I have heard kassi songs, all are rendered by the same old ***Nasal*** hariharan, he sings all the songs like half-dead person, no punch, ne expression, no life, no modulation in his voice, but he does have superb ***NASAL*** voice!
If this film was to be super hit, IR should have used SPB's Royal Highness voice, like, he used SPB in "Chinathambi","Kadhal Oviyam","Salnghai Oli", etc.
But why does IR spoils all his master pieces by giving it the nasal singer, hariharan, IR spoilt many of great tunes during the 90's by giving the songs to the "cheap Imitator of SPB", Mano, Why is IR not making use of the MAJESTIC VOICE OF DR.SPB???

"IR needs to change his style, the same nattuppura beats"
Vimal, agreed having different percussion sounds makes it more novel and appealing but what you are saying is like - somebody programming in Java is more advanced/sophisticated than somebody programming in C++. The language does not matter, it is the complexity/creativity behind the logic in the program that is important, right ? Same for music, you have to get past the sound to the notes.
Anyways, Re: Dheena - it is an okay album. the vaththikuchchi song sounds very similar to the nee illai enRAl song to me. Even IR, it seems, commented that there are only two songs in the album. But ..the nee illai enRAl song is full of energy and am quite impressed.
aruLaracan..whether you and me like it or not (even KR :) ) YSR will be the next most successful MD (after ARR) in recent times (my guess). He understands what the market wants ..even if it is a matter of bottling the old wine in a new bottle. He is a kid but too smart for his age, give him sometime and he will soon be demanding the highest fees..
Still I think, you and me will be hunting for albums to listen :) :) :)

kiru,
whatever it is, Kasi and Azhagi have failed to impress me, big time, you should be knowing that I am an HCIRF, so please take that I don't mean to offend anybody.
Reg. Dheena, the songs are all quite fresh and different, and I am addicted to "En Nenjil...", if you notice, it is a great mix of fast and slow music, the pallavi and charanam being slow, but the interludes are fast and dynamic. Yuvan has sheer talent. Try playing that song in your car and tell me. Great use of the Sax and the guitar, Yuvan's orchestration far exceeds ARR and HJ.

Guys,
I dont understand ur concern reg azhagi and kasi, at all. What i feel is the songs fit the story and the KALAM of those movies. U can't expect a village blind man sings a song with lot of percussions and modern drum beats, right? Avanukku therinchathu ellaam, mElam, koTu kind of vaatthiyangal thaan, illayaa? Since u expect modern music, it doesn't mean that the songs are bad or IR is out of form. What a crazy kind of thinking, it is? If u want to understand the songs, try to visualize the movie background. IR is not such a kind of crap MD, who puts tunes crazily for a village based movie. Even in lot of threads, i have seen that, whenever it comes to kiraamatthu paatu or dappanguthu kind of song, u guys start criticising them like anything. I dont understand at all. Kiraamatthu padatthukku, manvaasanaiyulla songs thaanyaa kudukka mudiyum. Karakaattakkaaran padatthula, "maanguyilae poonguyilae" paatu irunthaa athu kuttham. Crap song!!! Athae, "Indha maan unthan sontha maan" paatu superb!!! Ennayyaa, unga understanding. The same kind of criticism came for azhagi too. Most of the guys expressed "kuruvi kodanja" song as a crap. How come u decide upon? U still dont know the situation of the song and dont know about for whom the song is for??? Chumma, nadodiyaa, kuravan kuratthi paadura paataa irukkalaam illiyaa? Neenga modern-aa change aayitteenga appideengirathukkaaka, IR-um, padatthula, scene-ukku apt-aa irukko illiyo, sema mettu onnu podanum appidinnu ethirpaarthaa, eppidinga sir??:)
For Kasi, as someone in some thread told, the songs are for a blind man and not for a chinnathambi kind of guy, who has isaignanam. IR might have put the tunes for that character as explained by the director. Summa, inga ukkaandhuttu, IR lost his magic touch, IR lost his sense, IR should quit, bla, bla, bla appidinnu sollittu irukkirathu niyaayamaa?? Just have a think about it. IR might have chosen HH for Kasi, by knowing his so called "nasal" voice, no? Becos, he might have a thought that HH fits the character of a blind man, we always see in Metro trains and streets. Since they are blind, they dont know anything about BHAAVAM. May be HH is the best fit for it. May be in the movie, Vikram might have sung the songs without much variations in his expression. That's the way it should be. I bet u guys, the songs would be the best fit for both the movies.-- IMHO. Wait and see.....:)
To me, both azhagi and kasi are very good albums. May be for u guys, u have to hear the songs some more times, without any bias and most importantly, pl dont have a thinking about other albums like FRIENDS, DHEENA etc., while listening azhagi and kasi.
See u later......

