Yaar yaarku award kodukkunumne oru vevesthe ilaame pochu!!!!!
Whether he is south/north/tamil/telengu or punjabi does not really matter.
One has to look at what contribution one has made in his field to deserve any award.
Eg.music - composing & producing original music which can be diversified but yet preserves the indian heritage.
Everybody knows the modus operandi of ARR
- gathering several tunes from other composers and remixing them.
Now if he gets an award, then what about DEVA, anu malik alike....
An artist like ARR will never get recognised in the west. Critics will shoot them down.An don't
even dream of awards even though they might able to sell their music ( in the name of freedom )
There are many talented and upcoming musicians in india. IT IS A DARK DAY FOR THEM All.
OF all things said one might ask why then they give the award to ARR.
SImple : COrrupption which is rampant in India has now crept into ARTs by Politicians just to please their cronies!!!!

IR doesn't have a vote bank but he has fans which he cannot turn them in to votes and he doesn't comment about politics. But Superstar in other hand has fans and they can be converted in to votes and he comments about politics whenever he gets a chance. So Kalaignar would rather recommend Superstar for Padmabushan.

I presume Regional Politicians like MK & JJ do not have much to recommend for such awards. Else, our Diamond would have got Bharat Ratna (probably twice) by now. Anyway, awarding such awards to Rajini & ARR is sheer politicking.

Jana,
Your reason for the award to Rajni is very plausible. BJP guys are dyed in the blue (or saffron) po.liticians

What makes you think that he won't get recognition in the west? He's worked with more popular artists from the West than anyone else in India. And can you please name all the originals from ALL his songs? We'd also like to know them. .

one thing our former prime minister said about indians and tamils in particular that we dont need guards and dogs to watch them as they will expose and kill each other. saad to see such scathing attacks on a young tamilan who earned an award given by a northern govt ir is dead and gone pl. dont waste time on a old dog for you cannot teach it new tricks

Looks like you've rated all the df'ers as `dog trainers':-)
Okay, agreed, you've used an adage and meant musician...Well, unfortunaltely for you, none of us had trained IR, or for that matter any MD, on anything in the past, neither we can plan for that in the future:-)

Mariff..your words contradict. You say that you are sad to see the scathing attacks on a young tamilian. But you have followed it up with a scathing attack on a renowned tamilian IR. Your note would have had more value if the last line is omitted.
I sincerely doubt the tamil pattru of ARR. During Kalaignar's 75th birthday celebration in 1998, ARR sang the hindi version of Vande Matharam. I dont see the need to sing a hindi song in such a function. May be that is one of the reasons for this award to him!!!.

Any intelligent music lover shd hang his head in shame to see poor A.R.R. getting clobbered like this.It is really sad to see such stupid sweeping statements which dont have objectivity in them.Guys, you are talking about a musician who has earned the respect of world class musicians, both Indian&international-and at his age, isnt it remarkable? Now if you are unable to appreciate his music, remember that the fault could be entirely yours-probably you are stuck somewhere-loosen up and open out, man.I for one thoroughly enjoyed the I.R of the eighties& am enjoying the A.R.R. of the nineties. Both are trendsetters in film music and both deserve only the highest praise from us.Now dear A.R.R bashers what has he done so much to yr lives to deserve the garbage that you dole out to him.And what are your credentials? If you feel that you are better than A.R.R then go-the doors of Kodambakkam are open to anyone, create a music score, get a Grammy and then the world will listen to you.And remember if you cant appreciate A.R.Rs music the fault could be entirely yours and you could be missing something.

I don't know whether he deserves the award. But ARR is certainly a nice thing to happen to Indian Music industry. Lets feel proud of him and his achievements. That doesn't mean one shouldn't critcize him. But let it be contructive and healthy discussion.

Hello Genuine Musician,
Your posting does not sound that you are true to 'Genuine Name'.It is good that you have vented out your angry sentiments against ARR's critics. It will be also better if you could substantiate your point of view from a few films for which Music has been scored by ARR.Your arguments should be sound and substantial which means merey saying this song from this film and that song from that film are hits cannot be accepted as sound arguments. Could you please justify your anger by bringing out what exactly is the unique contribution of ARR to Music-only Music and not to mention about sound engineering.
Cheers
Denis

Could anyone of you tell me who is the moderator of this group, please? For one, I don't understand this morbid fascination with putting up topics like "ARR wins Padmashri" only to have it turn into ARR vs IR. We all know what is going to be the focus of the "discussion".I mean, what is it with some of you guys in this group? Are you so insecure about ARR's success? I have listened to Hey Ram and a couple of the songs were absolutely mindblowing and the rest were OK. I can easily admit that I listened to those couple of songs umpteen times and love IR's music even as i say that I am an ARR fan. It is just a question of personal preference. I have also listened to Karthik Raja's and YSR's songs and like some of them very much. It doesn't have to be either / or---just enjoy what all these talented guys are giving you. And for those who start any discussion with some snide comment on ARR being a sound engineer etc etc, may I ask-- WHO ARE YOU? I mean, what exactly have you achieved in music apart from tagging your name onto IR as his fan? You are just making yourself look so cheap and pathetic--sorry to say. Just shut up and get your mind out of the rut that has set in. None of these great people need your "input". They are far too accomplished for that. ARR is now moving on to the international scene, irrespective of what YOU think his prospects are. He may or may not make it--lets see but YOU are NOWHERE IN THE PICTURE, in either case. IR, YSR, KR and others are also making waves their own way. After hey ram , i am sure IR will have a comeback and I am looking forward to it cos it will be interesting and highly rewarding for music lovers to have ARR and IR and others in peak form! The discussions in this group have absolutely NO BEARING whatsoever on what they do. If you think IR is actually looking into TFMs "discussions" and feeling pleased with you for being his fan and for bashing ARR, please think again. Don't be so naive and stupid. So,stop thinking of yourselves as some damn flag bearers and just enjoy things. Let this forum be a place where we can discuss interesting aspects of MDs and introduce each other to what we think is a good song. I listened to YSR's poovellam ketuppar after seeing a reference to it in this group and I liked the songs--especially poove poove and irava pagala. I also love Karthik Raja's Ullasam. I have also gone ahead and recommended the same to members of the ARR fan club that I am a member of.
STOP SPEWING VENOM---just enjoy.
and stop bringing "tamil vs hindi" issues here, ok? Vande mataram is a song with national fervour and i would expect that people listen to it with due regard. I am a tamilian myself and i dont see anything wrong in him singing in hindi if he wants to. If all you can see and care about is the fact that it was sung by him in hindi, then what can i say about your priorities. You are just losing out on some fun.
This group used to be good when I first got introduced to it. There was a lot of variety to it. There were sections like song of the month that were updated "monthly!" with detailed analysis of a song etc. Nowadays, the site doesn't appeal at all--the only thing i notice is these irrelevant discussions coming up where most of what i see is mindless frustration and arm chair criticism. Sorry, i just think i am better off not visiting you again. It is just too painful to see such narrow mindedness towards someone who is so talented, humble and accomplished.
I am sure this last line is going to fetch some more brickbats from some people in this group but well, I don't expect anything different from this group nowadays anyways.
bye

music must not be contained by language it should transcend all barriers and Ir's is limited and if one has a decent system ( i do )you cannot hear hey ram the recording is wanting and his biggest mistake was kamal that guy should be banned from singing. most ir's music has no bass only mids and highs . it is like a guy wearing short pants for a party! kannukul nilavu was excellent but in his usual style. that song sung by jesudas is the best. ir has gone out of fashion but he will be remembered for his contribution. was great during his hey days!!
