This albug shows that IR hasnT only missed the train, he also has forgotten where the station is... the melodies are all recycled, use of same insruments as ususal and coming sort of 9-10 years late!
Its jus sad that someone with the talent of IR does not try something new... He can take an example on his son Yuvan, who deliveres new things in every film!

I don't think he should take a lesson from his son ysr, because then it wouldn't really feel like his worl. He still has the goods in him as we saw with azhagi and friend, he might have slipped on this one but to say take "an example from his son yuvan, who delivers new things every film"?come on now yuvan doesnt bring new things every film.

" This is an avg album. It will be difficult for Vikram/Surya fans to digest these songs after Kalyanamdaan(Saamy) and Uyirin Uyire(KK). Whatever be the story and accepted that the songs are going to match it...still the pace is not there.
I'm sorry for Vikram n Surya and pray that the movie does not suck like the songs."
Whatever be the story doesn't matter??? This is the kind of mould audience should not try to impose and make MD's come with same junk. IMO PM songs are quite good compared to most of the releases this year, they are not modern, not current trend, not futuristic, they're just right. These are the kind of songs which will most likely enhance the story of the movie.
"Its jus sad that someone with the talent of IR does not try something new... "
Where were you all those days when IR not only "tried" something new but also created a lot more new things? What station are you talking about? Every MD has his own trend and if IR was to follow what every other guy in business does, what is his speciality? He is doing what is good for the movie and what he is good at. You may not like the songs, but it does not mean anything towards IR's capability or creativity or boldness to try new things.
Anyways, there is more to look for from an IR movie than just songs, the BGM of the movie. Can any MD in India even deliver 10% of the quality of BGMs he does? If we were to start writing reviews of BGM of his movies, newtfmpage would just blow out of proportion.

guys,
IMHO,
it is a nice album eventhough a short one.
I would rank songs like
1. Elangathu veesuthe (duet)
eventhough Sriram did not a good job, song tune is melodious and mesmerising.
2. Adadaa
Out of the world. KJY did wonderful job. His aged voice has been masked cleverly by recording engineers. I am unable to recall a KJY song that sounded quite bad. I will come up with the name of the song later. A class one. shows the vigor and gets us to imagine the situation in the movie.
other songs did not appeal to me on the first hearing. Actually this is the first album of IR that appealed to me on the first hearing (after his downfall).
Please listen to high quality songs from CD or mp3. And by the way, people against mp3 downloads, audio company is the one that will be affected. DEFINETELY not IR. I don't support mp3 downloads, however when people use IR's name for stopping mp3 download, it is a
'disgrace'
to him. I don't think it is going to affect him in anyway. Please let us respect him than drag him down for these stuff.

After multiple hearings the songs are alright. Just as background while i am online. Pretty sure these will work with d story. My picks are piraiye piraiye, elangathu and adadaa. Only problem i have is they seem similair to his other songs. But oh well.
I'd have to disagree with Jag saying that this is the best recently for songs that would go with the story. Think Kannathil Muthamittal and Boys did justice to the story. I don't feel that illaiyaraja is the only one that can handle BGM. Rahman has proved he can too recently with his works and i feel he has shown thisalways with the better directors. Look at Kannathil Muthamittal, Boys and Minsara Kanavu.
No doubt illaiyaraja is very good at this but to say he is the only one who can, not feeling that comment.
Oh well tamil music is getting better as a whole and thats all that matters really. Cant wait for the release of this movie.

Boyz had a story? and the Music fitted well!! gr8... what to tell!!, there was the gr8 BGM!!
Anyways.. IR delivers on time but this time, he did not create the wave, thats all, but mixed opinions!! which is very constructive competition.. Good, I am happy he is still a force in TFM..
My opinion after several hearings..
PM music is appropriate and good. Will have to wait for the movie.

Piratheepan, Well you are saying that Boys had great BGM's?. THe only thing that impressed me in the BGM was the flute when they boys and guys elope to Tirupathi!. Other than that i didnt find any thing that impressed me!.
As for as PM, its such a beautifull album. Look at the trend now, Hip hop, very poppish (even the so called duets are crappy, it doesnt have any emotions at all!!!) and here is IR who have given a wonderfull duet. Hats off!
IR fans rest assured, more and more are gonna change their minds on the coming days! thats for sure

Boys music really fit the youthful theme of the movie.
No doubt about that. But bringing in Boys and ARR into this thread is totally unwarranted.

The bits in the BG during boys were good, for instance when they go to the resort, or the music during the jail sequence etc.
I don't see how bringing in other albums for for critisim is unwarranted. I didn't bash either album.
I don't agree with ur comment Raj abt no good duet songs. Have you listened to the Thirumalai songs? There is a very good duet number there with spb. Also the Iyarkai songs have two good duet songs. Udhaya also has some nice duets too. We just don't find many duet numbers because the stories don't fit the scenario many youth type films.
As for PM the songs resembling his earlier works can only be a plus or a minus for the music sales. Either people will feel they are cheated becuase they've heard them before or go to buy them because they enjoyed the songs they enjoyed them the first time.
Anyways waiting for the movies release should be an interesting movie.

sriram, I object to the word "Recycled".
IR is the only MD who has used panthuvarali very effectively, giving it a fresh treatment each time.
Eg : Rojavai thaalatum thenral- ninaivellam nithya
Ninnai charan adainthen-bharathi
ippodenna thevai - Makkal aatchi
nalla neram - a dance number i n AONimidam
another totally swara based classical number(I have forgotten the lyrics) in isai paadum thenral putham pudhu poo - is Hamsanandhi IMO(Of course Hamsanandi/Panthuvarali have close resemblance)
Iam curious to know which other MD in tamil field has given so many variety in Panthuvarali.

"piraiye" is a classic. "Elangathu" resembles "kathum kuyile" from Kizhakum Merkum.

Mythila & others,
for what its worth, that sriram (@ 68.116.122.159) was not me. I used to post as s0. I do agree with him on the use for pandhuvarALi for sogam. he could've tried some rarer soga, heavy ragas like bhairavi.
too many Rajs & srirams..:-(

Hi,
Its a album more of situational songs but not the IR is capable of. I feel he is not in supreme confidence lately (certainly not like Kannukul Nilavu or Azhagi or Friends or Hey Ram). What I feel good about this album is that he showed signs of his strengths especially in KJY and Madhu's song. Though the music was good but not exceptional, I am confident that watching the movie will be a delight, because there will be good sensible scenes (because of bala) which will be made more captivating by IR's BGM. Anyone can put their money on IR's BGM.
Its good that people judge the album in he right sense than blindly praising IR. As already said by V please dont bring ARR to this thread unless you have any good reason.

this should be read as
Its an album more of situational songs but IR is capable of producing better than this

I dont know whether this was mentioned before,
Elangaathu is very close to "Malai koyil vasalil" from veera
Kodi edhi veppom resemble "Kalaivaniyo raniyo ival dhan yaaro" from villupattukaaran
