6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

Yo! people show some respect, I must give credit to rehman he has done a perfectly good album. The people in india may not accept such sophisticated music but I bet this movie will become a massive hit combined with direction of mani and rehmans arts. The very first time when I heard the tracks I too was not impressed by jana gana, the rest were awesome,...eventually I came to realize it was fantastic.
Adnans song "nenjam ellam" will be the greatest hit out of all, rehman has done a perfect crafting of music in this album and I really hope the people out there will accept it positively. What rehman trying to say in this piece of music is that he is flowing with the world as it grows at a higer level..the instruments and rythms has made it outrageous.
As we all know he likes to try new music on every albums of his..you may have noticed that.
Rehman keep up the good work! God Bless

AE is absolutely fine and working well with ppl..... it is just a bit ahead of times with ARR breaking concepts of pallavi, anupallavi, charanams and stuff in songs like nanba and fanah......some ppl. cannot digest that.... it is understood....... ARR has satisfied my longing for a true fast paced,single-beat,psycological song in fanah........i really used to loong for such a song in tamil.......

I also dont want him to do Hindi ovies except maybe period movies and Ramu and his Boys movies. He shud branch out as a full blown international composer like Enigma, Deep Forest, Jean Michel Jarre and do somealbums
However I am saying he shud also do selective Indian films like period films such as Bhagat Singh, Lagaan and some good slick movies like that of Ram Gopal Varmas. Also crossover movies by Indians would be a good idea.

and then what, V?
listen to a cetain group of people smugly saying "Now ARR's not even getting offers in tamil. He's outta contention"??
We cant jus generalise Tamil directors like this, can we? We have one of the most brilliant ones in Mani Ratnam. Shankar, Gautham Menon are good too. So there's bound to be directors who's films dont have a bit of logic in them!
Exactly the way it is in Mumbai.
For every Ramu, we still have a David Dhawan. It jus cannot be changed. What we are doing here, is taking Rahman's genius for granted and expecting him to come up w/ masterpieces in every single album. His musical output is directly related to the director's vision.
While he comes up w/ brilliant albums for serious films where the directors are extremely sure of what they want, we must also give him the opportunity to let his hair down (Ok.. he's shaved it.. :) it's bound to grow back! ). Albums like Boys, E20U18, New.. U can clearly see he's enjoying himself.
If he limits himself to the movies u've mentioned, ppl will start associating him w/ serious music (the same way Bala's now associated w/ tragedies!). He's the one who's breaking all grounds in TFM. He's the one who's taking our Indian Music to it's next dimension. He's the one who's reinventing sound. Why dont we just let him do it? :)

V,
you said,
"My only disappointment with AE was that ARR shud not have given such an album to tamil films. I dont think our music industry has matured itself out of the male males, o podus, manmatha rasas to deserve an album like AE. "
Is this some kind of Thangar Bhachan kind of statement or what?
I have heard some cra ppy songs become a hit in the US/UK. All because of the lyrics being catchy or has some objectional element or some kind of a fun song. Personally I dont see anything in
"male males, o podus, manmatha rasas". But thats part of the society. Everyone has their taste.
I dont think AE is a great album as you potray. It is good and has some wonderful elements. There are much more better albums in terms of creativity (in any form of music) in TFM history. I think you assume all the tamil guys other than you (or few people in this forum) could not differntiate between a quality and so-called quality tracks. There are alot of people who appreciate good music. Its quite apalling to say that only quite a few appreciate good music. I have seen alot of ARR songs which deserve to get appreciated gets appreciated. The problem is with the fans of any MD, who exaggerate some good songs into great ones. I think ARR deserves to go international and he already has. If he wants to hold back some good songs for his international albums, he would already have.

Nice comments. What I am saying is that people like Ramu and Mani(Mani in particular) are going too fats too soon. ARR to is in this circle. I am saying that these people have to wait a little bit until the maturity of the audience changes over the years. These people give sophisticated films and music that are way ahead of it times and expext them to be hits right away. Thats not going to happen. That will happen only when you give time to the makkals and let them grow and be aware and get into a position where they undesrtand different movies.
Right now they still make mass songs a hit. I have a hope that this will decrease to some extent and make way to different songs. But it takes time and I dont want these artists and MDs to waste their films/tuns on something that is bound to fail now. I would hae been happier if ARR put his tunes in the right place. An album like AE would have gone better with a film tageted to crossover international audience. Thats just my view.
ARR knows people like Shekar Kapur etc who can help them find thebest places to put their tune to. I am being like KB and expressing my view that these people need a sped breaker. They are trying to experiment and re-invent things too soon and are expoecting them to bear results. But they very well shud know that the tunes that stil find attention are the mass tunes. Right or wrong is not the issue. It is a fact that the songs I mentioned have been hits for mass reasons. If ARR and Mani had taken a pragmatic approach they shud have waited on this one and shud have given more importance to mass elements and songs with lyrics " yen ennai kavignannai matrinai", "un zhagil nan ennai karaithen" kind of lyrics which still are viewed normal these days.
YEa there are songs with bul*lshit lyrics in US/UK. ut at the same time Europe has some very good and consistent composers who score trance/techno with soul in it. Also movies like Run Lola Run have amazing techno music and they make an impact. Those are the kinds of movies I would love ARR to do. Its just putting your tune in the rught place. All IMHO of course
