You know what? Brahmins are very soft and every one has fun in making fun of them and denying them basic rights as well.
Who is veeramani or periyar or whomsoever to tell, what religion is? And what everyone has to follow. It is highly an individual thing. Like I follow what I see in my family and what I feel like doing.
What was the need for this veeramani and so many DK people to cut the sacred thread of so many brahmins.
And in most movies, brahmins are the one that is targetted.
In current education system brahmins are the one who are most affected.
But still these blood drinking suckers of periyar gang want to torture the brahmins more. But they can never pluck even a single hair( Translate in tamil for full effect) :-))
Oru 1/4 adicha effect irukku....

jacky,
#Exactly, neither i said it is practised by one community, even Dalits have subsections where they oppress the lower castes among themselves. But in this pyramidal societal structure the topmost position is ehld by a brahmin and hence this philosphy of oppressing otehrs came to be known as Brahminism in Indian context.
#You shouldnot try to find out facts as a hobby but u should hav a fervor towards finding out facts for the welfare of the society where we live. The allegation that Brahminism comes by birth have roots in Rigveda -Purusha shuktam and Manusmirithi, where it is been clearly stated that Brahminism is christened by birth. another astonishing finding youw ill coem across is that the some scriptures say a brahmin as 'Dwija'-Twice born, first from mothers womb and next by the realization of God. but manusmirithi doesnt allow 'Upanayanam' to others except brahmins by birth. if this double standard had not been adopted then everyone in this country would aspire to be a brahmin.
nothing is lost let us stop upanayanam alltogether and give it to them who realizes God else give it to everyone. ask 'sankarachari' to do it like what Ramanujam and Bharathiar did and you will know the answers for the present condition of the society.
#If Exogamy is the need of the day, why shouldnt I spread this doctrine and how come this is going to create hatred.

Ferrari,
#Yes Yes i agree that Brahmins r very soft hearted and they r being denied basic rights such as not to wear slippers, not to gather water frm public well, not to wear shirt, not to enter in to temples ETc.,
# If you r going to follow what you see in your family and do what u feel like doing then probably You wont get to know the essence of what religion is, in this birth.
#Veeramani is none less than brahmins and you can accuse him in all possible ways u want to:-) and BTW wat was the need to kill 8000 'Samana' saints in Chozha kingdom by the brahmins.
# Movies in a nutshell is a entertainment media where people can live out their fantasies. Probably the mass people want to make fun of brahmins thats why its being done in the movies. The best way out is all those who get affected by this should come out frm their caste and announce that they r not brahmins anymore and they will not prejudice others in the name of caste.
#Education system is another big topic an i too am against the current Education system for various other reasons. but the reason u r against is nothing but a partial remedy to undo the injustice that was done for the past 3000+ years.
#Well the blood drinking suckers of Periyaar gang have plucked more hairs than u can ever imagine of in the past 75 years. It is better u shave ur head and save the rest of u r hair.
#'Somabanam''and 'Roasted beef' are what recommended by the Vedas for Brahmins. Giv it a shot friend, ull really enjoy it more than a 1/4.

sorry to butt in Rajasaranam
I am a brahmin and i am neither wearing my punal nor we practise endogamy.
The examples you said about Bharathi and Ramanujam were true, infact Ramanujars guru Thirukatchi nambikal was not a brahmin.
Ramanujam spread the mantra by saying "lokashemam mahamyajam" he did it cos he didn't care for his life rather he wanted everyone to hear the mantra his guru told him this has nothing to do with endogamy.
Nowhere in veda it is writtern Brahminism is by birth, it is bram - aham - niyam, aham means pure heart and niyam means following rituals to god in correct manner.
Anybody can become a brahmin.
Few examples.
Vishwamitra - was a king.
Shatriya who became a brahmin.
Thirumangai alwar - a theif from a lower caste became an Alwar.
Kannapa nayanar - regarded as greatest of all nayanars is a hunter.
Valmiki who wrote ramayana was a third rate dacoit and a hunter, who later became a brahmin.
You can be against sham of derived Brahminism followed by so called Gurus but not brahminism, there lies the line which you must draw.

JP,
iam relieved atleast that iam able to see a good human being in you, thats what is the need of the society now. Anbe Sivam :-)
yes iam totally against the sham of derived brahminism. ur explanation bram-aham-niyam is new to me. but definetely in purusha shuktham of Rigveda it is clearly written, about the birth of each category of the society Brahman-head, shaktriya- shoulder, vaishya- thighs and shudra-feet. we can easily come to a conclusion that at the time of rebirth [as in case of dwija] anybody can become a brahman. but manusmirithi [ which is largely followed in India] doesnot allow this.
while accepting the examples u have given there r some more questions u will find interesting
#why did Rama [a hero hailed by the same valmiki- a third rate dacoit and a hunter, who later became a brahmin and who happened to write ramayana] kill shampuka for listening/learning the Vedas?
#why was 'nandanaar' burnt alive by the brahmins?
if there r better words than brahminism to describe these acts let me know.
and lastly if u r not wearing a poonool and not practising endogamy why do u still call urself a brahmin. u can call urself a simple good human being. i dont call myself by the caste which was forced upon me and dont participate in castiest sangams. i hav put forward this msg clearly to my parents that i will practise only endogamy and dont want a caste tag attached to my nxt generation.
definetely this post is not to butt you.

W.r.t Ferrari's post
---And in most movies, brahmins are the one that is targetted....And in most movies, brahmins are the one that is targetted. --------
I assume the basic argument here is that soft targets become whipping boys - a gutless and despicable tactic used by our film-makers to compensate their lack of ideas.
Atleast 40% movies(gramathu movies excepting) typically have a Muslim or a Christian or an Anglo-Indian name(Hindi movies) for the villain!
Dont we know how many tamils are oppressed for years in Malaysia and Sri Lanka?
All this just coz these are groups whose rights are cunningly diluted day by day.
I dont see much purpose in hair-splitting the ancient books - Hinduism is an assimilatory and evolving system and as such has several contradictions are bound to occur, it has to be interpreted according to time contexts and its obsolete concepts ignored

What is happening to the brahimns is just a backlash, which is happening a bit late. I was born in Brahmin family and I've heard my dad talking about all the social cruelty done by his grand parents and great grand parents (or typically the whole set of "agraharam" people) in the villages.
Infact i used to live in Mylapore (in 70s and 80s)
and I've seen the treatment done by grand mother to our servant maids.
I do agree the fact that brahmins are easy targets and that is as of now (probably in the last 20+ years).
What their ancestors did is now coming back to them.

JP, doesn't this mean that you're a 'Brahmin by Birth'?
You have contradicted the point you were going to make, in the first sentence of your post.
