How about PS's pronounciation in Hindi..?
She didnt seriously try in Hindi, because of the understanding with Lata ( Why I am required when lata is there? -- PS's comment), but few songs
she tried in hindi. Her pronounciation is appreciated in all south indian languages. what about hindi ?

Hi guys,
can any1 give me the link for "Endhan pon vanname anbu poo vannme" sung by P. Susheela in "Naan vazha vaipen". TMS has sung the same song for Sivaji where PS sung for brother of that handicapped girl (Raji). I could not find PS's version of Endhan pon vanname in any audio cassette or CD.
Can any1 try?

Unfortunately I havent heard enough of PS in Hindi to tell you about that. But I have heard both Janaki and Vani. of the two, I personally believe that Janaki's Hindi pron. was much better.

Dont U think Yesudas did a good and decent job for Ravindra jain for Chitchor,I dont remember the movies but the songs Jaaneman jaaneman there do nayan and kahan se aaye badira, Oh ghoriya re htere aane se saj gayi, Dil ke tukde tukde karke many more everything was a gem .I thought he was excellent.I somehow feel SPB accent was not that great though bearable.

I think VJ sings well in Hindi .She has an excellent accent compared to SJ.Boli re papi hara and Humko manki shakti dena in Guddi .SJ has sung all light no's like Yaar bina chayan kahan re or bol baby bol something like that.I am not sure of SJ 's accent to be so good in Hindi.

PS has paired with Kishore kumar 2 songs from "Simhasan". It was a remake of a telugu movie in Hindi (produced by actor krishna). She sung one for Radha and another for Jayapradha. It was ok.
Hey Vidya, I have an autograph of Susheela (i took it in 1995). It was a good chat with her for 5 mins.
Am really wondering how people remember her and her cntribution to TFM.. really great.

KJY,SPB,VJ - no...I dont agree.
SJ - yes surely. When I had heard "yaar bina chain kahaan re", I thought it was Asha!! Of course, there is some similarity between their voices...but SJ is excellent for mimicry, and that has helped her pick up all the fine parts of the foreign accent(s).
BTW digression - I had heard that Janaki has a couple of songs in German too. Any idea about that?

BTW Janaki has sung a few classical songs in Hindi for LP:
Pag Padam Sangeet Geet Sargam...MOVIE: NAACHE MAYURI
and
Prabhuji tere sharan ... MOVIE: SUR SANGAM
She has recently sung an album of Sai Bhajans in Hindi. I didnt like that one so much, but the two songs mentioned above were great!

You included PS also.... mmmm!!! How many of her songs you heared in Hindi.. Can you mention few ? If possible mention the exact words, which you feel her accent is bad. I will be happy to listen her hindi songs.. if you get me the details.

thanks for your views.
I thought Ps accent was not so great in Mohabbat ka paigam but her old songs one with SD Burman and one with Ramesh ?Naidu were great!!!! I was really surprised how well Ps can sing when there sia good MD.
Well as avr suggested SJ , imitates Asha bhosle a lot. If U listen carefully yaar bina chain kahan re see the stress.I somehow feel VJ was great!!! I still think Bolire papi hara couldnt have sung so sweetly by SJ.
Most song swhich SJ sung I think was for Bappi Lahiri and Lakshmikant Pyarelal disco no or some cheap no's except in Sur sangam which anyway was not so great!!,They wanted a imitating voice for Asha bhosle.It is only my feeling.
But avr I feel Yesudas was good!!!

vidya: its wrong to say that SJ is trying to imitate Asha. They took SJ for Sur Sangam because she was SJ...not because they wanted any replacement for anybody else. SJ has her own distinct voice which is her own and which is similar sometimes to Asha's.
All I meant is that SJ sounds like a completely native Hindi singer in "Yaar bina chain kahaan re". SJ has sung many Hindi songs for Salilda (www.salilda.com) and many of them are excellent. Mostly she sang in Hindi in the 80s. She has sung for Rajesh Roshan also.

I like the song "Tu Hai Raja" from Varumaiyin Niram Chivapu. I wanted the lyrics of that song. Since I didn't know Hindi, I asked my northy friend (whose mother tongue is Hindi) to get the lyrics by listening to that. But he was confused at so many places. He couldn't get the sentences at many places and filled with his own sentences. Finally he criticised enough. Was it the problem with MSV's insturementation/tune?

I know of an old Talat-Jikki duet in some Hindi movie. MD Gyan Dutt. I doubt whether Talat and PS had any Hindi duet together. Maybe it was in some Telugu film? If u have a link containing songs by PS in Hindi, do post them. Also do forward me any .rm or .mp3 files....if u have them.

The felicitation to Dr PS is by Telugu Kala Samithi, organisation by Telugus at Kuwait. Good to note the feliciations abroad if not in Andhra. How come the Telugu Film world has not honoured Dr PS. Her contribution to Telugu paralells her contribution to TFM and more. Thanks Kalai for the link.

Andhra university had honored PS with Hon. Dr Title many years back. Andhra people still respect her very much, may not be the MDs and Producers.

If you listen to PS 's Tamizhukku amuthenru per & you don't get goose pimples you are
a) stone deaf
b) can't understand Tamizh
c) do not love the language .
d) all of the above
That her mother tongue is telugu makes it all the more beautiful.It is only because of such diversity India still exists.

You are right.It is only the Telugu Film World which has failed to felicitate her. The Doctorate was given in US and not in AP. Recently she was honoured with the Telugu Thalli awards at Vizag. What I meant was that no felicitations have been done as in Tamil. Her Silver Jubilee was of course in Andhra and very big gathering. HMV had come with a special record in her honour. But now they have not even brought an edition in "Legends" either. Neither a programme in Gemini/Teja.

I was just listening (a number of times..) to a song from the movie "Vanangamudi" a Sivaji/Savithri starrer. I have seen that movie myself a long time back. The song is "Raja Yogame", a very rare compostion by the legendary GR (whom I like all these years) and a legendary voice no other than our PS (who else could have). We should be proud of ourselves for having such an institution in our midst. (compare her to Maria Callas). It seemed very ambient to me to listen to such a great voice, we all are blessed to hear over the last 50 years or so. I suggest that someone go back and dissect that song again. What a lyric/compostion and a voice?. They have converged to form an oasis of listening pleasure. Am I biased towards PS...damn right I am..........I dont hesitate to say that....She is the best mezzo soprano we have ever had in playback singing. Also listen to "Mannulegellam" from UP by GR. Not that I dont like Jikki from Mandiri kumari or Chellapillai ( referring to Ulavum Thendral...and Vadana En Raaja).....superb rendition........but one should admit that PS is far beyond that...PS's technorythmic voice surpasses all boundaries. Well some people might argue that there are singers who are more versatile than PS......I respectfully disagree....There's been a lot of noise that IR had treated PS in a different way and gave her mediocre songs. I have been listening IR since his debut movie. I dont see any merits to those arguments either. PS had mentioned in her latest interview that Maestro IR had treated her with dignity and respect..I now know...why.......Though she had collaborated with him in tamil for over 200 songs, she had sung for him more in his telugu ventures all along.
