OMG,
here goes the nxt bomb earlier in another thread whne i said even ARR accepted that thiruda thiruda was a flop at the time of release every ARR fan laughed at me.
well here read this answer in an kumudam interview and judge for urselfSuccess and failures are both burdens.. How to handle these two?
ARR:
Both are equally good. I think both are required in one's life. I had couple of failed movies in Telugu. I think that failure also decided the direction of my career. If they had clicked I would have gone in a different direction into Telugu films. The failures happened for a reason and I am where I am now.. I am happy with all outcomes. There is no control over what fate has in store for me. Today I am in London, tomorrow? Who knows what is in store for me? Sometime failures comes because the music might be ahead of its times. For example when "Thiruda Thiruda" came out the movie and its music were not RECEIVED WELL. But now people tell me that the music of this film is one my best. Everything happens for a reason and always turns out to be good.

here is another story,
a MD speaking abt markets
What was the reception in America for Lagaan for which you worked?
ARR:
Lagaan has been a welcomed all over the world. It has increased the horizons of our film industry. We have reached international markets. This is the time we have to be careful, because all eyes are on us. I am also trying to create music keeping this in mind. There is a wider audience now and greatly scrutiny of our work.
so he is now careful to market his music well.

and finally the nuclear bomb,
How important is the Tamil identity to you?
ARR:
I hate the discrimination between south, north, Tamil, Hindi. If I represent India that is good enough for me. Of course, I have always been here. But we should cross all these barriers and think bigger. I get very irritated with this kind of thinking.
But has your Tamil identity given you anything special?
ARR:
Definitely. But I see the entire world as a living place. Suddenly a category called world music has come and we are all able to relate to it. In all probability in a couple of years all the cultures will meet. There won't be any English or Tamil music. We will all be able to relate to 'music'. That is the ultimate thing..
now dont come up asking me wats wrong in it. u asked for proofs ive provided them.its my opinion that its wrong may be ull fell right. k no more arguements. enjoy reading.
good bye

even Rupert murdoch doesnt like these kinds of discriminations.
even BIll gates doesnt like these kinds of discriminations
the ultimate slogan of MNC's is ONE WORLD ONE CULTURE. In the name of world and culture we r being exploited. good for all those who hav accepted these. the kingdom of god is open to all of them. the name of GOD IS MARKET - as quoted by the CEO of SONY.

maddy, who ever.
Every one knows about ARR,s awars, north hits BD,etc..
It is not like that we came to know from you!!!.
But with IR he is nowhere.
You less than 10 years old don't know. We have seen IR's work for the TF industry and ARR and HJ,YSR,VS etcc. In the film industry every one is realisind how ARR made the film industry to suck.We outsider don't know.
You can make ARR ever No.1 in this discussion forum not in Tamilnadu. Imagine usaya,KV,parasuram etc. Do you want still more?.
My advise please don't sell ARR in this forum try to listern HJ,YSR...who ever performing now.

rajasaranam has posted an ARR reply where ARR apparently says TT not being recieved well initially and then every1 appreciating the music later.
How the heck is this is the same as ARR accepting TT is a flop!!!!!?????????? rajasaranam argued so much that ARR himself accepted TT was flop! Nonsense!!!!
interestingly someone posted the following in the ARR group today and I thought it was a beginning of an ARR syndrome where his music was initially not felt as great but people lapped it up all the time in the end.
here it is from yahoogroups of arr:
'Thiruda Thiruda' was probably the first instance of Rahman's music not being liked in the first hearing ('Roja', 'Pudhiya Mugam'
and 'Gentleman' were liked by everybody pretty much in the first hearing itself). I for one certainly didn't like TT when I heard it for the first time. Same was the case with quite a few of my friends as well.

hey rajasranam, wat happened man.. ur family was affected by any MNC or wat?? today half the tamils are working in a MNC and paying tax to a foreign govt...... ur IR's sons use equipments from a MNC.......so stop accusing MNC's and ARR... his concept of global music is very true and will happen in a very few years....
xml, cassete sales of IR and ARR in the last 11 years doesent show that ARR is out and IR is in.. it is the other way around.... IR had lost all the big banners and produced only one chartbuster kadalukku mariyadhai whereas ARR produced many mega-hit albums in these 11 years... apni bakwaas bandh karo..... and accept that history will be like this:
1960-1974 --- MSV-TKR
1974-1992 --- IR
1992-still on --- ARR
y do u always forget Boys after KV,parasuram, udaya..... ur IR also gave a patch of bad movies like "Maindhan, azhagar koil...."

MADDY,
many of the INDIANS were not affected directly when we were fighting for our freedom.V.O.C was a wealthy man and had no problems at all living under a british rule why the hell was he fighting againnst them. almost 95% of british army in india consisted of Indians. almost 80% of officers and government employees were indians.British government was doing excellent job in creating roadways, railways postal service etc., in our country. they gav us the modern political system, law enforcement bodies civic ameneties etc., THEN WHY THE HELL WE FOUGHT OUR FREEDOM??????

Tejas,
read his interview carefully.in an earlier post i said that thiruda thiruda was a flop album during the release of the movie. may be it got its credits later on but not while the movie was in theatres.
ARR has said the same thing
"For example when 'Thiruda Thiruda' came out the movie and its music were not RECEIVED WELL."
how will a MD directly say that his music was a flop?????

MADDY,
ocassional flops and constant flops hav some difference. never in IRs peak period there were flops continuosly for 3 long years. even now BOYS is a hit only within young, college going and urban community. and also within ARR fans.

MADDY and NTeja,
its a marketing strategy to spread news thro media to make a album sell more. if ur aware of the modern marketing techniques u wudnt ask me such a question.unwarranted hypes and promotion are common in every industry we look around. saying 2 lakhs units or 3 lakh units being sold fall within these categories.did u people went in for stock verification???? before the audio of boys was released The hindu gav the statistics as only 60,000 orders were there for boys as compared to Indians 6 lakh units. if they produced only 60,000 units how did they sell 3 lakh units????? my doubt is - to sell that 60,000 units the media hype is being given.and audio piracy is at its peak now. there were duplicate audio CDs and Cassettes[leave alone MP3's] of Boys in the market within 45 minutes of the audio release. r they including pirated units in their statistics????
BTW the link for that interview is here

it was frm a july2002 issue of kumudam.

FOLLOWUP:
and if ur going to include pirated audio u can never reach the heights IR had reached. i remember every home having a recorded cassette of IR frm a local audio store. a empty TDK cassette of 90 minutes will accomodate atleast 3 movies of IR and it costed only RS.20 for recording. that was the most economical way a common man cud afford for IRs albums. i even remember one of my freinds house where he bought a new double cassette player in which recording can be done. during school days when we were deprived of money to buy cassettes we used to go to him and get the songs recorded. and every single unit of a cassette in a recording store was re- recorded atleast 400 times.
to sum up we can come up with a figure nearing 40-50 lakhs units of sale for every IRs hit albums.
