Dear Friends,
Let us vote for 'Adi Rakkamma' from THALAPATHI as our choice for the World's Top Ten Songs poll conducted by BBC!
I am suggesting this song because if in case the BBC people listen to the nominated songs, they will feel knocked out on hearing our Maestro's 150 Vioins' Strings Ensemble!
Let us all do it at:

Yours Always Musically,
Vijay.

selva: the prime reason could be that IR doesn't want distractions, unnecessary press comments and attention could've spoilt his concentration for future works. Artistes are by nature most sensitive people and they like to be in control at all times. Their success is mostly propelled by public support which means more producers financing their ventures. Any bad press on teh symphony here and abroad could've meant risking his future concentration plus children' careers. IR has taken a good mature decision. Releasing the symphony earlier was not going to change the world, but it could've changed IR and his family' creative life. Especailly at the time of the ARR wave, the media was looking for a small chance to put IR down.
See, a genius is a genius is a genius and he knows what, when and how. That is it.
Bottomline, I think the first symphony is not one that is going to make waves, but the second or third ones and IR was interestd in learning things thru the first symphony. Don't know, but India is not ready even today for symphonies or insturmental or ballet or jazz or blues or R&B etc... the audience has not diversified and developed a fine taste yet. Indian audience still prefer diverse sounds in film songs. Even appreciating IR' compositions is a milestone for traditional classical and folk msuica oriented audience of this ancient land.
So, as Naushadji &RDB said, IR is way ahead of the times for India.
With a lot of exposure like this on BBC and TV, I think the audiences will develop finer tastes, right now it is only the IIT's and IIMs that go for different genres, not the general middle class audiences.

Maybe HCIRFs here shud stop bristling wit moral indignation on HCARRFs here and go back to old responses to look at how they invited trouble. Are Yaar's first post went like this:
"But truely speaking IR's number is also a classic. But your idea will definitely work if thing we Indians have in us. That is the feeling of unity and projecting and Indian rather than an individual."
And look at the responses he got from a HCIRFs immediately after:
"my vote goes for "poongathavae thazhthidava" from "Nizhalgal".it is way ahead of ARR's blend of sh** in the name of modern music."
"Throw away crap like ARR..."
"ARR VM is a real shame of Mother India."
This followed wit hundred of insults on "isaipuyals", "synthetic music" etc. Despite this, ARR Fans here have been more or less decent and well behaved (compare this wat ppl like yaaro etc said in the Bombay Dreams threads).
So dont come here and do the usual "ARRFans are bad to us" whine. Maybe IR Fans shud have restrained themselves and their long-held vayatheirchal, instead of insulting ARR at every opportunity they got in this thread.

Perhaps the best thing to do for the sake of music is for IR fans to be in IR pages and ARR fans to be in ARR pages - no meeting, no beating :)
It is a shame that people cannot enjoy music without putting down another person. Music is not something that has to be taken up for competition. Just listen and enjoy and stop bitchin about mundane, unneccessary stuff. So, please let people enjoy music and leave it at that.
Thanks,
Eswar

Sabs! :))
>>>>somehow our friend never sees the "ugly"ness of ARR fans, but seems to be living no bricks turned when the same comes from an IR fan.... hmm funny.....
Let me try some logic now.
Would a 20-year old man want to race with a 40-year old man?
Unless the 40-year old man keeps on provoking the 20-year old.
This is no chicken and egg story.

Although that would be sad, it would be the best thing. However, our friends here sometimes get carried away and start getting sarcastic and say deragotary stuff. And then the retorts begin and continues into an endless cycle.
Good example is the IR new albums thread. The IR thread is relatively undisturbed (other than Are Yaar's tit-for-tat postings). Forget ARR fans, even MSV fans, Deva fans, HJ fans, xxx fans all do not bother anyone there.
Comparatively the ARR new albums thread is flooded with criticism and hatred.
Million dollar question is WHY?
In fact I have been trying to impress this upon Sabs all the time. :)
Whatever internal bickerings, countries will put them aside when facing a common enemy. So, why don't we put aside all differences, imagined or real, and be on on our best behaviour? All for the noble cause of having a Tamil song gaining recognition in the world?
Deal?

Raja of Rhythm!
BBC as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations complied a list of World’s Top Ten songs and the winner is “Adi Rakkamma Kaiya Thattu” from India. Ilayaraja had tuned this Tamil song and it has left behind western pop and rock classics! More than 1000 songs were nominated from different countries.
S.P.Balasubramaniam and Swarnalatha sung this song for the Mani Ratnam classic Dalapathy. Music fans from 112 countries selected the winner and the maximum number of votes had been sent from India. Other winners among the top ten from India are Bankim Chandra Chaterjee’s “Vande Madaram” sung and composed by A.R.Rahman in the fifth place and "Chaiya Chaiya…" written by Gulzar, sung by Sukhvinder and composed by A.R.Rahman at the seventh place.
Strangely the Rakkamma song is the last song composed by Ilayaraja for Mani Ratnam before their famous fall out. Actually the fall out was over Ilayaraja making snide remarks about Mani’s picturisation of the song. Tamil film fans believe that the song became such a huge hit during those days mainly because it was shot on the living legend Rajnikanth.

Thanks WN.
Actually I voted onlyu once for vandemaatharam and wrote that piece that we Indians should have in us the word "UNIT". But after discovering how easy it is to rig this poll,I thought that it is a shame to vote here.
Infact it is so easy that you need to delete in cookies and one "preserve" folder/file from Temp. Internet files. If you have time then you can vote the all day long.
As I said before my friend who voted for this song just for RK factor found out this method. Then it came to me even by mails as to how to rig a vote. But many have asked me to vote RKT and I too said vote of RKT or ARR's ome song...no English song for what so ever.
Hope..this poll atleast..atleast persuades IR to release his symphony...No connection though ...but just a alpa aasai.

Hi hope u all have voted for IR's Rakamma kaiya thattu. I also did. Friends, mariah carrey is very closer to IR. Many people r not aware of such a vote. Will the media persons help the fans with the link to vote. So that many people will become aware of the thing.
In Solla marantha kathai, i think IR has rejuvenated to his old melodies ie early 90s.
Amma sonna ariraro... is very good to hear
gundu malli .. is very different

REALLY RAKAMMA KAIYA THATTU SHOULD BE THE TOP SONG. I CAN SAY, IT IS A COMBINATION OF ALL SUPER/TOP STARS. IE
1. ILLAYARAJA
2. RAJINI
3. MANIRATNAM
4. PC SRIRAM
I THINK EVERY ONE IS A GENIUS IN THEIR FIELDS. THIS SONG WHICH STARTED DUST WHEN IT CAME CONTINUES UPTO NOW. THE INTERLUDE IN THAT 'KUNITHA PURUVAMUM' IS SOMETHING GREAT. THE MOVIE HUMMING 'CHA CHAGA CHAGA CHAGACHAN','CHANGU CHAKKU CHACHAKKU CHAKKU CHANGU CHAKKU CHAN' ETC ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL. THE MUSIC (VIOLIN) IS VERY CLASSY TO HEAR. EVERYTHING IS FINE IN THAT SONG. THERE IS NO WONDER THAT THE MOVIE IS IN FIRST POSITION. DECEMBER 21ST WILL BE A FESTIVAL FOR INDIANS ESPECIALLY IR FANS
