Friends,
Thiruvasakam in Symphony will come.
I left my secure pedestal to support this project for the last 12 months. It has not been easy to convince people. But it is because of the sincere enthusiasm, impeccable dedication of noble souls like SK, Seetharam Sridhar and Sridhar Bala the projet has gained momentum. For me- a Catholic priest , I have learnt a lot from these men. My experience in working with them has been spiritually humbling. That is the kind of their dedication, expecting nothing. Why? May be it is just a way of paying a little back to IR who has given us all so much? The reason for my involvement is this: Yes, I am a true lover of his music. But much more than that , it may take many more years for another genius like IR to walk our earth. Such a genius, I wonder , may not necessarily have the spirit to such a spiritual masterpiece. It is the duty of all men and women of goodwill to facilitate many more masterpieces from this great genius, for which he is capable of.

The question of spiritual music is not going to give the effect here. As his fan, i feel he is no less than "equal temparament" masters like Beethoven. The difference just is the matter of the "Cultural music" each have come from. A little mental work on why ilayaraaja cant be equal to western classical music legends can make each one understand what i'm saying. Tell me any of you why nothing but wind and how to name it didnt become poular. they were released. Never mix up your thoughts about personal ilayaraaja and music ilayaraaja. As far as i see the people above are to some extent affected by ilayaraajas way of talking in press and in general. I'm selfish! i want thiruvasakam in symphony to be released. What can i do for that, as i need it being sincere lover of music. I know ilayaraaja only can make it into great piece. I support his music and do not mix up his personality with his music ability. Think more. I dont want to say previous albums didnt come but i want this to hear. ilayaraaja will make it pleasing. I want the album and thats it. Ill work for it. Its a common music cause. Not a dejection about his previous non released albums.

Hi Fr. Jegath,
Small problem with this project is the lack of information. The official site does not say much. If that is updated regularly with whats happening, it will make everyone provide something for this cause. For example, the site still says its going to be released in 1st week of October. Can it be changed to a realistic date of release it would be better.

Dear irfan,
Your concern is very valid. This is what I got in mail today with regards to your realistic request and we want to assure you that we also share the same concerns as all of you and every effort is being taken to keep us all up-to-date on this project.
""Dearest Dr.Sankar Kumar and All,
Again very sincere apologies.
Our computer man is down with typhoid. I have sought the help of someone. I hope to do it by today.
Ir is very busy with re-recording of Pithamagan. I spent two hours in the studio yesterday. During the lunch break he was eagerly asking about the progress in the US.---Fr.Jegath""
The above is only to indicate that nothing is being hidden from the fans. In the meantime, people who are genuinely interested in this, like you and mr. @, please provide your e-mail id's to keep you all posted. I include my e-mail id each time I post here.

Of late, Sound Enginnering techniques have advanced too much. DTS, DTX and Mixing have become the order of the day. IR has not been choosy in deputing the best sound Engineers int the industry for his films. I heard his Pitha magan songs. The Songs are brilliant as usual, but the Sound Effects / Mixing is just average. Why can't IR engage some leading engineers like Sridar, Sivakumar etc for his Thiruvasagam project. You people know better. But as a ardent fan of IR for past 2 decades, i take the liberty to put forth my suggestion.

You can not confuse the quality of his studio recordings with the work he is planning to do.
If it is done, TIS will be a concert music. Such kind of music is normally recorded in performance halls/or some old churches where the natural accoustics are good. The recording will be with a single mike and it will be like what you will hear in a live performance. This is a different ball game altogether. There are experts for such kind of recordinds. In fact IR's sym # 1 was recorded in a hall like that in London and not in a studio.
Of course, I agree his film album recording quality has been pathetic always and the man never realised the value of good packaging. The end result is that you have a very haunting melody, mind boggling and powerful orchestrations but when you get to listen to them on a tape or CD you don't even get 25% of the orginal effect, feel.
But I think we are talking about this too late in the day.

