Can any HCIRF please enlighten this poor soul?
1.How many movies have run simply because of IRs rerecording?
2.Has he managed any recognition at the state,national,Asian,international levels for his BGM ?
3.Has he won any awards (say like Filmfare,Zee ,IIFA etc ) for his BGM?( i hear Adhesh Srivatsava won a Filmfare or Zee award for his BGM in "Border")
4.Who would you rate as the other good BGM scorers at the national ,international levels? (apart from the staple answer "Nobody")-[This is just to determine where he stands vis-a-vis "Them"]
5.Why is he not getting offers to score BGM for Hollywood movies when his credentials are extraordinary as per your judgement?
6.Are there any awards instituted by our govenments for BGM ...like the ones for special effects,editing?If they exist has he won anything?If it does not why don tyou guys make a representation to the government?(But if the Governement accepts your representation and gives the award to some other MDs .....)
7.Mention some scenes wherein without his BGM the scene would have fallen flat pulling down the whole movie.
8.Are there any movies by other MDs in which the BGM was ...say..Ok!?
I shall request all non-IR fans not to post in this thread.Lets listen!

Hello All Geniusssss
Pls don't blame ARR always as if he dosen't no anything. For an information just select any ten movies of IR ok and carefully listen to the BGM that he plays during any fight, U can't differentiate it, If I close Ur eyes U can't predict the movie though u have watched it several times.
I think he fools all of U. Also the BGM dosen't match the fight at all. I found Thalabathi was better.
I bet U all guys..
I will say the name of a IR movie..
can U people list out the songs within a minute spontaneously..... heeeeeheee
Its nopt possible u may able to say for around 10 to 20 SELECTED movies.
ok...
Stop commenting others work and think of Ur future and Ur country. Thats important ....
Why can't U people can make something productive insted of commenting others....
Think and do something useful ok......
Any one can contact me in this ID chandaraama@yahoo.co.in
It may be IR or ARR or any one else in the future.
We should not compare theirs work...
For example U might be so goodlooking...
At the same time I not goodlooking ....
SOoooo
U can say Ur MOM is great and given birth to such goodlooking person at the same time u can't say my MOM is waste and given birth to such an ugly creature.
They both are mother's and U like Ur MOM an I like Mine...thats it Ur mom is neither great for me nor my mom is great for u.
u can praise U mother or anyone U like but don't degrade others likings....

Watch the music for fighting scene in Varusham 16. I think IR used miruthangam i guess. It was a very interesting piece.

vel,
"If it fits it is your luck just like Lagaan."
joke of the day....music does not come by luck or coincidence...u mean to say Iruvar, vande matharam and Kappaleri poyachu are all by luck...
dont generalise ur statement because of one reviewer... and many music fans know that chor chor was one of the better BGMs by ARR..i'm surprised that some ARR fans havent mentioned about Andhi mandharai in this forum....initially the idea of that BR was to have BGM only, but he added the two songs to the movie later... so to a few of them who asked whether ARR was used for BGM alone, this is one example...and ofcourse there was another dubbed movie for which bappi-lahari scored the songs and ARR did the BGM.. i dont remember the name of the movie...

I partly agree with vel.. he concentrates mainly on songs.. I have never heard of movies like vande matharam and kapplaeri poyachu.. Oh you mean the songs... this must be the joke of the day.. Daily 5 AM we used to listen "Vande madaram"... on trichy station.. This ARR came and murdered that vande mataram song.. one of my friend bought it and broke the CD immediately after he listened to that crap. Ok i am not that sensitive.
'Kappaleri Poyachu' is it a period song...?
Listen to
'Nan sirithal Deepavali' that is a period song..
Apart from Roja his BGMs are below par. BGM means right through the movie he should show some class. Not one or two scenes. Only annachi illayaraj can do that..
Iruvar... music totally out of place... even his songs are very ordinary.. it is not periodic.
all resemble like roja, bombay.. You think Iruvar and Anthimantharai are the best works of ARR?
That's the JOKE of the century.. Next Deva will say my best BGM is Kadhal Kottai... Sirpy will say my best BGM is Ullathai Alli Thaa.. You guys are content with mediocre BGMs? That's all i can say

