All actions are time bound. Your son will look at stuff you did today and can pass judgements morrow.
I am not justifying what Brahmins did but one can't look at it thru today's eyes.

Rajasaranam,
Some Historical data i collected outta curiosity.
Upanayanam was definetly restricted to brahmins but upanayanam is the tradition of an agni hotri accepted as a brahmin and the king is bound to protect the brahmin.
The king was dependent on Agni hotris for the art of producing fire which others didnt know during historic times, Agni hotris or the so called Brahmins then used fire for all the needs like cooking in palaces etc.
Since fire was an object of worship, Agni hotris or brahmins were considered sacred and next to god.
Thus upanayanam was the acceptance of mutual benifits rather than anything quoted in vedas.
If you ponder why Vaishays weren't allowed entry into the temple then have a look in the delhi national museum, Vaishya tribes had a tradition of multiple sexual intercourse even with women, hence they were barred. History says this could have come into practise because of high infant mortality rates in their tribes. This shouldnt be followed these days, i dont know how many temples in Tamil nadu have restrictions still in use.
A thing about Roasted beef and animal meat - Aryan based tribes who hailed themselves as Brahmins were economically deprived so they used their fire igniting techniques to cook beaf, and meat in kings palaces in central India, yes a sect of this brahmins did eat beaf but that was a result of economic stress cos Yagyas weren't performed by the kings in central India and this particular sect was forced to do only cooking in the palaces.
Agni hotris who broke away from this sect of Aryans or brahmins ( who skinned animals) were called Jains, the evidence for this is found in Gwalior.
This is a yo-yo graph of socio economic fluctuations that led to so many things and it is not brahminism of epic times or as quoted in Bagvat geetha.
Brahminism and the sham in it are entirely different.
MNT,
i dont believe in caste system or sham practices in Brahminism, i just wanted to say i am from that community (referencial purposes) and we aren't practising endogamy. Just to make a point to Rajasaranams allegations, that every one arent the chips of old block these days, this would be more appropriate in this context rather than calling myself a good human being.
I got to take the example of my family to say we dont follow eudogamy but i dont want to get personal here.
JP.

I think what Krishnasamy said was right. This Virumaandi has led to caste wars.
I'm outta here.

I dont know why brahminism is being discussed here. But let me add to the chaos.
The entire Indian society derives pleasure by making fun of Brahmins. If Thevars feels they are hurt if there is a scene depicting them in a bad taste, then what about brahmins?
Who is this bloody veermani, periyar and all? Why they need to make fun of brahmins?
I am not being caste oriented. But brahmins have been excellent in their behaviour as they have tolerated all their abuse and worked for the benefit of the society.
It is a pity that people like Kamal, Balachandra, Hindu N.Ram, all these brahmin idiots depict brahmins in poor taste thinking only if they do they will be called intellectual.
IT is high time kamal drops these things and stops making fun of sacred thread and all in interviews. if he does not wear it, then let him not propogate it and justify it. no one wants to know why he does not wear sacred thread.
And though I like kamal as an actor, I think he deserved all the trouble given by Krishnaswamy for trying to make fun of his own community. in no other community, caste it iwll be tolerated.

Theerpu: Non brahmins support anti brahminism because they derive benifits because of this , easy education, easy jobs because of reservations. Brahmins oppose this because they are affected with this. All social reforms dialogues etc are vetti pechu. One man who cuts across any caste line is the great ILLAYARAJA.

Brahmins have lot of problems but that does not mean they can give a free ride to others for fun.
All brahmin bashers only are afraid that brahmins will overtake them.
Kamal however great you want to become, u wont achieve as you have to wash the sin of bashing ur own caste and community

Sathya your assault on Hindu's N.Ram is not just unjust but utterly laughable! Dont just rate him for what he did/didnt do for the community, didnt you notice the grace with which Hindu tackled the recent attack by JJ? Which publishing body would have shown such restraint in the face of such political opposition?
Aryans were basically worshippers of nature who introduced worship of Indra, Varuna, Agni, Vayu after their invasion of India.
Of course, Buddhism/Jainism were reformatory practices that tried to correct undesirable elements in the religious system.(it's a long time since i learnt history so dont jump on me if anything's imprecise!:))
Anyways, guys, dont just look at history or tradition, there are hell lot of ancient practices which are obnoxious to say the least and need to be jettisoned without a second glance. As such Hinduism was an evolutionary system and inherent contradictions were bound to occur. As far as pitting one community against another(s), basically one can get enough ammunition for either side so forget raking up the issues of the past

Yeah right about Brahmins!! to all of you.
Brahmin is nothing but Brahmathai arinthavan.. for arinjufying brahmam (or the Self, or Ekam), it needs a lot of patience, relentless pursuit of doing such a thing. In old times i guess, everybody was separated by work they did, nevertheless there were lot of havoc caused by Brahmins in society, Just doing elanam is not a just way.

guys,
which century we are living in? Believe me, Caste clash has stopped with our previous generation. Look at our current generation now. Do we even have time to think about all that? Dont we have got better things to do? It's only our politicians still hang on to it just to get their votes. Let's just ignore them and move on with our lives. We dont need them. Now we should be free from it... Okay? Please stop talking about this sensible subject and hurt each other's feelings. Idha pathi niraya paer generation after generation niraya pesiaachu. Dont let this continue in our generation too.. Let's just discuss the movie.
