One of the best by LRE. The haunting humming as bb mentioned is what sets it apart.
Other good efforts that spring to mind when we mention LRE are
1. Pattathu Rani
2 Muthamaa mohamaa
3. malar enra siruvandu
4 Ammano saamiyo ( the zest in the song is infectious. OISG , for once JJ did full justice to the song, may be it was of Nagesdh who was doing the vepillai adi!)
5 there is one other PS-LRE combo song which has as I type evaporated straight out of my memory. saravna , as usual , please come to the rescue!

LRE....unakkAga uruvAkkappatta pAdal ethhanai ethhanayO ......'ammammA kannathhil kannam vaithhu koLLa' endru engaLai kondrAyE, sivantha maNNil pattathhu rANI pAdum pAdal vetrikku thAn endru uNarthinAyE..... kAthalukku thoothu sella oru thOzhi uNdenru yAm arivOm...
A great song...LRE was used only on Kannadasan's insistence. LRE brings adds this 'waft of cool breeze' attribute to Charukesi for the sax interlude to continue this good work. Mood well created !!! All this, till as is MSV's wont, the raaga changes. All lines of the charanam are set to the same metre, indicating that lyrics happened first. The tune more or less camoflauges this by changing its course at the appropriate points.

Vengayam, there are too many PS-LRE songs that I like :) Are you thinking of any of the following:
malarukku thendral pagaiyaanal/ thoodhu sella oru thozhi/ chithira poo vizhi vaasalile/ vaadiyamma vaadi/ unadhu malar kodiyile/ sonathellaam nadandhiduma/ nadandhadhu netru mudindhadhu/ kadavul thandha iru malargal/ kai niraya sozhi/ o oho chinnajiru/ adi podi asattu penne/ adi podi payithiyakkaari' --?

What a song ! It takes your breath away as you listen.
Is the other one with the same wordings 'O ammamma...' (probably a lifted tune by Veda) sung by LR Easwari too ?

Vengayam- onnum private joke-laam illai, just our usual way :) For some reason SL has been posting under various names of late (though his inimitable posts always give away his identity!)
Da Vinci, are you referring to 'o mama kannathil kannam vaithu kollu, kallunda poovai konjam killu'- yes by LRE. Veda. Vallavan Oruvan.

Great to hear LRE - transports you to another world, eerie feel to the song. Currently Ammamma Kannathil Kannam vaithu Kollu & Varavendum oru pozudhu are my pick of LRE greats.

Yes, Saravanan.
Tried to find this song online after listening to today's SOTD, but couldn't. I saw the same song mentioned by a few others too.
More than her Cabaret songs, LR Easwari always reminds me of 'karpUra nAyagiyE...' which would blare in every loud speaker in Madurai whenever there was a special prayer even in the smallest of the roadside temples :). Needless to say how many times one would have heard it when one happened to live in Madurai for 25 years :)

I just got done listening to the 'Naattupura Paattu' song. Although the beats were quite run-of-the-mill, the melody was nice (has traces of raagam Bilahari/Deshaakshi).

Thalaivaa, romba nandRi for merina.com.
Saravanan, bb,
Speaking of LRE,PS can we have "malarukku thendral pagaiyaanaal" as an SOTD sometime? I recently rediscovered this song, very gratifying it was.

