The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:

Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?

  I was talking to my friend( Keerthi, you know Mani, right? Avanthaan, Ingu Massachusettsilthaan Irukkiraan with his family! ). Here is a possible explanation we came up with: MSV & TKR( Mani thinks even KVM ) worked under SMSubbiah Naidu as assistants long before they became MDs. In fact, to show their loyalty, gratitude, appreciation, etc., etc., these MDs together had arranged and conducted a massive all-star-musical-night sometime in the late 70's or early 80's, to benefit SMS and avarukku ponnaadhai poarthi, panamudippum koduthu avarai gauravithathodu, uthaviyum seithu "kaimaaru" thedikkondaargal.
  Anyway, while they were assistants, they could have met PKS begging SMS for a chance and SMS would have asked MSV to handle him. MSV could have been rude and tried to chase PKS away owing to the busy schedule for a while until either MSV himself decided to or SMS requested MSV to, at least spare a few minutes to PKS and listen to his song "Thoongaathey Thambhi Thoongaathey". Upon listening, they would have all been impressed and offered PKS the chance of his lifetime. This imaginary tale also coincides with the fact that PKS's song "Thoongaathey Thambhi Thoongaathey" appeared in "Nadodhi Mannan" and the Music was by SMS.

  oru chinna digression Long back (70s) in an interview, ezhuththaaLar Rangaraajan (athaanga namma "sujatha") told that he and another friend of him, another Rangaraajan (who later was called as "vaali" in TFs) hail from Srirangam (and if I remember correct, they were classmates). Is there any mention in Vaali's AB about Sujatha?

  Pagalavan is that true???My father and Sujatha were schoolmates too but a few years senior to him.Though my father has mentioned abt Sujatha he has never talked abt Vaali.Anyway we can understand why'puthagam paiyile budhiyo paatile palliyai parthadhum odhunguvom mazhaiyile'endru ezhudhiyavar Vaalidhanae:))Incidentally my father is also Rangarajan-probably Srirangam was full of Rangarajans in those days:))

  Kannadhasan was once sitting with the MD and Director of a movie to write a song for Sivaji. The Director was explaining the situation and Kannadhasan was cracking his head, when Kannadhasan's assistant cam in with a piece of news. It seemed that Kannadhasan had lent some money to a certain person and the person had disappeared. Since it was a lost cause and since Kannadhasan was concentrating on writing a song, he dismissed his assistant by saying, "Pohnaa, poh-vattumda!" The Director like these very words and asked Kannadhasan to write using them and trala-la, Poanal poagattum poada was born!

  the middle/late 40's. Anyway, MSV's AB is being

  wait for a few more days to confirm that.
  
  It appears that PattukkOttai had a rough time
  with others too. Vaali mentions the following in

  Vaali mentions an interesting conversation with MGR.
  When MGR was making 'Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban', he
  wanted to tease Vaali a bit. So he called Vaali
  and said: indha brammaaNdamaana budget padaththil
  naan ummai paattu ezhudha azhaikkap pOvadhillai.
  Pada titles-il um peyar vaRaathu. udanE Vaali,
  adhu ungaLaal ninaiththaalum mudiyaadhu! en

  I have a delicious bit of Tidbit on IR to share with all of you.
  Many people blamed IR for the downfall of TM Sounderarajan. But the actual case was TMS was already on his way down during IR's entry to TFM. The scene then was dominated by KJJ and SPB. TMS had also bad-mouthed IR on several instances. Yet, do you know that the FIRST male singer for IR was TMS??!! Do any of you know details of the song? Let me give someone else the opportunity to reveal it.

  Wasn't the first TMS song for IR in AnnakkiLi: the pathos version of "annakkiLi unnai thEduthE"? (TMS's voice for Sivakumar was an atrocious choice!) I don't think either IR or the popularity of SPB/KJJ was the cause of TMS's downfall; I think TMS's voice had deteriorated so much after the mid 70's that people started losing interest in his songs. Only Shivaji insisted on having TMS's voice for a few more years; so in some Shivaji movies (Naan nadri solven, Thyagam, Dheepam etc.) TMS did sing some songs under IR.

  Three youths, living together, aspired to break into Tamil cinema. One of them who was from overseas (foreign) had sung a couple of songs, another had a couple of stories that he wanted to make into movies. And the other was a budding musician. After living in poverty and going up and down producers' houses, they broke into the cinema industry in the mid-70's in a grand scale. Do you know who were the three?   Another episode:
  Namma maestro has seen the length and breadth of TAmilNadu. Once in his budding days, he was traveling with spb, amar, rdbaskar for a concert, in a car. It seems it was pouring heavily and the car was involved in an accident. The car had nosedived into a roadside ditch quite deep enuf to engulf the car in the rains. At that time it seems isaignani said to the rest of the crowd in the car.

  Kalaikkoil had MSV as the MD in the titles. But the one I'm talking about had Chittibabu's name appeared in the titles as the MD.

  I too have a bit too share. My friend named Mr.Bosco ( TV Host RAFI BERNARDS brother)
  was told by his father that during IR's earlier days IR and G.amren used to walk all the way from mylapore (thalayari street)and land up in a church were bosco's father was a "father". They used to sit all day outside the church and compose some christian devotional songs. In the evening they used to get some money and walk back to their home. Thats one of the reasons why IR does a splendid job whenever it comes to church scenes be it "Alaigal oyvathillai " or "Poovae poo chooda vaa" etc.