Ramesh, u keep you are ur friend stories to urself... Vandhematharam was a great album and if u dont like it or understand it, it's ur ignorance alone... 'Iruvar... music totally out of place... even his songs are very ordinary.. it is not periodic'... that proves that u r more ignorant.... A periodic song is one that fits to a particular scene in whichever period that song is filmed.... not necessary that the MD has to use the same instruments that was available in that period.. Pookodiyin punnagai and Narumugaiye were two good examples and if u are not able to appreciate it, i dont care...

Hello i don't become ignorant just because i don't like vandematharam.. Just because you like it don't call those who don't like it as ignorant.
Fact is Vandemataram album sucks big time.. along with Iruvar. There are no two opinions about that..
"if u are not able to appreciate it, i dont care..."
I don't think so.. you do care... that's why you call me ignorant.. i was commenting on the album..
you are commenting on me.. that's the difference..

Ramesh, I said that if you don't appreciate it I won't care... did I say that If you criticise it I won't care? ... look at ur prev postings and see you had commented on the other person first...Again I don't want to have this peer to peer clashes on opinions and IR-ARR clashes... i have better things to do than to prove u that u r wrong..... I'm not going to respond to any thing u write...so dont waste ur time as well...

>>>ARR fans havent mentioned about Andhi mandharai in this forum
Sorry, I have mentioned about that film several times in the forum. I am the few of the previlaged to see that movie.
But there is no point in arguing when people very coolly say that Roja is the best. Oh God.

BGM Myth Buster :
IR period :
Emotional and over-dramatic storytelling was the order of the day...hence the necessity of carefully planned BGM to go with the emotions in scenes...this added the necessary drama to the scene. IR excelled in this scenario. This was his field.
ARR Period :
A more "westernised" and "urbanish" style of film-making where over-sentimentalism was shunned or at least avoided. Study the directors he has worked with...
Moreover, ARR's BGM's are minimalist in nature. Sound effects and a few instruments add the required essence to the scene. His BGM doesn't overpower the scenes but provides the necessary subtle touch.
So, like it has been said before - no use in comparing apples and oranges.
An apple may keep the doctor away..but an orange has got Vitamin C too ! :-)

cosmicfan --> apple orange does not fit here
Now coming to your Urban no over sentiment films. How many of them succeded in the recent past. If I go back and see some of the hits over the last few years you can see it,
* Azhagi
* Kaasi
* Unnai Thedi
* Thavasi
* Friends
* Dum Dum Dum
* Gemini
* Dheena
* Kandukondain ^2
* Bharathi
So most of them are senti oriented ones. Listen to the BGM of Jhonny which is a urbanish one. Thats a perfect example of how a Urbanish BGM can be done.

(Shiverrr....God...Save me & my family!!!!)
I am afraid (literally !)that my questions are still not answered.Just waiting for the meanigful and correct answers.I was eagerly awaiting a case of recognition for his BGM from someone other than the forum memebers.Trickle..trickle..Where is the ocean i was supposed to get?
Actually some of the attempted answers gives rise to more questions.If IR has really won an award for BGM alone how come some other MD also managed the same award ....considering his towering presence in the fray!Ever since the awards were instituted was he the only one to win?
Natural answer is NO!That means there are other MDs who are good at BGM.Where is the list?Hope there wont be arguments saying that the award committe faltered in all "OTHER" years.
This Agni Nakshthram BGM is terribly jacked up.Fortunately ( hope so!)managed to see the movie in SUN last week.Climax....
Had Vidyasagar done that Vikatan would have written "Please get down from the key board..you are standing on it".
