast songs vry well. aattama paatama is an example. But ARR give her only azhumoongi songs. even in Bharatiraj's eera nilam, she sang one sad song. why ARR use her like this

MCP - Is it Microsoft Certified Programmer?
Adinathan - This was one song which i could not place or locate for a long time.I heard this song very recently at a friend s place.A real stunner. All along i had been under the impression that the best TMS-SJ duet was "Kadhalin " from Pookari. It needs a review after listening to this song.
Sahana , the raga used to bring out the "Karunya Rasa" and used for singing Vrithams and slokas has been used by MSV for this duet. With a strong KVM duet in Veera Abimanyu sung by PBS-PS, MSV has chosen the more "macho" (??? Habit) TMS to erase the faintest resemblances of an earlier Sahana.SJ provides an ideal foil and you could visualise the heroine doing the "Thoduthufying AraLi poo".
This raga has the unique lakshanam and even people who do not have a Carnatic music knowledge can pick it up.So the MDs have to take greater efforts to make their song unique without traces of an earlier Sahana song.
BB,nice amend!(I would have been happy even if it is Andharangam naan ariven by PBS! from the same movie)

OISG, I echo your sentiments on "Andarangam Naan Ariven"- beautiful song with the fast paced trademark alaap of SJ being the highlight (do you remember her similar and even more laudable effort in Chinnanchiriya.. in Kunkumam?).
"Azhagiay Megangal' from the same movie must also be good as SJ picked it as her favourite song in Amritavarshini in a recent interview.

How I missed it the first time around. Maybe because it was not my PBS favourite. But now that Naaz mentioned it , I went back & could not believe my eyes-- even in democracy where everyone is entitled to his opinion --- there should be a limit. even a stuttering ,stammering , sore throated PBS would rout IR. How could you bb. In the good old days people lost their lives for far less. I am breathing fire thro'y nostrils as i type this ;-)
Udaya ,pigs have wings but do horses sing? ,groggy or otherwise!!.
Venkat & OISG, The point is even in a sivaji dud u will find a spark usually. Of course to find it I will not see LDR a second time. Nor would you so you have to believe what I said that there is a spark out there somewhere waiting to be discovered.
bb,
PBS's song should be Entha Oor enbavane or Roja malare Rajakumari. do this & the fatwa will be revoked!

saravanan - ungaLukkumA antha sOthanai? I remember TKK et al came to Kumbakonam once. She started the program with 'mAnikka vINaiyEthum' (she should be having a particular score to settle with PS or should be all out to bring her glory by showing how not to sing her song). Immediate retort from the crowd when she paused at "thEn thamil solleduththup paada vanthEn" was "ammmaaaa, theriyAma paada vanthuttInga, thayavu seithu Odidunga" - the whole crowd erupted into great laughter. She was shocked.
BB - good song this one. I could only recall antharangam from this movie. TMS - SJ combination is a potential TNT bomb, both of them are absolutely capable of overdoing and killing the melody. It is one of those days when they were behaving themselves, I guess :)
BTW, Gemini gave a 'divine' performance balancing a wife and a mistress in this movie. Set industrial standards on portraying bigamus coquetry and later any director would say " aamaam producer sir, engitta oru reNdu poNdatti kathai irukku, Gemini saar call sheet vangidunga".

OISG,
Among the Sivaji torturers, you left out 'rOjaavin raajaa', 'avan oru sariththiram' , 'chitraa pourNami' and 'dharmam engE?'.
Talking of 'LD raajaakkaNNu', I am tempted to recall the famous dialogue which Sivaji delivers at Sripriya, as a customer in her restaurant:
" reNdu idli, oru vada, koNdaa!"
