Is ARR Running out of Stuff?
Topic started by Ramesh Vaidhyanathan (@ gengw.gensym.com) on Fri Mar 13 15:14:51 EST 1998.
All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
I listened to VandeMatharam in which ARR recycled his own tunes from Kizhakku Ceemayile and a touch of a song from Indira.
Also ARR's recent movies for big time producers like Ratchagan and Iruvar (except one song) and Dhoud in Hindi did not have any notable music. Remember ARRs last hit Minsarak Kanavu music was done long time ago.
If for a major album for Sony released on 50th year of Indian Independence, ARR cannot produce original music, then I have to come to the conclusion that he is running out of stuff. I heard that ARR is planning to cut down on movies and concentrate more on albums. Thus he will have to produce less and earn more.
Right now I do not see any difference in the quality of music produced by ARR and Karthik Raja. In fact I think Deva is doing a better job of providing consistant good quality music.

Relax. Take a deep breath. Open your mouth wide and slowly pull both feet out. If you have trouble with that, trying pulling them out one at a time !
We cannot comment on CHAN's preferences but YOU can write a thesis on IR fans and their mentality ! Take it easy man ! Don't go hyper and personal now ! You can never get in a logical argument that way.
CHAN:
I have already explained that your post is not as inflammatory as others project it to be because, you clearly mention it as your personal opinion. But then everyone has a right to comment on your opinion when you express it publicly. That is the essence of a discussion. Defend your opinions by all means, but keep off the caps and indignation. Nobody hates you here !

Guys,
Happend to hear few songs from arr's - Jodi,
He has repeated many scores, though his bgms are some what new, but the tunes are recycled, like he has repeated kuchi kuchi rakkamma, and agian used Kafi/desh combinations, makes me think he is running out of ideas for tune.
Also in Enswasa katra - the song sung be MG. Srikumar, reminds me of the chemin song...
I dont remember the start of the song.

Srikant,
The chemin song you are referring to is probably
"Manasa Mannil Varrum....Maanasa Mannil Varrum'.

Hey SM sorry for a delayed reply
Look what i meant here was that to just lift from other popular bits from the west and score it you dont need a genius i said. He has the stuff to mix music of different style.
Think on this again, if a person is taking a year to score, he should come out with masterpieces which means from the starting note to the end it should be his own to the core right.

rama,
Never did I claim that ARR is a musical genius. Only maestro deserves that title as far as TFM is concerned, atleast, till this date. I didn't notice the word 'great' in your posting. You had written, "ARR never had great stuff'. But I didn't read it clearly and thought that you had written, "ARR never had stuff'. And that is why, I responded saying ARR had, and has, stuff. Sorry about that. It was my mistake. Anyway, I heard that this year ARR is coming up with nearly 8 albums. That is better when compared to last year when he came up with just 2 albums - "Jeans" and "Uyirae".

To Srinath:
>"Relax. Take a deep breath. Open your mouth wide and slowly pull both feet out. If you have trouble with that, trying pulling them out one at a time !"
Thank you for your insightful advice, because we half-witted ARR fans can really use the wisdom from sofisticated and 'logical' IR fans like yourself. That's good thinking (taking one foot at a time) esspecially coming from someone who has their head so deep up a certain orifice.
This guy Murali,
>"CHAN was declaring that ARR's songs are complex and IR's otherwise. I was just telling him in a hilarious manner that his views are wrong and that IR's is far more complex. "
So when an ARR fan expresses his opinion it's hilarious to you, huh? I rest my case about IR fans ignorance. Who are you say who's wrong and who's right anyways? When Christopher Columbus said the world is flat, some 'intelligent' people thought that was hilarious.
I agree with Chan's view on how ARR's songs grow on you, and I think his compositions are more complex than IR. When I listen to IR's songs on the radio and then listen on the headset, I won't discover anything new. But when I listen to ARR's songs on a headset, I can see the depth in his songs. That's just my opinion, I hope I don't get the 'kick of my life' for expressing my thoughts.
>"If you had pondered for a moment, you would have understood that I had taken the side of ARR in this thread."
I don't know the tradition this forum, but just because someone defends my favourite MD doesn't mean I have to agree with every statement he/she makes.
>"We are no sadists - after all we are not the pulic relations officers/promoters of IR."
You guys sure fooled me!

Hai Ram,
I do not understand why you are bubbly and constantly misunderstanding others. I am too tired to give you another "detailed" reply.Never did I say that CHAN's posting was hilarious. I was trying to tell you that "my" counter expression was hilarious rather. Please read through the previous posts before you counter.
Srinath,
I think I should call it "quits" from this thread as I find little sense in the proceedings. :-(

Mr.Murali,
This is a true of a kind of experience for all of us. We can read people, how their temperment is, how their attitude is. So consider this(I personally do) as a pad to learn and understand human emotions. Please do not get carried away by postings. Keep posting buddy !!
Mr.Ram,
Indeed Swaminathan aka Swami is my real name.

Have you ever heard the phrase "foot in the mouth" ? Apparently not ! I appreciate the sleuthing that you have done looking for my head and finding it in a particular place (how did it strike you to look there ?!!!). But that kind of talk just does not go in this forum. You are going to find yourself most unwelcome here.
Murali:
I would not waste my time with a person who insists on calling himself half-witted :-) But I am not too sure ARR fans would agree with his assesment, grouping them along with himself :-)

Ram: You didnt post your final conclusion!(though I have always thought a conclusion was final by itself:))
Enna sir, Ippadi ungal anbaarndha rasiganai emaatri vittergalae! I particularly like your psycho-analysis of these IR fans' mentality...so cheap ,no? Chumma taking potshots at ARR for no reason! I am impressed in no small measure by your expertly analyses and theses on why Raja-fans attack ARR. Are you a psycho-analyst, by any chance?:)
You go, sir! I am waiting eagerly for your final pronouncement.)
(Dont misunderstand..I learnt this phrase from ARR-fan-boosters...it means, continue in the same vein:))
Srinath: Hmm...you are enjoying this, arent you? Have fun,Sri, I can see you smiling proudly with your legs on another carcass at the end of all this sparring ( Satya meva jayathe :) )

How much ever we chat or fight or kick each other's B or trash each other verbally ----
ARR is going great guns, he sound the best to millions, just handful here does not matter and they cannot determine whos is on top. (I am sure one person will come up with ..commercial value does not count - only quality counts bla bla bla.... )
Hum of the day : Jumbalaka Jumbalaka jumbara jumbaale.....
Hum of yesterday : Thaiya Thiaya....
As of now he is the best.....
Do not waste time, IR fans take 80's song and start to analyze, might save you some energy.

Mr Kuzhapam,
Your Statement <<<(I am sure one person will come up with ..commercial value does not count - only quality counts bla bla bla.... ) >>> is not true. ARR is the one who started producing junk songs just for commercial value and not adhering to any quality standards set by the previous MDs.
Further IMO,
Junk of the day : Jumbalaka Jumbalaka jumbara jumbaale.....
Trash of yesterday : Thaiya Thiaya....

Village song -- tabla should be banged throughout the song, with oolulululu sounds,
a happy song- set a song in 6/8 and call SJ to
sing...
Soga song : IR sings in a nasal tone.
what are the damm stds you are talking about.
...reminds me of frog and chem'on... in the Budwiser add..
