Raga of song please

  Does the song 'Oru poongavanam pudhu manam' (Agni
  Nakshatram) has the traces of Suddha Saveri? The
  instrumental piece when the song begins seems to
  seems to indicate so.

  Geetha, thanks for the info. As fas as the 'invention' of new raaga, I think it is a 'discovery' of not known raagas as pointed out by Late Veenai Balachander. I remember the 'kudimi pudi sandai' few years back between Balachander and BMK when the latter claimed that he invented new raagas. At this juncture, I recall Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan named a new raaga 'JAYALALITHA' in praise of the then TN CM Jayalalitha and mentioned that it has a aarohanam of Jayanthasri and avarohanam Lalitha (or the viceversa ?).

  ellorum sollum paatu is definitely not sarasaangi. it sounds so much different from song no.2 in your list.verify again.also song no.4 i thought was set in mayamalavagowlai.

  Iravum nilavum is supposed to be in sarangatharangini. Heard this on a TV program by Sowmya. It looks very close to Hamsanadham.

  Rajaraman: I listened to Iravum Nilavum this weekend and played it on the keyboard. It is in fact Suddha Sarang.....a Hindustani Ragam close to Saranga and Hamsanadham.....I think that it's Carnatic name is Saranga Tharangini....Thanks for that.
  
  Rajaraman: I agree, the Dha is part of Hamsanadham, as it's true Raga Latchanam says, but as I indicated, it's not used much, even in the Thyagaraja Kriti Bantureethi, it's not used....It's the Dha3 that Hamsanadham doesn't have, the Dha2 is perfectly acceptable.
  
  Vijey: Thanks for the clarification, I actually put up that list for verification, as I haven't actually heard all the songs, I'm cross checking a list I was given(I'm trying to confirm for a radio programme, but am at a loss, as I can't find my cassettes with songs that I actually identified).....As for Meenamma, I vaguely recall it, but I'll try and listen to it again, I guess MMG and Sarasangi have similarities....I must admit, I only remember the resemblance with Raajan Odu Rani(Sarasangi) for Meenamma. That too sounds MMG like, but I think it's one note different....

  Iravum Nilavum is not Ameer Kalyani. The other song from Karnan, "En Uyir Thozhi" is Amir Kalyani.

  Thanks for the info Raajaraaman.! Looks like all the 3 songs os far in that raaga are by IR. I also have another request . I have heard that there are some raagas that are/were hardly used in TFM and a few handled only by IR.(Lakshmi's classical articles mentioned a few ) Do we have a list of one that has this info. i mean the raagas that are very rarely used.??   Do you want a list of rare ragas? That's a huge list.
  It's easy to list the ragas commonly used. :)

  Thanks to everybody for the info. I am convined that Oh Priya is in Sivaranjani. As far as the other songs are concerned, I am still waiting for the confirmation from Hari Govindan :-)

  Ramaswamy: I listemed to the Oh Priya Priya and it still sounds like Keeravani to me. It may be a derivative of it, please have Hari check it's notes. It just seems to have more than the pentatonic S R G P D S - S D P G R S......It has that 'Priyasakhi' sound and that's why I guessed it to be in Keeravani.....
  
  Iravum Nilavum is in Suddha Saranga - It would be nice if you put this name as well, as it's the well known name for Sarangatharangini. Thanks for this....

  But I have also uploaded a 'cute' abheri (among some other hits) by IR - 'veLLi kolusu maNi'. There was just some minor deviation in the charanam.