Guys we are going off track in the thread, Killing of great tunes by giving it Hariharan should be stopped, He completely kills up the lyrics and deliberately tries to make his voice more Ganam in the Base which just sounds like a eRUmail madu Grunting....He should realise that classical or ghazal singing is totally different from Film songs, The genius of yesudas has sung great many film songs without showing any trace of gamaka or a brika for example In Kanne kalaimane....it is such a deliteful tune that a carnatic artiste can definetely get carried away by the beauty of the tune but he serves it just rite by limiting himself to plainer notes If HH is great Ghazal singer then he shud show his prowess in Stage and not at the cost of spoiling fil songs....Majority of the people I talk with think so,But Y not these MD's I dont understand

kiru: :-)). i wish ysr matures (musically); i wish ysr creates more of his own music than using 'packages'; i wish k.r gets more chances (he is probably the best of the present generation composers; his melodies are too good to come from such a young person; hm... :-( ); i wish someone more knowledgeable and with more creativity writes lyrics for arr songs; hope springs eternal! (and the hunt never stops :-)) )

Ram;
well said, thing topic is going off the track, let me repeat the topic agai,
"IR again spoils his "kasi" songs by not giving it SPB, why??? ", OK, it is not about YSR,ARR, but about IR + SPB.
ram, you are right in saying that HH TRY'S to have ganam(bass) in his voice, but HH lacks the enormous ganam in SPB's voice, hence he should never ever attempt to sing lower notes, he sings in false voice at higher notes, sounding nasal & irritating, he strains a lot at higher notes, he kills, killed & will kill most of the great tunes, which should have naturally gone to SPB, some how these MD are heard of hearing or very reluctant to change this irritating trend of nasal singers.
SPB must come back to TFM, he still rulz the "telugu" world, where nasal singers do not get many chances,HH,Shanker, Srinivas, Udit, Kumar,Sonu, all sound the same, no uniqueness, SPB is the only unique singer in India!!!!

Well said, IR has problem with SPB, so he does not use SPB in his songs, it is rather a shame, to watch nasalist Hariharan spoiling all the songs, with his bad voice!

Telugu listeners after listening to legendary singer Ghantasala’s Bhagwad Gita for more than thirty years would now have the second choice to the great philosophical verses rendered by none-other than ace playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam. Music is composed by veteran Tamil music director Pughalendhi and it is being released by GSK Melody Presentation. Bigwigs like Ramoji Rao and T. Subbirami Reddy praised the mellifluous voice of SPB who has ruled the roost for more than three decades before releasing the cassette at a grand function at Sri Satyasai Kalyana Mandapam.

A LIVING LEGEND
HEARTY congratulations to SP Balasubrahmaniam on winning the prestigious Padmashri Award this year. The award, a little laate in coming, is one more feather in the already crowded cap of this great singer whose golden voice has enthralled music-lovers all our India. In a long and glittering career spanning four decades, SPB has scaled many peaks as a singer, actor and music director par excellence. His monumental achievements have earned him a place in the list of all-time greats in the Indian film industry. In an age when cacophony passes off as music, SPB’s rich and sonorous voice assures connoisseurs of music that melody in music is still alive and kicking. No wonder then that he is called a living legend.
