Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Vijay, Geeth & others:
Please see the 'mp3 songs of IR thread', hope your wish is fulfilled :))
Reg. Idhaya mazhaiyil, Sriram Lakshman told me something hilarious:
He was at school in Coimbatore when Aalukkoru Aasai was released, and he was strongly attracted to this song. One day while a class was going on, SL started humming the first interlude ( he hummed it to me as well over the phone, without missing a single note, simply amazing !!). But the master was not impressed, and little SL was chucked out of class. And an impenitent SL went out muttering about people having no ear for music:))

A Nice Song which I've heard in Ceylon Radio Long back
Spl Kudos to Saravanan For Reminding .
Asusual PS & KJY have sung superbly
the PS & KJY duets always mesmerize
samples MAampoove siru mainave, Kanni raasi en raasi, Vizhiye Kadhai ezhudhu, Kannan oru kai kuzhandai etc.
IR gave some classic tunes in his early films & SOTD is one of those.
btw who is the lyricist?

Most of the "Diction"discussions went over my big yet empty head .Are the following discussions in pipeline?
1.Impact of Engels,Marx on Sivappu Malli Chandrasekar's role
2.Role of Van gough & Picasso and their impressionist paintings in defining Mohan's role in enipadigaL or amitab s role in Painter Babu
3.Neville cardus's influence on the script of Padhai marinaal or on Adhitya Pancholi s role in a Dev Anand movie.
Agree to the fact that for a song to pass the "Test of time' needs so many factors that include flawless pronounciation, a single factor that on its own cannot make a song immortal (for eg Angamellam thangamo by SG in vazhayadi vazhai)IMHO i go by the leading factor which drives the whole song which could be one of the following factors:
1.the basic tune (For eg Chandrodayam oru pennanatho or Oru Naal unnodu oru NaaL)
2.the interludes (Poongathevey thaL thiravai)
3.the picturisation (Muqabula or Oorvasi )
4.The script which drives the whole song and then the film (Silar sirippar)
5.The extraordinary singing (Kana kanum kangal mella /Aana Kaana/muthai tharu)
6.the lyrics (Aatuvithal yaar oruvar)
7.The character development (Mouname paarvayai or Malai pozhuthin)
8.Simply Sivaji (Yaar antha nilavu) (of course Simran too!-Manam virumbuthey)
I need to clearly prioritise as i do not look for great lyrics in a Simran song(She is ofcourse a KadavuL ezhuthiya Kavithai!).
This song (KJY/KSC)has an very good hummable tune set in a good raga.I prefer not be remeber some vague Kannada dancer with an immobile face and Suhasani(or is it Suhasini?) or the man behind the picturisation whose perversions are nobody s secret or the film which is at best a Thulabaram of the 80s or not-so-great lyics by Vaali which has been written over the tune. This purely a tune to be enjoyed for IR s elegance and nothing more.

vengayam,
Let me try to interpret OISG's famous last para :-)
As per OISG, basic tune is the spinal cord of any song and yesterdays SOTD passed in that aspect with good marks.
Kannada dancer - the male who acted in that song,
man behind the picturisation - K.Balachander??,
Thulabaram of the 80s - manadhil urudhi vendum resembles thulabaram, suhasini or average lyrics doesnt affect him.Tune wins.
Sad that 'diction' or 'pronounciation' doesnt come in OISG's list :-)

As a veteran of past debacles, some of which I foolishly aggravated, and a victim of recent ones such as the "diction" one, I have a simple plea to all. Can we all find a graceful way to step out of these in the future? As regular readers of this beloved thread can a few of the uninvolved parties hold up a timeout card and request the hot and bothered ones to take it offline or to e-mails? It really is a shame to endure such cantankerous posts and rebuttals. We all have our favorites and pet peeves and are even known for it here. But when one of us harks on it beyond a couple of posts it takes a toll on everybody.
This was one of the few threads that was a lock for light reading, informative discussions and dare I say it, genuine camaraderie. As hard as it was to get this thread to where it is now, it's harder still to maintain it if we don't put a leash on our self-indulgence.
I applaud rags on her gentle prod to end the digression. I wish one of us had thought of this earlier. There's no upside on being stuck on a stalemate discussion. I don't think Samuel Johnson or Wren and Martin talked grammar at their corner pub. At least I hope not. I demand a twofer to make up for the lost fun and make it a funny one if you can, bb.

OISG,
without the kOnar notes from our tran-siberian traveller, i understood at that instance what you wrote in that "famous" last para.
i was bit confused when u said "the man behind the picturisation". I was confused why OISG is so against a very good cameraman raghunatha reddy. But when i read "whose perversions" immediately i understood without any "??"s.
You could have very well given it as "the pervert behind the picturisation" (or) "the man with a slate-n-bulpam behind the picturisation".

It could only be my fault to choose to engage with a group of people who are low on concept and understanding and high on hostility and intellectual cowardice.

This statement proves Naaz's enormous arrogance and infinite intolerance towards any person who might disagree with him on any issue whatsoever, even slightly. It also proves his inability to interact pleasantly with others over the net.

Naaz:
The sentence that AV has quoted from your text shows your absolute disregard for the capacity of the fellow DFers who were discussing with a bleak hope that even if you were not ready to buy their arguements, you would atleast make a respectable presence. It peeves me to see such an 'honest' discusion (as u put it) degenerating into a war of words soaked in condescension. Deft articulation, IMO, does not in any way give any license to anybody who intends truly to indulge in a proper discussion, to denigrate the opponents with such utterly derisive and disrespectful comments. If at all you proved a few points in such a long discussion in such a bombastic tone, they are the display of your own inability to keep up a discussion without a superciliuos attitude towards the fellow people and inability to accept an irrefutable proof which went against your assumed norms.
Guys, I assure there won't be any more discussion pertinent to this matter from my side from now.

Let me clarify the misunderstanding of that particular statement, MS (and others.)
The "group of people" I was referring to were those discussants who demonstrated blatant hostility toward me (personally) in that particular exchange (despite my commitment to explain with patience and examples.) To me that specificity was obvious, but I could have done better.
My statement was not directed at those who were civil, or those who did not participate.
I can only regret and apologise for that ambiguity.

Finally I got to listen to the SOTD. It's a great feeling when you think you're about to hear a song for the first time until the first few words when you instantly recognize having heard it before. A very unique song for IR. It sounds like a song designed with KJY in mind. I had been thinking this was a Salil Chowdhry song from the same movie as "ullamellaam thallaaduthae".

This "elegant" song i remember seeing only once on oliyum oliyum with Muthuraman and the lively Jayachitra on the swing. this song just was one of the most magical songs of my childhood days, also because it reminded me of Salil' malayalam songs that had great effect in my early teens, that april sunshine, that sentimental evenings at the school annual events, having a vaniall ice cream in a glass cup in a restaurant canopy, then those annual holidays from school - very sentimental song. only thing KJY did his best to not try his usual stunt and failed stupidly in the charanam. (This became a PS song for me, though KJY carried the pallavi as if made for him) But, i vividly still recall those days gentleman actors Muthuraman by this song, Jaisanker by that super Veda song, Sivakumar by the Oru Naal Unnodu Oru Naal. Those were the days of talent and pure unadulterated joy and Idhaya Mazhayil was one of the highlights!
Since that Oliyum oliyum I heard it once a while on the radio (when i did not listen to music much). as i was reaching my "old age" i searched recording shops but failed miserably. I found a recording on a Yesudas CD just a few years ago by accident. Aalukkoru Aasai, what can I say!

Udhaya, i thought the start of the song resembled "nandhavanaththil vandhak kuyilE", with an octave down :)
