  Now that Shankar has mentioned the same song sung in DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, we can think of many such instances. All the songs of idhayaththai thirudaadhE, for example which were sung by Mano were sung by SPB in the telugu version (original) geethanjali. I thought that SPB did a lot lot more justice to the mood of the songs than did Mano.

  a small correction, Devan thantha veenai was sung by JC not by KJY. KJY sings in pillai thamizh(and some vaarthai mis-ucharappu), other than that he's has been just terrific.
  
  does anyone remember a song KJY+SPB sang together, ChandraBose as MD...carnatic based one, a beautiful song, very popular in ceylon radio.

  How about Poonthenrale Nee padi vaa" from Manasukkul mattappu one duet by JC and chithra, I think and another solo. Another song "Oru Jeevan than Un" from "Naan adimai ellai" by SPB and SJ and solo by SPB. The duet is the best one.

  "Pattu onnu padatuma" by KJY and the same BY PS.I find the one bstarting by PS the best oneas u can see from the fil itself.
  How many of u have listened to the song - "Porul thedum bhoomiyil arul seiyyum deivame" from kalki. I found the one by female more good than the male one.
  same in the case of "Sollamalle yenai yaar parthathu " from " poove unakkaga".

  more recent one,
  priyamudan, song is 'bharathikku kannamma'(another deva import from HFM), 2 versions each by SPB and UK. Both are good in their own way, though I felt SPB was much better,
  not withstanding the fact that My fav singer is UK at present. In the same film, there r 2 versions of song 'white lagon', by deva and surendar.
  
  I like having different versions for a song, using different singers, as they give entirely differnt flavour to the same song.

  and sad version by SPB ?
  Thamizhukkum amuthendru per by TMS/PS ?
  Kannile anbirunthaal kallile by TMS/PS ?
  You will find that PS's rendition has more birkaas than TMSs, particularly in Thamizhukkum...
