TFM Stories, Tit-Bits and Anecdotes

The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:

Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?

  Since you are from Srirangam, you will find the
  following from Vaali's book interesting.
  
  On the way to koLLidam (the part of Kaveri that
  runs on the northern side of Srirangam) there
  is an old maNdapam called Kazhudhai maNdapam.
  Because it was a quite place, he and his friend
  Patturaja used to sit there and invent their
  naadagap paadalgaL. It seems Vaali wrote a number
  of songs that became big hits later, while
  sitting in kazhudhai maNdapam. The songs
  that he mentions are:
  
  kaRpanai endraalum kaRchchilai endraalum
  kandhanE! unai maRavEn (TMS)
  
  OraaRu mugamum eeraaRu karamum
  theeraadha vinaidhannai theerkkum (TMS)

  In this context of old creations that become
  big hits much later, Vaali mentions that
  the tune for kaNNan oru kai kuzhandhai
  was created by IR many many years before he
  entered TFM: he originally used the tune for a
  drama bgm it seems!

  Ramki: the version I heard about the Music for "USV" was that MGR had locked himself up with MSV & Vaali in a hotel room for several days( something like 10 to 20 days ) to get all songs written(some of the songs could have been by lyricists other than Valli? ) and music scored. MGR had supposedly rejected 100's of tunes( some of which became big hits in other movies ) before accepting the 8 tunes that made it to USV. Those songs of USV are excellent, right?
  
  This is the story I heard:
  Balachandar had almost always used TMS for at least one song in his movies. He had been a big fan of TMS. When KB made "Aval Oru Thodarkathai", he was trying to record the song "Deivam Thantha Veedu" and KB called TMS to come immediately to the recording theatre for singing that song. But, TMS was very busy and just ignored KB's request( I don't know the reasons behind that: garvathiley ignore panninaara, illai, thideernu kooppittavudan scheduleai adjust pannamudiyaamal ponatha or whatever ). KB and MSV were waiting for TMS in the recording theatre and TMS never showed up. KB got mad and asked MSV if he has somebody else to sing the song. MSV wanted to promote KJJ and so suggested KJJ's name and KB agreed. So, KJJ was brought in to sing the song and we all know the fate of that song. KB never forgot that incident and dumped TMS from his movies after that. I was one of the people saddened by that incident and its aftermath.

  Here are some excerpts from the book, Vairamuthu varai by
  Dr K. Kalyanasundaram. (This book is about lyricists in TFM; it
  actually gives details of about 500+ lyricists in TFM.) These excerpts
  talk about PattukkOttai Kalyanasundaram's ability to spontaneously
  react in situations.
