Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

Tell me one shankar movie that did not have double meaning dialogues or such scenes
In the so called revoluitonary movie "Gentleman." there were scenes on mullu theiyudhu etc etc.
Entire kadhalan had double meaning.
And urmila kamal goundamani scenes in indian.
Entire boys movie had such scenes. Thats all.
People will be surprised if you would find such scenes in a maniratnam movie. Not in a shankar movie. Dont quote me wrong.
Even maniratnam movie has sex. only when story demands.
like in nayagan, the song nila adhu vanathu mela.
and saranya being a prostitute. if shankar had been the director he would have just exploited the situation and made it as a sex movie.
Shankar is a director who takes a theme and coats with the sex masala and floats it across. Thats all

Ferrari,
Yeah, I do remember many such dialogues in his movies including the "2 vellai pura joing-nu parandhuchu" :-)
But those things did not have a big impact because it was lost in the theme of the movie. His earlier films thus weren't considered vulgar coz of this. But when there is a movie which has this as the main theme and deals more with "visuals", it has a greater impact and becomes embarassing.
I am not debating the "legacy" (sorry for using this term, but I din get the proper word!) of Shankar here, was just stating why BOYS was a failure in here.

You are perfectly right. But hope this brings some sense to shankar and he stops the vulgairty in his movies.

Vulgarity..mm..I doubt if that would form a part of Anniyan. Three different roles for Vikram is a lot to handle in a movie. So, I doubt it.But one of the role that Vikram plays is that of an Iyer. So I guess he would take a dig at Brahmins, as most people do. It's kinda becoming normal in Tamil cinema. Thanks to KB who I guess started it off!

#BOYS would have been a hit movie if it were directed by Selvaraghavan or people of that sort
Boys would have been a hit for the same story had they not reshot the movie, and Shankar takes a handsome salary home about 3-4 crores escalating the cost.

Ferrari,
KB lost his uniqueness with time. His "directorial pieces" were more irritating people or giving them a redundant feel rather than looking fresh and appreciable. He is still happily minting money in serials where I find him rather irritating!
Jacky,
Reshot the movie? Were things toned down before Shankar saw the success of Thulluvatho Ilamai??

shankar thought that he is directing holly wood movie.. He has holly wood thinking, but that is not suited to our practices.
Lets hope shankar gives good film

yeh i can watch that movie with my parents, there are much worse movies in tamil cinema that are more vulgar.and yes C~P at that age people tend to be attracted to the opposite sex. Its the natural inclination of humans and animals.well there are those who are attracted to the same sex so maybe thats wat u were talkin abt iono.
and afterthe cuts the movie was very watchable with the family.
Watch the movie once harini decides to sing again theyll show the making of the cds. And they show the backcover. There are 10 songs on the back of that cover. 7 songs are from the movie. Then 2 that dont show up in the movie at all and also the one that plays in the background when harini runs away from home. Cept in the movie it plays for like 30 seconds or so but on the back cover of the cd in the movie it shows the time as 4:31.
I wonder where those 3 songs went on the Boys cd that we bought?

cp,
i don't know anything about that but its AMR's fault to run mad for a story that won't have great market outside Madras in TN.
Piratheepan,
Boys is anyday better to watch than Rani mukerji's rape scene in Hey ram.
That was gore.

Piratheepan,
That's something we can't talk about then. You feel it is watchable with parents and I feel it's not. So there is no point arguing about it.
And yeah, agreed that it is normal with the teens. But showing it on the screen beyond a certaion limit that too in a U/A films I don't think is acceptable.

Hi guys,
Having seen 'Boys' I do agree w/ u say about the blatant vulgarity in the 1st half....and also agreed that vulgarity isn't an issue w/ this movie alone.
But what I want to ask all those women's organisations (& our public) that've protested against vulgarity is, y do these people target films/TV alone as the sources of vulgarity involving women?? There are for instance, erotic novels (most of which are written by women authors to boot!) that contain stories about feminine sexuality, illicit affairs etc. described more explicitly, and yet manage to become bestsellers in the market and their authors famous!
Ironically, women don't mind buying such novels and most of them after reading them, don't find such stuff about women vulgar at all! And the same women go protesting against movies that 'contain vulgarity' simply due to the fact that they show MEN enjoying doing such things to women and also coz such movies are directed by MEN!
This is really a two-sided and narrow minded attitude on their part! If they wish vulgarity shunned, let them take a stand against non onscreen media (& against both the sexes) as well!

CP: yep I agree with ya.....the reason I guess Piratheepan thinks movies like Boys are ok to watch with parents is coz he must be living in sum western country like US(?) where parents don't mind such stuff....;-)
and yep, hez also wrong in sayin that all teenage guys who ain't gay get 'those' feelings! Sheesh......the kinda generalisations that thez directors make!

my 2 cents on Boys
I personally did not find anything offensive in the movie, except maybe the eve teasing scenes because eve teasing is a crime against women.
And if moviegoers feel embarassed while watching this movie with their parents thats their problem, that is something they have to come to terms with. if they can watch couples gyrating and simulating sexual acts with their clothes on sitting with your parents, they should definitely be able to watch Boys.
If a person does not relate to a movie, why does have to trash the movie as vulgar and an unfair generalization. Indian and Hollywood movies excel in stereotyping people belonging to certain castes, races and ethnicities.
and as far as I know women and others do not protest against depiction of sex in TV and cinema, but they do have a big problem with women being depicted as sex objects. Keeping them covered when wanted and then making them strip otherwise.
all IMHO.

Hey Hey Johnny Kay ,
So ur saying that ur not attracted to girls?at that age all u did was study and that if you saw a pretty girl ur head didnt turn.and if there was one u liked u didnt try to impress her some how?If you have seen the cut version of BOYS ud think it was pretty decent. Wat does living in a western country have to do with anything. My parents are very conservative, the thing is there is a huge list of tamil films worse then boys and people dont say n e thing.
wat i find funny is how dumb the avg cinema goer is in India. becuz the trailors clearly showed you wat kinda movie it was going to be and then they all complained abt the movie.