Song of the Day: Swing swing unadhu oonjal naan from vaNakkathukkuriya kAdhaliyE.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/swing.rm
- Saravanan writes:
Sung by Jayachandran & Vani Jairam. Lyrics by Vaali. Music by MSV.
Cine Bharath’s Vanakkathukkuriya Kaadhaliye (released on 14.7.1978) starred Sridevi in a dual role, with Rajnikanth & Vijayakumar playing the male leads. Others in the cast were Jaiganesh, Jayachitra, S.A.Asokan, S.V.Subbiah and Manorama. It was directed by A.C.Thirulogachandar.
The film was the celluloid adaptation of a novel by the late Rajendrakumar. A tedious tale of twins, as usual, separated at birth. One Sridevi is brought up as a Christian (Anglo Indian?). Rajni is her lover. This Sridevi suffers from agonizing bouts of stomach pain, and finally dies of this incurable illness. The other Sridevi’s pair is Vijayakumar, and she is endowed with the power of clairvoyance, leading to some wearisome twists in the proceedings.
MSV’s earnest efforts to exorcise the ennui with some good songs paid off, at least to some extent. ‘Adiyenai paaramma pidivaadham yenamma’ (Jolly Abraham/BSS) was a catchy duet that was often heard on radio in the late 70s. ‘Thottu thottu moham’- (SPB/LRE, begins with LRE’s dizzying declaration ‘Hey-you know me? I am Queen of Queenssss!’); and the chant ‘Vinnaagi mannaagi kanal punal kaatraagi--’ that leads to ‘Nalla vaakku sonnaal palithuvidum naakkudayaale’ (Seergazhi Govindarajan) were the other songs.
* * * *
This song, (like ‘Hey, you know me’), featured Sridevi & Rajini and hence Vaali, considering their Christian characterizations, may have thought it fit to liberally lace his lyrics with English words.

‘Swing swing’ is among the very few songs that Jayachandran ever got to sing for Rajni. ‘Vaazhkkaiye vesham’ (Aarilirundhu Arubathu Varai) was another song. Of course, ARR made him sing ‘Raajiyama illai Imayama' recently in Baba (Rajni doesn’t sing the lines, though).
JC & VJ got to sing many dulcet duets. There is always something inexplicably appealing when their voices are heard together; and following MSV, other MDs too struck gold by harnessing this chemistry. Even in this song, listen to how their voices in concert tenderly bring to life the vivid hues of rapturous romance that MSV dexterously paints in his orchestral canvas.
So swing on--and sway to the spell of this exquisite sample from the magical 70s--

One of the great songs of LRE. The thozhi actress was VR Thilagam. In that scene both KRV and VRT were shown with glamorous costumes and make-up besides provoking facial expressions.
LRE's other goods songs incl. The whole Vaa Raaja Vaa (Kallellaam sela senjaan, Unmai edhu poi edhunnu and one more) songs, nEram iravu nEram (from Ponnukku thanga manasu), sala sala aaththOttam ingE kala kala kaaththOttam (Praptham)... innum nirayavE irukku. A great artist.

"Swing Swing Unathu Oonjal Naan" one of the best JC-VJ duets. Great tune from MSV. I love this song.
"Thottu thottu moham, thattu thattu thaalam" is another interesting song. very catchy song. LRE and SPB excelled.
"Vannakathukuriya Kaathaliye" is the first song for Jolly Abraham.
Movie is also quite interesting. I guess, A.C.Thirulohachandar directed this movie after Badrakali for which Illayaraja scored music.

For me swing swing is one of those tanglish irritants.
After "Kaadhalennum", "Kaatukulle","Kaezhakoram", I thought the "K" sentiment caught u too. Well, among the 3 K's, nos 2 and 3 win hands down. Kaadhalennum song makes me go into anaytical mood into the flute, guitar, violin . Iam unable to just lay back and enjoy this song.(No I luv this song too, but am unable to appreciate it at the moment)
But kaatukulle and kaezhakoram are such cool laid back songs, seriyaana themmaangu. Pity there is not much appreciation for such sweet, simple melodies. Indha rendu paataiyum , kannai moodikondu, manadhai mattum thirandhu vaithu kondu ketkalaam.
I don't care if the rythms in these songs are monotonous. Kaatukulle and kaezhakoram smell fresh rain soaked soil.
bb, refrain from making derogatory remarks like boring rythm pattern, uninspiring charanam etc . BTW, the interludes in Keazhakoram flow and blend well with the song . The charanam in Keazhakoram is infact very good and not just a filler like in "swing" song.
