Illayraja was rated highly. because he had the ability to give compose more than few good songs in a single movie. I didn't go for the 3 or more good songs scale as this page won't be enough. He did most of these works in 80s some in late 70s. I might have left out a few.

well, all 3 were great flops..... kadhaaal rojaave - the movie took its own time to be released - but the songs were played at many place - and were hits - especially cause of SPB's voice.....

Yaaro
Dharma *ed Vijaykanth & Preetha(Vijayakumar), a fit case for paedo.... dir: Keyaar
MVU - Prabhu, Meena dir: Sivachandiran
I think both were released to obscurity in 1998.
Kadhal Rojave was another torture inflicted by Keyaar (who seems to be blessed with IR's benevolence) which starred a debutant Vishnu (actress Sheela's son) in the lead role, never had a commercial release methinks..

Ravi, what you say tempts me... Finding them will be quite a project. Anyway, i have heard the first 2 of the songs from 'Pattakathi Bhairavan' you have listed out. I like them both a lot. I have also heard 2 songs from 'Aaradhanai.' I like them so-so. Probably I'll like them more the more I listen to them.

Is aathma in 80s? If it is, then this has to be in the list.I rate Innarul tharum annapoorani as the best IR bakthi song.

Speaker, no, Athma came out in 1993. I have it in my thread entitled Super Hit Songs in movies by IR in 90s to date. :-)

Purv:
Sorry I was long gone..but I am back..
Thanks for updating the list. Surely seems it can hit 100 pretty easily.
Regarding your remark that Rajaangham had only two songs listed in Aaradhani.. Yes..many of IR's wonderful songs are missed, probably because many have not heard them. But after hearing, many would agree. There are some even I do not remember but the forum members may be able to add to the list.
Although I do go by others' recommendations, but when I was in India in 1999 I deceided that I was going to hunt down the rarest of IRs. So I pretty much have recorded most of the songs of IR in the 70s and 80s. Radio Ceylon used to frequently broadcast some of the best of IR at that time, but even they have missed quite a few.
As I write this I need to say how I became so interested in IR...if it is not too much of a digression..
When I entered engineering college in 78 that was the time IR's music was all over the place, but there was no good audio systems for private listening. We had a warden who was tinkering with the spool tape recorders, but we happened to break one of his spools so he never allowed us to touch that after that. The Japanese flat tape recorders were just beginning to appear in those shops in Trichy and Madras, but I and a good friend of mine decided to build a tape and stereosystem ourselves to enjoy IR's songs..So we built a doube PC 100W audio board with a preamplifier circuit that came in Science Today, the electronics magazine at that time (I am not sure whether it still is published). We got a tape deck from a local electronic shop (those days we used call them Delhi-sets) And we used the hostel room book shelves and a good pot we bought from a pot maker to make a sort of our own hi-fi system.. We were amazed to see how those songs sounded..Although our system was primitive to the present days' sytems..it sounded like that we never heard before.
We used to hunt down the recording shops in Coimbatore and even go to the audio guys (who sets up music for functions and weddings) borrow the LPS and such things and have our own recordings done with our own graphic equilizers. This is probably the time when I learnt quite a bit of audio electronics and so on.. We were also crazy about some of the western hits like "Kung Fu Fighting," Saturday Night Fever, Funcky Town, One Way Ticket to the Blue, some of ABBA albums and so on. So it was interesting to compare the pops with IR's own Tamil pops of that time..
So IR's 70s and 80s songs are sort of dear to me. One needs to hear these things with a good audio system from a well recorded tape.
Sorry for the digression...but your topic was interesting and I wanted to add a few of my thoughts.

Interesting story, Mr. Ravi. The credit in part goes to you for adding some entries I would never think of on my own, esp. 'Magane Magane'. And Mr. Uthaman, don't forget, he's the one that started this thread. I just took up the task of summing up the entries of all contributors on this thread. (I really love list making).

Speaking of songs Raajangahm missed out on, are there any other incorrect figures for any movies? (plenty, I'm certain). ex., 'Nallavanukku Nallavan' has more than just 4 songs, I know for a fact. While films like Kavitha Malar, Manaivi Solle Manthiram, Illam, Thunai Iruppaal Meenakshi, etc. have no songs data.

How about albums like Koyil Pura, Garjanai, Naan Potta Savaal, Archanai Pookkal, Indru Poi Naalai Vaa, etc.? Did these have 4 or more hit songs? Could someone pl. verify? (just curiosity) :-)

Illam - this had a very good number - "Nandavanaam poothirukku adi ammaaadi, vaandu vandhu aaadi paadathaaan".....
Koyil Pura - "Sangeethaaamaeee, en theivamaeee", "Amudhaey, Thamizhaey azhageyaaa mozheyaee, enadhuiraee"....

Dear someone!! If you have the song 'Kaathal Ennum Koil' from the movie "Kazhugu", please help me get it. My CD doesn't have that particular number in it. I am desperately seeking that song to make a Karaoke track. My uncle gets some band in India to do the recording of the music track without the vocals. They need the original song to do that. Please if anyone has it mail me. Thanks alot.
