I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

There's news that Kamal's trying to get Raja to do music for Krihnaleela (or is it Rasaleela?). According to the news, Raja is yet to accept the offer. Hope he does.
Another blip of a news says Gowthamy is the heroin in Krishnaleela.

But Engal ANna is a classic film that appeals to only a unique audience.
You have to have the ability to laugh at anything and everything if u wanna call that film a laughter riot.
The most humorous part was when he did the famous Thangachi sentiment!

That's nothing but a decades-old technique of skewing cameras color balance, and using a filter to remove unwanted colours.
You attach a filter to the camera lens to colour balance and get effects like this (basically I think "yellow" is used to give the blue effect which seems to give a night look, even though I personally feel it does not conceal the "Artificial" efefct it brings to the screen. Where in teh night do you see things in shades of blue?
It can further be enhanced in the post-production stage. The trick is not to show too much of the sky in the scenes.
Refer to Roja's chase sequence in the snow (where Arvind Swamy escapes and rolls over the slopes).. It is evident that it was shot in the day and a filter was used to make it look like a night scene.
There was an ugly filter effect used in Thiruda Thiruda (Kannum Kannum song, Raasathi song, as well as some other scenes), where you will see a gradient Yellow and orange colour appearing. Thats done using a gradient blue filter. It looked so artificial.
In the film Traffic, director Steve Soderbergh gave different locations specific color tones. Scenes in Washington D.C. had cold blue tones, San Diego area were warm with gold overtones. Again, Mani Ratnam uses this technique in almost all his films, most notably in Dalapathy.
In Virumandi, the night scene (Onna Vida song) almost looked like it was done as an after-thought. Also, remember the stills of the "alli kuLam' scenes, which were day shots?

Rasika,
Whats your point?
I personally commend the use of bluw filters by Mani Ratnam. The roja scene was just brilliant and it gave a cold appearance further enhanced by the snow slopes.
It is not the use of the filters alone but the imagination that goes into how it can be used for what scenes.
Onna Vida is a great example of its intelligent use!
Most hollywood movies use filters and the younf suspense master of hollywood M Night Shyamalan has expressed his love for filters in an Intw.

is balaji review an oscar commitee??
SOme of the ratings are so dumb there. I think its is just an opinionated piece of review by an NRI who has roots to madras and tamil movies. One of the million juntas in USA.
THAts it! Not any more valid than ur opinion or my opinion

that holds good for any review.Any review is purely a personal opinion and just because that guy is an NRI doesnt necessarily add to anything. For eg, just because SIFY rates a movie Very good doesnt necessarily mean that it is junta's opinion.

For those who are interested in knowing what Kalki magazine has said about IR's music in Virumandi review, I reproduce here verbatim
"Isaiyai yeppadi payanpadutha vendum enbathai katru tharuvadhu pol kadhai sollum paadalgalaiyum, pinnani isaiyaiyum thandhirukiraar Illayaraaja". The movie has also been awarded Distinction.

The Oscar comite is based on the opinion of the media the panel of 50 directors drafted in the oscar comittee.
I would rather listen to the aggregated opinion of experienced film-maker than a person like one of us who personally judges movies.
I am just sayinhg Balaji's opinion is not more valid or invalid than your opinion or my opinion or that of anyone here. It is an opinion of a person who runs his own website. Even media reviews that are written by single person are somewhat uned to objectivity since magazines reach bigger audiences. But yes thee are exceptions like Outlook and India FM which are highly opinionated!

Looks like the movie is doing great business.
