  there are 2 versions of the song "senthoor murugan ". one is the most popular version by PBS& Susila. "kaNgaLiraNdai vElena eduththu"

  Actually, you are right and I hvnt been able to contribute much to the forum in the last year. There are four reasons for this viz.
  
  1. Kannan Pirandhan Chellak Kannan Pirandhan Manak Kavalaligal Parandhadamma
  
  Actually, I should say Radha Pirandhal not Kannan. ;-) My 10 month old daughters name is Sreya.
  
  2. Also, I switched jobs and there is lot more work.
  
  And thirdly, the forum has practically become IR vs ARR thread. It got to a stage that whatever be the topic, IR vs ARR is the underlying theme. ;-)I think many of the old timers like Kanchana, NOV etc. kind of withdrew to some extent too because of this.
  
  And inspired by many of the short stories posted in the forum hub, I am also trying my hand at writing. Not much success, yet. One day...
  
  I still browse now and then, at a much reduced frequency. Once a week , maybe. Hopefully, now that you hv come, the forum will move onto other areas too. I do fervently hope so!

  I have just opened a new account at a video centre where they have many old titles in vcd format. The thought of enjoying crystal clear movies is so exciting. I feel like a child in a toy shop. :-))

  Nov: Try some old Vijaya movies bilinguals without fail. Missiamma, Maya Bazaar, Manidhan Maravillai etc. Also try some of the other Telugu flavor movies like Manalane Mangaiyin Bhagyam if you can get them. Let me know if VCDs are available.

  BTW, thanks for the list, but pre-60s movies-na enakku konjam allergy. Even the songs too.
  I just watched The Parent Trap and now want to watch the Tamil version. What are the songs in Kuzhaindaiyum Deivamum?

  From a old songs list my brother had prepared many years back,
  "Angal Manamae Appadithan Adu Adikadi Marum Ippadithan...." is from the film "Naan valarththa Thangai". May be Sathya Kabali can verify this.

  One of My all time favorite old song is 'saddi sudathada kai padathada'...a great song by TMS. But have any of you heard this really really old song by gandasaala and Jikki(?). It goes like this 'vaanmeethilea vanna'. I don't have a version but always sit and listen when it plays on the radio. I like songs by PB Sreenivas. I would say of all the olden day male singers, his voice was the best, like today's SPB. His songs such as 'Kaalangalil' are great.

  Yes, Kishore. As the story goes, IR liked this "Vaan meethile" so much that he requested MSV to compose a tune with the same metre. If you notice, even the charanams start with the same metres till "oru murai yenum".
  
  Was listening to "Thesulavuthe then malarale" from "maNalane mangayin baaggiyam" sung by Ghantasala and PS. Superb singing, super composing by Adi Narayana Rao. This was first made in Telugu,next Tamil and later in Hindi too. Rafi and Lata have not done complete justice to this tune or atleast their version paled in comparison to the Tamil, Telugu versions.
  
  The song has 4 stanzas, each with a different tune,each beautifully linked back to the Pallavi.Comments please....

  Have fun singing Vaan meethiley in Vaa vennilaa tune and vice versa. :-))
  IR has done this on stage many times.
  But to tell the truth, if he had not done it, I would have failed to recognise the similarity.

  Yappaa! Ennapa ithu! I was watching a recent 'sapthaswarangal' program and a girl sang that song. Of course, she won the first prize for that! But honestly, I rewinded the tape about 25 times just to hear the song. An amazing classical piece. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a chance to listen to the entire song. I wonder if someone has it on the net. You can't get these old gems in Canada very easily!

  Kanchana, seems to be so. However, the last stanza starts off in Kalyani..."Manathaippol....". Imagine Kalyani being used to express sorrow in "ThuNinthapin maname" from Devadas.

  What do you people think about the song 'Raja magal, Roja malare'. I show the song video but not the movie. I liked it a lot. The girl dancer was great. And the music was very modernish compared to other songs of that time.
  
  Also, another mesmerizing song is 'kaatrinilE varum keetham' by MS amma. She sang it as though the words were coming from her heart and not her mouth. It is an amazing number. It's from 'Meera', an old movie, not the new one with the same title. I didn't see it but have heard high praises for MS amma's work. Does anyone know how it was?
