IR's Dad,
I would like to conclude few points from your posting.
1. You feel that you are not at all fit to be his father. What to do? It is fate.
2. As a Naina, u accept IR has got Great Knowledge. That is fine.(That means U accept that he has great depth of knowledge on Indian Music Culture, Musical Ragas, Instruments etc)
2. You feel that he is not respecting U. Please acquire some musical knowledge, before commenting on him. He will definetly respect U. By the by, do you think u r his guru. He his Mr. K.V.Gopalakrishnan, for whom yr son has got greatest regards. Don't worry.
3.Your son has composed songs based on Villuppatu, Karagattam, Kolattam, Nattuppuram, Kalariattam and so many other art forms, fused with Western, Carnatic, hindustani styles that no other MD's dared to try. But still U expect him to popularise all music forms. That is good intention but it is not possible. You please collect some tips from histories of Pallava, Mojendadaro / Harrappa... He will accomplish your wish before you deminish.
4. You are against composition of Thiruvasagam in Symphony. You see, there are plenty of books or musics available on other subjects. Thiruvasagam is something rare which will become popular. Be happy that our traditional songs of sanga kalam getting a revival from the Maestro. (It seems that he was once interested in briging out all Malakartha ragams (72) in Western Classical Fusion. One such attempt was Maya Malava Gowla Rag in 'How to Name it' Album. It had excellent reviews from Critics but total silence from many such as you, who were ignorant of Rags or Thalas. Hence he did not proceed further. You can ask him to take up the project. He may respect U.)
5. There may be 10000 of people who perform Symphony day in and Out. But Iam sure that only very few like your son, will be able to polishly fusion the South indian classics, preserved for Centuries.
6. There is no need for Ur son to loot money. If he spins his Old songs in Bollyhood and TV Commercials, through his sons and his faithfull musicians, he can mint money. To bring ARR flavour, he has to just take his old song, add an appropriate Rhythm Beat and impose Extra Bass and Mix under DTS. No need to Loot but he can Mint Money. You can please Advise him.
7. You wonder where is his first Symphony. Subbudu as well as Lord webber have given fine reviews of his maiden performance. You may contact them.
8. Fans are not brainwashed. IR Fans accept raw talent - if they really possess abundant talent. ARR Showed signs of great talent from 1992, which gradually declined in 2002. 10 Years - 120 Movies. Do U know that your son gave 600+ films from 1982 to 1992. (That is real Talent). HJ is pretty good in Songs as well as BGM. This has to continue. I think IR Fans will accept this.)
9. Pervert Sexual Desires ? At this age do u still see Desibaba.com & Desimama.com Too bad. These site keeps on popping up when opened alongwith newtfmpage. Still, you can minimize it

the starting strings piece in the song "hayyayyo pudichurukku" from 'Saami' seems to be a faster version of the "pooppol poopol" starting flute piece from "Minnaley".
the song "Uyirin uyire" from 'Kaakha kaakha' sounds to be similar to the title music in 'Annamalai' TV serial..!!!

I have never visited such sites but have seen the links in the recent internet files folder in my sons PC. So, thank you for opening my eyes on this issue. I never knew that they were pervert sites. I will caution my aged marumaga and ask my peyran Karthik's wife to be carefull and cautious.
And to your rest of your posting, it is the same thing for years and years you people and my son himself are saying. But nothing has happened in ground. Tamil music is where it is and there will be no difference in the scene even when my son dies.

The Humming at the end(starting from 4:40 to the end) of the song Secret of Success is very similar to the humming in a hindi pop album song which was released few years back. I am not able to recollect the song or the album name.
Did anyone notice this.
PS: I mean no offense to ARR or his fans, me being a die had fan of him(and being a pride owner of every Tamil Movie Cassette for which ARR has scored the music till date including Boys). The tunes in BOYS sound very much inspired.

hey Balu i see some similarity in Secret of success with "Ho gayi mohabat" by Aslam mustafa, but u know something he worked with ARR and he got the feel of ARR's music.. he told that in an interview too.... probably it's an ARR tune too.. u mite never know...

sevvai desa sorgam sendru from Three roses is a ditto copy of the song Played - A - Live(the Bongo Song) by the safri duo. Sevvai desa was probably the pick in the album and it has been copied shamelesssly by KArthik Raja

ABOVE ALL THE MUSIC DIRECTORS,
THE FIRST PLACE GOES FOR HARRIS JAYARAJ.
"MADDY MADDY" FROM MINNALE IS 99% COPIED FROM AN ENGLISH ALBUM IS ONE GOOD EXAMPLE TO RPOVE THAT HE GOT MASTER'S DEGREE IN COPYING.
1% IS SOME OF ADDED LYRICS.

Maddy, you are right. The 'oh oh oh ...' part at the end of Secrets of Success song sounds like the Aslam Mustafa number 'Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat...'.
And the 'Ale Ale...' number reminds me of some old TFM song. The stanzas somehow remind me of Nayagan's 'Anthi Mazhai Megam...' . Does anyone else felt the same way ?
But, without doubt ...'Girlfriend' is my pick of the album. Karthik has sung this one fabulously.
The good thing about him is he sounds as sophisticated as you want to be in a western number like this and at the same time sing Tamil in such a way without having an artificial accent (which many people would have singing western tunes) which keeps the lyrics intact.

One:
Looks like IR's song "MaankuyilE poonkuyilE" is an innovative recycle of the song "Sondham illai bandham illai" from AnnakkiLi
Two:
To me "Adi Raakamaa Kaiya thattu.." from Thalapathi looks like a re-arranged version of "Raja kaiya vachchaa" from Aboorva sagOdharargaL. If you remove the violin piece from Raakamaa song and sing the tune continously in high pitch you get "Raja kaiya vachchaa". The progression of the Saranam also seems to be very very similiar.
Any takes?

Senthiv,
We are talking about lifts from other sources in this thread. We can talk about recycling till no end. And even then the above mentioned are not recycles by any standard.

Have added the original of 'Akele hain' from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. A blatant and direct rip-off.

Karthik, I have diffciulty playing the audio clips sometimes in your site. Gives an error message. This is a good find though. R.D.Burman's lifts which rank the maximum should be an eye opener to many Hindi listeners. Considering that "Ghazab ka" was also inspired I am wondering if Papa kehte hain was in some way inspired too :-)

Hi,
I happened to hear the title song from the film 'annamalai' recently and it reminded me of an old Marathi film song 'dolkara, dolkara'. I hardly hear any new songs (songs from the 90s onwards), but this song definitely has been copied from the Marathi film song which is at least three decades old. In do not know the MD for the Tamil film.
