We can together sponsor an IR album !!!

Guys & gals, I have already put this stuff in one of the therads. But, owing to the poor response, I am starting it as a topic. I am sure if some of us get together, we can sponsor an album of say, IR's great BGM pieces or something like that. I really miss listening to them. I am sure we could raise the funds over a period of time.
Interested people, please respond in this thread. We will have to plan out the details also.

Hi!
I am giving here the sleeve notes of the album 'Nothing but Wind', written by Mr. Victor Rangel Ribeiro, USA, a highly respected musicologist. He is the author of "Baroque Music- A Practical Guide to performers".
I'm sure we can locate this person and get his opinion on our mission and seek his help too.
Ok, here it goes...
*****
In a land of prolific composers, Ilaiyaraaja has become a legend. In the past twelve years he has written music for morw than 425 films, plus a score and more of non-film albums. And his musical creativity shows only signs of increasing.
Another reason for his success and his endless stream of melody lies in his own approach to music. He has said: "I have no parameters to restrict myself. Whatever comes to my mind, I have no hesitation in doing... I have no bonds." A little less than two centuries earlier, Beethoven had said: "Other men make rules. I break them." While Ilaiyaraaja does not claim to be Beethoven, in their thinking they are certainly kindered spirits.

The album was released a decade ago. That should explain the statistics.

Madhan,
Why don't you try giving the e-mail ids of the orchestras in the DF? We may also try mailing them.. do you think it is a good idea ?
- From: Shankar (@ webgate0.mot.com) on: Mon Mar 29 23:05:24 EST 1999
MS,
definitely. If more guys mail them ,it will definitely make them consider Raja. But while mailing them we shud make sure that we avoid superlative terms like "the best ever India has produced" etc.

Madhan,
Well at last a reply from my end. Again my apologies for the long gaps between e-mails ! Firstly, I shall update you with the information I have on the recordings by the RPO which you requested. In fact part of the delay has been due,
in waiting to receive info' from other people. I think I now have a definitive account of the current situation which is as follows:
I firstly made contact with several big Music outlets in London but they all came up negative and said that to their knowledge there is no such
recording. This information was also confirmed by several music publishing houses.I then contacted the RPO main office in London and have been speaking directly with the Concert and Recordings Director of the RPO London. Her name is Liz Forbes and she was very familiar with Mr Illayaraaja's involvement with the RPO and the current situation with all recorded works. She said that to date, only the first Symphony had been recorded and as yet had not been released. When I explained that I had information to the contary, (from yourself) she was still adamant that no recordings had yet been released. To reaffirm the situation she said she would speak to the actual record producer and come back to me. Eventually she did. His name is Mike Townam and he confirmed that he was the actual producer of the recording of the first Symphony and he is in direct contact with Mr Illayaraaja and that for various reasons, this first symphony has still not been released. To date this is the only recording
they have made and there has definitely been no recording yet made of the second symphony or any other works of Mr Illayaraaja. To date there
are still no plans to actually release the recordings.
I feel that this is the best information we can obtain. If you have any other questions on this
topic which you wish me to check out please e-mail me.
I still think a lot about you all. Please keep in contact Madhan (despite my long delays in
replying; I shall try to improve this !!). And again if there is anything I can do at this end don't hesitate to ask.
Hope all the above makes sense. Will finish for now, and look forward to your reply,
Regards
Tom

Madhan, Exxcellent effort. But, looks like we are receiving the same responses uniformly and consistently, nothing new and informative. Is there any connection between Mike Townam and Mike Townsend and any other mikes? If then, we should Mike Townsend?

It seems really wierd..THe best person to contact obviously is IR... We are round the world thro e-mail...to get relevant info...I must admit that I am frustrated by his silence..especially after seeing the efforts of Madhan, I feel IR cares two hoots for his fans...
Sorry - just an outburst..
(this does not in any way stop my effort for tracing symphony's roots / appeciating Madhan's sustained effort.. :-)