Father Jegath writes as if IR has dedicated his whole life and energy for the good of the world at large without anything in return; he portrays as if the man has fallen into bad times and requires help from all and sundry. Can you believe this?
What does Jegath mean by paying a little back? Did the man do what ever he did during the past twenty five years for free?
These people create the impression that IR wants to do some thing for which he does not have the means or the locus standi to approach the orchestras/record labels in a professional way but some how he wants to achieve this; hence go around the world with a begging bowl.
Can some one like IR whom we have been having in such a high pedestal all these years stoop to this level? This is just nauseating.
And this man Jegath says that for this noble cause he has come down from his superior pedestal. Who asked you to come down Father? And if you want to promote arts and culture then you have to do it in a professional manner. Not like the way your Tamil Maiyam is trying to do….go with a “temple donation” kind of receipt books to all the towns and villages around the world; trying emotional black mail route; give back some thing in return blabh, blabh……..And in the process making IR a butt of joke.
Father Jegath, there are many successful NGOs in India who are doing a great job in promoting Indian arts and cultures. Of course, they generate funding from corporate sponsorships/govt. funding/private donations. But look at the professional way in which they do that. Compare it with the way in which you are doing; what you have not done sofar is to print bit notices and send along with the daily “Hindu” and “Daily Thanthi”. But for that you have been doing every thing. I think with people like you around, Mr. Ilaiyaraaja does not require enemies.
But the fault lies with Mr. Ilaiyaraaja also to some extent. Being a good composer and being people savvy, market savvy, are two different things. For example, Rahman. He has proved himself to be a good business savvy guy. Who can talk to people and get along. Who is open to new ideas. Always ambitious to go to the next level.
If you see his career graph, you can see the orbit shift in each step. But he is willing to compromise some thing to climb the next level. From Tamil to Hindi to independent albums; Sony connection; Weber connection; thru Sony Chinese film assignment; due to London connection now the City of Birmingham Sym Orchestra assignment for two orchestral works-one is a collection of themes from his films and another one a new work. Now he is ready to climb the next level to Hollywood or to write a full scale symphony.
This is what people have been telling IR when he wrote Sym #1 in 1993. Release it. It will open gates; take it up and move away to the next orbit from the mundane regional film music orbit. But did he listen? Did he have people who can give him that kind of sensible advice?
What I am saying is even if IR is not as people savvy as some one else, certainly he had people who could fill that up for him. Otherwise, his project with RPO would not have been possible in 1993.
But where are they? Why did they go away from him? What is the problem? Because come to think of it they must have been as emotionally attached to the man like you and me. Then what went wrong? To come to this state where people who don’t know the intricacies making and selling this genre of music leading IR in to a garden path?

Good points Ramesh!
Even as I try not to mix up IR the composer with IR the man, somehow or the other IR the man always seems to botch up the efforts of IR the composer - trust me, touch your hearts and as k yourself this question - forget even the symphony
why after the symphony drama in 1993, IR sacrificed the strings ensemble in his filmy compositions, which was his main/major strength ?
why does he keep throwing up tantrums every now and then about "appalam, oorugai" etc ? all this when millions revere him for his genius!
I am not someone to pass judgement on IR the person, but IR the person himself is ruining the image of IR the composer - that is my main angst/worry/concern

That was indeed a very sensible post by Ramesh. Given the greatness and the capability of IR, it is really very hard to believe that he would not have corporations backing him up for a project like TiS. And the way things have been going on, it looks as if only we the fans of IR can bail him out. I am pretty sure this is not the case. May be we all are missing out something somewhere. One of the strongest points of ARR is, he can get things done the way he wants, whenever he needs. No, I'm not comparing the capabilities of IR and ARR. Sym#1 would have been a great launching pad for IR. But, he really missed the bus.
Apart from TiS, IR could have done a lot of other things in TFM itself. He has provided us a lot of soul-stirring BGMs. Why is it that there isn't a compilation of his great work in the field of BGM? That would make a lot of people have a look at his work.
Why isn't anyone in TFM industry suggesting him to do this? People like Mr.Kamalhassan, who hold him in such a high esteem never talk to him about such things? In my opinion, there is no bigger business man than Mr.Kamalhassan in the Tamil Film Industry.
We, portraying IR in such a position is definitely not the way we should "re-pay" him. Of course, I'm not criticizing the great work done my many IR fans here. It is just that I'm clueless about how the TFW could be so indifferent towards IR.
