  hyped....a fellow tamizan got awards by just saying, that he scored music for some philharmornic, alas it ended up that it is nothing (but just wind!)
  Which is a hype...I do not know.
  
  When another fellow tamizian gets an award after releasing some good work (for his country), he is being called names and even the award is not respected,
  and few talk Patriotism! here, good joke.

  Congrats to ARR for the Padma Shri award.
  
  I know that it will sound like 'Sour Grapes' but not receiving the award is not a disgrace for IR. Did the government ever honour Sivaji with the Best Actor award? The awards committees are always a joke. Like Twain said,'A camel is a horse designed by a committee'.

  this raja trashing came after waiting for almost 2 days, many started to claim and degrade the award. Same thing happened when MS.Subhalakshi got award.
  
  for a musician, (I dont care it is raja or arr or any one!) even one word from a fan is a great award. eg:if some one emails me about my simple thoughts! alubm...i keep thinking about it for about a month!...
  
  
  Better talented are not given awards - agreed!, this is not the place to bring it up,

  When somebody gets an award there are bound to be different views. ARR getting 'Padmashri' should be appreciated even if you are a fan of IR.
  
  IR not getting it, or for that matter Shivaji not getting it is a different subject. One thing is clear. In any field, be it music, drama even our profession (software), people do have to understand that you have to project your work properly. I have learned this from one of my bosses who said, "it is 10% work and 90% projection". Being talented alone is not enough, got to project it without being arrogant. IR needs help in this area.
  
  ARR is a smart guy or is supported by smart, savvy marketing guys. He has planned his career pretty well. The right focus on albums, the right mixture and the game plan to stay on top with quality committments. IR could have done this in his prime, the 80's !!!(Maybe!!)
  
  The 90's and the new millennium will be sheer marketing and presentation. Don't we see that in "Hey Ram".. Kamal is doing everything possible to get the media, the fans, the world turns their heads.

  Arasu,
  I have to disagree with you on the projection part. In software we have to 'project' out products/solutions not because we want recognition but only to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the competition. It basically helps the customer choose one vendor over the other.
  I dont think this is the case in certain fields. For eg. will you not 'project' yourself to get a Nobel Prize. John Grisham's novels are 'marketed' heavily but it does not mean it will win a Pulitzer award.
  Music is an entertaintment industry. But you have to agree it is also intellectual work. Most times intellectuals are left alone doing their job and it is upto the rest of the society to honor/recognise them. So we got to put together a system which recognises good people.

  When those that should have been recognized years ago are overlooked, isn't that kind of degrading the award. Like MS said, when all these people have been ignored all these years, what is the worth of this award.
  
  Congrats to ARR. I personally don't feel that he deserves this award right now. I had already given my views of "Vandemataram". If all that is required to get an award such as this is to take some classic 'patriotic' song and then reproduced it so that intelligent, westernized young indians can dance around like mad and sing at the top of their lungs, then I my suggestion to musicians who wish to be recognized is "RUN fast and grab some classic song". If the 'Bharathiar' album turns out like another 'Vande Maatharam', thamizh thaii(not me) will haunt ARR forever:-)
  
  Ok, now, IR fans don't gloat, and ARR fans, don't get steamed up. By now, I think you all would know that my opinions aren't from bias.

  Just out of curiosity. I was told ARR is a Keralite, atleast that's what many Malayalee's say. Is that true? Vandavarai vaazhavaikkum thamizhagame, nee vaazgha. Congrats to ARR. He is too intelligent to produce some albums like Vande Maatharam, Jan Gan etc etc., It is all in the game of making money maan. Why bothering much?
  'Kaattrullapothe thootrikkol'. This is applicable to ARR, Bharat Bala and all.
  
  By the by ARR talks about music. He says something like music is becomming a sort of 'noise' in India. (I certainly agree with him after his entry in cine field).

  In the Capital to release his latest `patriotic' music video Jana Gana Mana 2000 - a Bharatbala and Kanika production - Rahman expressed his discomfiture with the increasing `noise' in Indian music. ``It is very easy to produce noise today. To take a medley of instruments and go dhak-chik-dhak-chik. All this may seem very cool when you listen to it the first time. But then it gets irritating and nobody wants to buy,'' he laments.
  
  ``Today, there is a need to infuse a soul in the technically savvy Indian pop music,'' he explains. But for that musicians need to work much harder. ``It is fairly simple to compose a thumri on a raga but to combine a technological arrangement into a composition that is both soulful and longer living takes more time and patience. Even when I do a song, it seems like noise first. But then, I remove things, add so many new elements and don't let it go out of the studios unless it gets a soul,'' he explains.

  Awarding Padmashri to ARR has got lot of politics behind it. The award is given to ARR to appease the minority to show that BJP govt does not have any discremination against any religion. Besides, it upkeeps the integrity of our country. Guys, believe me, it has no relevance to his talent at all whatsoever. If the award is given based on one's talent, many of our Music Directors in the past should have got it.
  
  Padmabushan to Rajini? Again it is politics to please our Superstar to support BJP in the coming days. I may sound crazy! but that's the reality. Otherwise, I don't see any reason awarding Padmashree to ARR and Padmabushan to Rajini Kanth, when we have much better talented, contributed artists. Guys, Please do not misunderstand me that I am against ARR or Superstar Rajinikanth, but I am against the rationality behind giving these awards by the Govt.

  appadi paaarththal jana, IR is always crossing faces with JJ. HE is pretty close to kalaignar too. HE could have easily won it through a recommendation from MK (just the way Rajni) did. On the other hand, I think ARRperformed for JJ in the grand marriage and hope he is in her good books. This should indeed mean he must not have got the award..
