UV,
"As fas as ARR he uses Mac and carries one wherever he goes and no wonder we hear amsynth one :)
And thanks for waking up this thread with good
music "
Is that true? I mean, I heard, when I was working for Imageline-Pavell that he was using/uses FruityLoops, and they don't have a release for Mac.

A question to cake walk users : Would anyone of you let me know how to fade a midi track ? The Help stuff doesnt work out for me. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Hi Vishvesh,
If you need to fade out (or) fade in a midi track, select the track and view the "Piano Roll View" (That's the button with an octave of piano keys) Then in "Piano Roll View" Select "Control" (on the left) and in control select "Volume" (to the right of control)
Now Select either the "Draw line" or the "Draw" (the pencil button) and with that draw a line in the lower grid (where you can see grids from 0 to 127) As you know 0 is the lowest and 127 is the highest volume. (If you can't see the grids from 0 to 127, Click the "show/hide control panel" button located to the left bottom of the screen)
Draw lines as you wish and you are done! Good Luck.

MIDI Ulagam is maintained by RJAY who's very popular in MIDI circle. Send him an Email and see the possibility of including yours in there. He's the moderator of that Site. BTW i have never contributed anything to that page.
Just in case you're interested, you could listen to RJAY's music at
http://www.mp3.com/rjay
You could also join MP3.com as an artist ( you don't have to pay anything to them )...post your music and let people know about it.
Best Wishes to you.

Aditya

Aditya,
Around 2 years ago, I was working on their FruityDJ project. An MP3 mixer software. I was working from Chennai for them, with a company that subcontracted the project for them. I shouldn't say that I am an ex-Imageline guy since I didn't work very long for them, as I took up an offer from the US. I used to do minor stuff for FruityLoops for them, my major work was on FruityDJ. I remember creating a remote control for the FruityLoops, don't know if they are using it or not. It was a fantastic experience, though. Since, the guy called JMC helped me rediscover my "hidden talents in programming". Sometimes, I feel I made a mistake leaving them, well that is in past.
See Ya,
Eswar

It was nice to know about your background with ImageLine.
BTW, What did you mean by Remote Control for the FruityLoops? Was it related to their MIDI Automation feature or something else?
I think FruityDJ is now FruityTracks which can mix MP3 and Wav along with FruityLoops native Project.

Aditya

Aditya,
When I was working, there was a second product called FruityTracks, since I remember trying to 'hack' into it to find out additional stuff related to my project. Both FruityDJ and FruityTracks use the same set of components for playing back MP3 files.
Well, it was more on the line of controlling FruityLoops running on a different machine. Control it's volume, start, stop etc. I donot if it was supposed to be integrated, or it was to 'test' my programming abilities, since I had just joined them.
Let me see if I can find out some link for that FruityDJ thing.
Later,

Guys,
I am serious planning to buy a good keyboard. I am very very new to synthesiser business, (although, I have worked on software synths). I would like to know which is the keyboard that could give me good tonnel qualities, a good synthesiser. I was thinking of Korg ones. Which do you suggest? (+ I need good MIDI interaction with my computers)
Thanks

Eswar:
Following are the some of the general factors in deciding a keyboard.
Factors for deciding keyboards in the market depending on one's requirement
- Live Performance
- Studio Performance
Factors for deciding keyboard in the market depending on one's skill level, or depending on to what extent somebody wants to leverage their music skills
- Arranger Keyboards
- Music Workstations/Samplers/Synthesizer
Then depending on what kind of instruments that you would be interested plays a vital role in choosing a keyboard.
Srikanth is very good in choosing the instrument based on tonal qualities...Hope he pitches in here to give some details on which one is good for what...
According to me, the tonal qualities are almost comparable/competitive in high end keyboards. Manufacturers also seem to work on common sound engine across several good models of their keyboard to satify tonal requirements with different in the User Interface.
Good Luck in buying a good keyboard.

Aditya

Going by brand names...
In High end Live Arranger Market...Roland VA-7, Yamaha PSR 9000 Pro and Korg PA80/Korg I-30 are popular...
In Mid range Live Arranger Market...Yamaha PSR series wins...
Synths...
Korg Triton, Roland Phantom and Yamaha Motif are popular...
Check out the features of these ...that's the best way to start.

I'd go for for Triton or Motif. I own a Triton and its great.

Triton's are ok, but personally I think that it all depends on what kind of music you are into. The motif is a really cool keyboard but be warned - you will have to really be prepared to tear your hair out when you get it. But eh support is just awesome. Check out motifator.com You will have answers to all your questions and you also have people from Yamaha on the list. They answer questions very regularly, and personally, I havent had any problems. I think I have only good things to say about the motif. It really isnt as if the triton is bad. It's just that the motif maybe better depending on what kind of music you are into.....
Hope I have ended up confusing you enough to buy both... :-)
