  this song is similar to:
  
  (1) thuLLith thuLLi pOgum peNNe
  (2) naan eNNum pozuthu
  (3) naaLaam naaLaam thiru naaLaam
  (4) ni..sa ..ga..ma pa..ni..
  
  the problem is that I donto know many ragams names though I may identify some smilarities.

  silkfort: Yes, 'kaathalin deepam ondru' is a mixture of vaasanthi (more prominent) and chrukesi.
  In 'atho mega orrvalam', IR mixed Vaasanthi beautifully with Hamsadhwani .

  when i heard the theme music of 'Pulp fiction' i was amazed to find that it was in pucca mayamalagowlai. Can you recollect any other western tunes/songs which fit so well with carnatic tunes ?

  RR: In any Carnatic Chandrakauns song, only N3 is allowed, of course in the Hindustani version, both Ni's are allowed!!!!! :) I owuld say that this particular song edges more to the Hindolam(Malkauns) anyway.

  Neels: Isai Arasi is in SALLABHAM - the only film song I know in this very rare Raga. KJJ has also sung a Thirupugazl in this Raga.

  Lalitha: Patchai Nirame from Alaypayudhe is predominantly in KARAHARAPRIYA....ARR also did Veesum Thendral Kaatrinile in Mona Lisa in the same Ragam. IR has a wonderful, Classical number, Poo Malardhidum from Tik Tik Tik.

  is "ninnaiye rathi endru ninaikkiraenadi kannamma" by MSV set in chandrakauns? also can somebody tell me the raga for "orayiram parvaiyela un parvaiyai nan arivaen" (guess T.R.Pappa music for an Ashokan starrer movie). I think this also resembles chandrakauns. pls clarify

  Yes Kannan, 'haris' is right, they are both in Kalyana Vasantham. By the way, Haris, which country are you in? Just curious, I notice that you have an Oracle domain name......I used to work for them in the UK.
  
  Dr S.Kannan: ISAI ARASI is a well known Rare song, simply because of it's Raga, SALLABHAM. It doesn't really resemble Chandrakauns, so I can't see where you are getting your information from. KJJ's devotional number, I think IYAL ISAIYIL UCHITHA is also in this raga, he does an Aalabana and then says the name of the Raga in the tape before commencing the piece!
